What's everyone's social security number?

With threads on first names and middle names, its only a matter of time before someone starts a last name thread.

Until that happens, we might as well start collecting social security numbers.

Please post yours below.

The university I went to used students' social security numbers as their student numbers, so we had to put it on EVERYthing, even test papers! Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad idea?

The school I go to does this. We don't have to put them on test papers, but we need to write them down to pay with Marist Money (sorta like campus cash) and to get credit for clubs and stuff. Trust me, you aren't the only one who thinks it's a bad idea.

the school i went to did this. my junior year they switched and started assigning random numbers to us. it was so confusing to try to remember a new number, but during the transition period we could use either. but when it comes down to it, it's so much smarter to use another number.

The state finally started changing your drivers license number from your SSN to a random alphanumeric ID.

(And I don't even think that's my right DLN)

ETA: was it Mr. Burns' SSN that was 4 or am I thinking of something else?

Yep, my school did that too, though we didn't have to write it on test papers. The only way to get an ID number that wasn't your SSN, was not to have an SSN. They've since switched to random numbers.

I know some states put your SSN on your driver's license (though you can request a non-SSN number). That's pretty scary - if someone picks your pocket, even if you don't carry your Social Security card, they have your SSN and you can kiss your identity goodbye.

Anybody notice that the back of your SS card says it can't be used for identification? Or something like that.

The State of Virginia used to have your SSN as your DL # until recently.

GADL Expiration 9-4-05

My school also had us put our SS# on everything. Really, if you think about it, anybody can get just about any info on you, so it's kind of a lost cause to try to hide out.

Since the day I got my license I have had a random number.. for these reasons.. my dad works for the state and told me to do this before I had even really heard about identity theft problems.. then I went to school and we had the same thing with your ssn as your id number.. this year VA made it a law or something not to have ID numbers as SSN for schools..

For us canadians, maybe we should start our own Social Insurance Number thread.

LOL! I have to agree with Russ. Too much info given out around here.

I work with SSNs all day. A guy walks in with a 1 at the begining. I thought he was trying to pull a fast one!:o

Does anyone-everyone shred their documents?

Where do you live? I was born in NY and mine starts with a 1. Most of the people in my immediate fam from there start with 1 as well.

The first three digits of your SSN depend on where you were living when you or your parents applied for your SSN. New York goes from 050-134 (thank you BetaRose!)

justamom 03-10-2004 08:15 PM

I got my number in Kansas, but all the ones I've seen started with a 4. He is from NY and recently moved to La.

I am now enlightened!
