Is anybody else tired of Marilyn Monroe???!!!

I mean, don't get me wrong, her childhood may NOT have been the best & she died a sad, lonely, & unnatural death...but, dag...she was living FOUL (I mean, she REALLY played herself at JFK's birthday party).

I don't care about Ms. Monroe one why or another. I say if you tired of her, change the channel, this applies to Elvis, John Wayne, or whoever else "THEY" choose to glorify that month.
But I will say this, I'm not sure what she did at Kennedy's party because I wasn't there, nor do I know anyone who was there, and I'm not a big fan of the Enquire. But she was a grown woman, who had the right to do what she wanted as long as she didn't hurt anyone. If she did something to hurt herslf, well that comes along with the lifestyle you choose to live. She wasn't very talented, she played on her looks, which is what I see a lot of actress/singers doing these days.

There IS taped footage of the "Happy Birthday" song she sang to the THEN president JFK.

Even though we were not there, they (the media) HAVE IT ON TAPE!

She sang this ultra sexy version of "Happy Birthday" to JFK @ his b'day party. I haven't seen it, but I'd be verrrry surprised if his wife wasn't there.

I don't particularily care for this aspect of Ms. Monroe either.

I read something on either Lycos.com or Excite.com saying that had she lived, she would have been either in her late 60's or 70 years old. I would like to see a computer generated image of what late stars would have looked had they lived.

True soror!! You know,why do we have to wait for "them" to honor our own??? They're going to honor theirs and make sure that they are immortal. We should do the same. I say, instead of some of those "Arabesque" (sp?) movies that we see on BET, there should be more documentaries on great African Americans.

OK, I have seen clippings of that over the years. As I said, she had no talent, and she worked with what she had, which was her looks.

I always liked MM, even when I was a child (I have no idea why, had to be because I thought she was pretty).

Thank goodness, I don't have cable so I don't have to bothered with the super dead stars repeats! How annoying!

Anyway, MM was actually a size 7-8. The cut of dress sizes were actually smaller in her day. So in her day a size 12-14 is equal to a size 6-8 today.

I read a biograpy of Dorothy Dandridge and she stated that she and Marilyn Monroe studied together in some venue and Dorothy said Marilyn took her work very, very seriously and was disappointed that she wasn't allowed to do more dramatic roles with a fuller range, not just a "dumb blonde".
I always thought she couldn't act, but I think she may have been type cast and not allowed to pursue something more dramatic, kind of like Butterfly McQueen or other Black actresses back them and now.
BET is a bad joke.

The Happy Birthday Mr. President dress (that was white and super tight) -Today's size 8. Don't get me wrong, there were times when she was bigger, her weight went up and down like a yo-yo. Also, in comparison to today's tiny actors and actresses MM looks like a whale!(Even though she wasn't.)

she may have been living "foul" but it was only because she was lost...the entertainment industry can be very brutal...they take an "innocent" country girl and make her into a sex bomb and with no direction she is just supposed to be the epitome of "rightness"? don't think so...i think she probably wanted to be taken seriously as a human being...not as an actress...sometimes people forget that celebrities are still human...and hurt just the same as you...only they have to do it publicly...she added betterment to MY life...a black woman...just as did dorothy, billy, and phyllis...in seeing her misfortune...the path she took...i can avoid her pitfalls...and see in me the warning signs that have the potential to lead me down that same very sad and tragic path...people glamorize with no thought to the sad reality of her situation...they say she was a slut instead of she was searching for something she thought could be found in having multiple sex partners...she was a drunk and a druggy instead of she was trying to dull the pains of her reality...it is all very sad and tragic...her being white does not negate that fact... http://www.plauder-smilies.de/person/hippy.gif

Well why was it when they had an auction of her belongings, her dresses ranged from size 7 to size 14? Marilyn had some chunky moments and if you're saying that a size 12 is equivalent to today's size 8, than her size 7 would be the same as today's size 3, hmmm--I don't think so!!! Most of her clothes were tailored to fit her anyway. Even in her teenage years, she didn't look like a size 3...too much T & A!!! And I LOVE Marilyn!!! I have just about every book written about her, and I own every movie she starred in. But on the size issue, I'm gonna have to agree with my girl "Exquizit"!!!
