FlyLady
OK- this may sound strange and I promise I'm not affiliated with this site in any way, so I'm not advertising for them, but have any of you heard of Flylady.net? I actually saw it on the Alpha Chi Omega board months ago, so I checked it out and I LOVE IT!
FlyLady has a great system for cleaning your house/apt, organizing finances, planning menus, etc. It's great for women (or men) who work outside the house or for stay at home moms. She sends out email reminders for what zone we're cleaning this week & special missions in each room of the house, etc. It's hard to describe but she's really made a difference in my life & how I view housework (it's not a chore- it's "blessing my family"). Last month she emphasized cleaning out ur closets and "flinging" what we really didn't need (and then donating it to charity). This month she's focusing on ways to reduce debt- just $15 at a time! Anyway, if any of you are fellow Flybabies, I'd love to know so we can FLY together! L&L, WLFEO (WeLiveForEachOther) |
Crashing your forum!
I'm a Flybaby, and I love it. Even though I fall off the wagon occasionally, it has made such a difference in my whole life, not just the housekeeping aspects. I'm very grateful that Flylady gives so much of herself and her time to help us out. |
Having been in my house for a total of about 4 hours since January, I think I need a cleaning crew (that or a wrecking crew!) before I got myself on that sort of schedule!
But it does sound good in theory!! |
I love FlyLady!! I have vowed to start following her systems and get my house/life organized. I'm super organized at work with clients, but at home, it's a whole different story.

Ok ladies.... I just joined FLY lady.
I think it will help me! I've been getting very bogged down with absolutely nothing recently... constantly feeling blah and accomplishing very little. Thanks for sharing the web site. |
Yeah! A fellow Flybaby! :D I'm so excited!
|
I am going to check it out right now. It sounds like something I need. And who better to do it with, than the love and support of my sisters. :) Flybabies here I come!
|
alright, so i read it. It makes sense. But if you only clean one zone a week, at what point will the whole house be cleaned. I don't know about you, but I have a man that can't put crap away for anything. If I clean the living room one week and don't return to it for 3 weeks, I'll be worse off than I am now. Thoughts?
|
That's my problem too. I adore my husband but I feel like I'm always having to go behind him and pick up. I guess it's good training for when I have children ...
|
I shined my kitchen sink today. And made my bed in the morning.
Small baby steps. Sherra- I think the point is that once you get the zone cleaned up in the first place, by doing little bits at a time, then it is easier to keep it clean in the future. And by starting routines, you can train both yourself and your families (i.e. husbands) to stay more organized. At least that's how I understand it so far. I must admit my husband eyed me a little funny when I put the dish strainer under the sink. He litterally asked me if I was ok. We don't have a dish washer and I usually let my dishes pile up. Not today. They are all washed, dried and put away. And my sink is shiny. End of day 1. Good night. |
Yeah, adpi*nurse! Do you like your shiny sink? What helps me the most is keeping my shoes on all day. At first I couldn't stand it, but now I can't function without them.
skerbow, you can still declutter & pick up in your house (in babysteps) but the zone work is more detailed cleaning- like baseboards, detail dusting, etc. For instance- zone 2: the kitchen- that week you work on straightening a drawer or cabinet, wiping off fan/vent-a-hood filters, clean under sink/throw away old rags. That's more detailed than just picking up the junk that collects on the counters. I am totally not clean & organized by nature, but seriously when I make an effort to be, my husband follows along also. One of the best parts for me has been the help with menu planning- it's saved me money by having something planned & not eating out nearly as much, and it's saved me lots of headaches trying to plan a meal at 5:30pm and realizing I have nothing thawed. |
Okay, I started to read the website. I suppose FlyLady makes some sort of sense...
But I'm not cancelling my Molly Maids just yet! |
 I joined 2 days ago, and am overwhelmed with the number of emails that are from her in my inbox  I'm not so sure I am a good flybaby :p
|
Yeah, that happens- especially at first when she sends the welcome letters. But now I just look at the titles of the email & delete them especially the ones that say "Reminder" like to do laundry, clean car boogie, hot spot fire prevention, etc. Even if I don't have time to do it right then, it gets it in my mind at least. But I know what you mean- it can be overwelming at first! Hang in there, flybaby! Maybe you could adapt some of her stuff for your job as property manager????
|
WLFEO - I was def. thinking the same thing (about the property manager thing)
Today is my day 3... so I haven't gone to the site yet.. im taking baby steps :) Am I supposed to go to the site to understand what all the other ones mean? Or are the reminders the new things to do for the day? |
You might want to go to the site just to check out everything. The reminders she sends out every day. I think I don't understand your question..... (I think my cold has plugged my brain with snot- gross)
|
WLFEO, I figured it out .. thanks :) I am def. going to try to incorporate this with our house.. hopefully it will work :)
|
Did anyone do their Clean Car Boogie this afternoon? This is the 1st time I've ever actually done it, and I found 2 things I've been looking for for weeks! Yippeee!
:D |
you are cracking me up!!! WFLEO you are hilarious!!
|
I've been a very bad Fly baby recently. It's just so hard to continue when I work 12 hour shifts (currently at night!), which usually turn into 13 or so hours. I guess I can do the routines and reminders on my days off.
I need some encouragement! |
Girl, just do what you can and don't worry about the rest! Even if you only do one thing a week, be proud of that! Remember, Babysteps! And as you go along you'll learn how to adapt to fit your exhausting schedule. My routines are different from FlyLady's but they were a good place to start- then I had to see what didn't work for me & come up with a new game plan. Also I think there is a section on the web site that has emails from members who work outside the home who give tips on how to adapt the routines. Whatever you do, don't feel guilty! You are a good little FlyBaby! :) :) :) :)

One of the things I am learning to do for myself, especially in the area of home maker, is praise my self for the little things. Any accomplishment is an accomplishment and should not be thought little of. The more you praise yourself for the little things, the more you will do them and the more they will turn into the big things we all want to see happen. :)
Lets have some little self appreciation here!!! |
