ADPi Tats

I am thinking about getting some violets tattoed on my foot, (don't freak I am an active alumane and this isn't my first tat) I was just wondering if anybody else has/wants an adpi tattoo and what would be/is?

ASUADPi 03-07-2004 10:07 AM

I have always wanted to get the diamond w/the Pi symbol (inside) tatooed on my ankle. A bunch of my chapter sisters did this. But I don't have the guts to sit down and get it done. I'm not big on pain.

ADPiAkron 03-07-2004 01:37 PM

I hate tatoos! They are so permanent!! I would consider getting a henna ADPi tattoo...it will wash off in a few weeks!! haha

TN-TX ADPi 03-07-2004 04:17 PM

I had a chapter sister who had a violet tattooed on the top of her foot. It was really cute. I have a violet on my lower stomach-- the coolest thing about that? I had it done my Senior year of high school, before I had ever heard about ADPi. Who wants to tell me that some things aren't meant to happen? :D

Get back to us after you've had a baby, and are now sporting a bouquet of violets!!

texas*princess 03-07-2004 07:47 PM

I am a *big* crybaby, and a big scaredy cat... so the chances of me getting a tattoo are slim to none, but if I ever did get the guts to do it, I would probably get a diamond with a P in it and I would probably put it in a place that wouldn't be readily visible.

adpiucf 03-07-2004 08:31 PM

I couldn't get a tattoo.

polarpi 03-08-2004 12:03 AM

First off, I *hate* needles, so I could never sit down and get a tattoo.

But if I did....I always liked the idea of having like a violet *anklet* tattoo...but that's just way too much work!

I know a few of my chapter sisters got ADPi tattoos done (adpi*nurse, help me out here...I can't remember Cwik and RuthE's tattoos!) but I couldn't tell you what they were at this moment

TN-TX ADPi 03-08-2004 12:10 AM

Honeychile,
I wondered about the possibility of it stretching beyond recongnition, but my doctor assured me if I ever had children, it is low enough on my abdomen it wouldn't stretch. And if it does, oh well- that's the beauty of where it is- noone will see it but me and husband. But it is funny to think about!
And to you others, I am the BIGGEST baby when it comes to needles. But it didn't hurt at all and it helped me overcome my fear. However, for those of you thinking about ankles- that would hurt like Hades because of the bone.

skerbow 03-08-2004 01:53 AM

I have a pretty wild story about a bid night and tatooing Violets on your toes...pm me for the details. It is a LONG story. But, I don't have one!!! :D

I have a Japanese Lucky Cat on my (inner) ankel and it really diddn't hurt that bad. the worst one was the one on the small of my back that one I almost diddn't make it through.

adpi*violet 03-08-2004 06:33 AM

I have two tattoos also. One on my right lower back and one on my left inner ankle. The one on my back hurt WAY worse then my ankle one.
The one on my back is kinda sorda a symbol for ADPi, although it has no symbols of ADPi in it. It's a celtic, "tribal" line thing that I designed myself. At the center is the infinity symbol which I chose for many reasons... one of them being that the number Pi goes on and on forever, the digits too many to count, just as infinity symbolizes something too large to count. Also, ADPi lasts your life time (which to one person is forever) so to that one individual ADPi will last for their infinity. Strange logic when I try to tell others about it, but it works for me.
Like PolarPi said, I know two sisters in my chapter got the same tattoo of a violet on their foot. It was something they were planning to do for a long time and while I think they went and got them on or near bid day one year, it had nothing to do with that celebration.

Thanks for reminding me! I think they got it done around (or on) the bid day of the formal recruitment that I joined (since that was Cwik's senior year)...I just remember them telling the story of going to get them done! :)

LiLAdpi 03-08-2004 10:53 PM

When I was active about 8 sisters went and got a single violet tattoo on the top of their foot. They are really cute.......but I was too nervous to have something inked on me forever. I know Adpi is forever so that's good enough for me!!

Tattoo Addicts Anonymous

Hi my name is Debra and i'm a Tattoo Addict...
Tattoos are addicting I have three total and if I get the violets it will be four. I was a little scared at first but i'm glad I did it. In fact, I got my second tattoo three days after my first tattoo and I haven't looked back, maybe when i'm ninety and I have inky blobs all over my body i'll care but I won't exactly be showing off my body at that point anyway.

WLFEO 03-09-2004 10:05 AM

All I have to say is that people should wait until after initiation! I know an Alpha who got an ADPi tattoo and then for one reason or another was not initiated. Now wouldn't that stink?

Tell me about it!! I've heard of a former sister who got the crest tatooed on her leg, and when she deactivated, there was a huge stink over who was going to pay for the debrasion!

adpishan 03-09-2004 09:52 PM

A couple of sister from my chapter have paw prints tatooed on their foot. They are very cute and they get lots of compliments on them.

honeychile 03-09-2004 10:32 PM

I have to admit, I really hate the idea of tatoos. There are so few things that I liked at the age of 18 that I like now, it's scary!

Paws are cute, though! Who can resist paws?

I did always say that I would agree to permanent makeup, though, and possibly Soundex on my left hand - if I didn't have that Old Testament bugaboo about tatooing myself!

Adelphean1851 03-10-2004 01:10 AM

I was a little older when I got my first tattoos (around 20) and i'd thought about it for along time before that and I was well warned about getting sorority tattoos before I became alum, but now that I know that I am indeed, in for life I think i'd really like one.

Honeychile,
just out of curiosity which verse in the bible warns against tattoos? I can honestly say i've never heard of that, except in the Mormon Church. Maybe if i'd paid better attention in Catechism i'd know huh?

I never heard of it myself until my brother started seminary - and I taught Sunday School for 12 years! It's Leviticus 19:28.

Tggrsluv2bnce 03-10-2004 11:11 AM

One of my sisters and I got matching tattoos when we were freshmen. We got the chinese symbol for friend on the tops of our right feet. Ten years ago, we loved them. We couldn't wait to show everyone. Now, we both despise having them. She is a nurse so she is able to keep it covered at work, but I have to wear suits and heels every single day to Court and it's really hard to find heels now that cover it. So, I have to use stage makeup and cover it if my shoes don't.

Anyway, I just thought I would share my experience in case any of you were thinking about getting a tattoo on your foot.

adpialumcsuc 03-10-2004 09:15 PM

I have 3 also and I was definitely addicted to getting them until I had to have my 3rd one redone because of fading. I have one way low on my abdomen, one on my inner ankle and one just below my right shoulder blade. They are all completely hide able and only those that I want to see them will. The ones on my ankle and abdomen didn't hurt at all but the one on my back killed. He had to stop periodically and tell me to breathe because I started to hold me breath. It hurt really bad and that was it....I was done.
I think tats are very cute and I would have loved to get a violet but I decided that I couldn't have anymore.

Adelphean1851 03-11-2004 01:55 AM

what is it about the back, the one on my lower back killed too, and it was my first and also biggest tattoo, i'm amazed I got another one. the one down the center of my spine wasn't bad though and you'd think it would have been the worst, it was really small though.
I think if I get violets it will be my last tattoo 4 is a nice even number, I kind of feel like since I have one on my left ankel I need something on the right to balance it out. Very Feng Shui ;-)

FirstAndFinest 03-11-2004 12:58 PM

WOW! Can't believe how many tat-ladies we've got!!

A Delta from another chapter visited my chapter house when I was a Delta, and she had the Pi in a Diamond tat that Brianna describes. She had it on her inner foot, below the ankle bone, on the meaty part of the heel. I so wanted that, too!! Some of my sisters went to get that tat, for whatever reason I wasn't with them, but they returned with that symbol on their bikini-lines. Apparently, the State of RI has a law prohibiting tattooing below the ankle. I never got a tat, and now, I don't think I ever will!

WLFEO 03-11-2004 01:38 PM

Very interesting----- I wonder why they can't tattoo below the ankle?????

It is some health code - Something about the skin on the foot being too thin.

honeychile 03-11-2004 09:40 PM

As an (ahem) older alumna, I was at a meeting just prior to our chapter's blood drive. One of the sisters was invited to tell everyone who could & couldn't give blood, due to the tatoo parlors they had used or the piercings they had. The other (older) alumna turned to me and said, "I don't remember this speech, do you?!"

I considered this a defining moment in being an advisor!

Adelphean 03-12-2004 12:51 AM

This is a great thread!!!

I have two lions' paws on my right foot (small ones)

I have a little diamond with my initials and my Big Diamonds' initials in it on my left foot

I also have a big diamond on my lower back with two stars in the Diamond and OBIC between the stars...

In two weeks I'm getting another little diamond with my younger Diamonds' initals in it...

Edited b/c I couldn't remember what tattoos I have and what ones I don't... (I'm tired and I just got back form Spring Break, don't hold it against me.) :)

Adelphean1851 03-12-2004 05:38 AM

for you ladies with foot tats how are they holding up? I went to a very repuatable tattoo parlor today (if such a place can be considered repuatable) and the artists there basically refused to tattoo violets on my foot :( , they said that tattoos there just don't hold ink well and that i'd have to have it retouched alot if I diddn't want it to fade. so now i'm considering a Pi in diamond with violets worked into the design on my upper back, the artist is really talented so i think it'll be really neat, but still a far cry from small violets on my metatarsals.

Adelphean1851 03-12-2004 05:50 AM

Oh yeah I just realized that I haven't really described the tats I do have. So for anyone whos interested tat #1 is a japanese style tat symbolizing the yin and yang principals in the form of a delicate, feminine flower with an strong, masculine dragon curved around it in a figure eight. The center of the flower is a yin yang with rays of light coming out of it. this is on my lower back.
tat #2 is a japanese lucky cat like you see in sushi bars it is on my left inner ankel.
tat #3 is three norse runes bound together in a straight line like this

well.. sorta and it means sucess through adversity, communication, and joy. this one is in the center of my back about where my bra clasp would be.

Tggrsluv2bnce 03-12-2004 09:58 AM

The tattoo on top of my foot still looks like it did 10 years ago. When we went to get our tattoos, we actually wanted to get something on our big toe, and the guy refused to do it because he said it wouldn't hold up. He actually suggested that we get it on our feet instead. It hurts soooooooo bad though because of all of the little bones.

diamonddoll214 03-13-2004 08:32 PM

I went today to look at tattoos...i wanted to get violets on my top of my foot as well!

ADPiZXalum 03-13-2004 09:15 PM

I want the diamond and pi on my ankle. :)

Adelphean 03-14-2004 04:12 AM

Question

Have any of you ever heard of an unofficial (or maybe even official) rule of not being allowed to have ADPi letters, or the crest tattooed on your body? Someone told me this once, and I'm just wondering if it is true. I was/am thinking a/b getting the crest tattooed on the middle of my back.

What are ya'lls opinions?

adpiucf 03-14-2004 06:24 AM

In response to the question about crest tattoos--

Disclaimer: I'm not telling anyone what to do; rather I am stating my own opinions.

I don't remember seeing any rule forbidding a member from tattooing, but I personally advise against it. I just think there are more effective ways to represent ADPi than by tattooing the letters or the crest on your body.

I'm not condemning anyone who has a tattoo, or wants one. But I'd like to advise our members that as sorority women, we want to project an image of class and propiety. I don't feel our letters, crest, etc., belong permanently inked on our bodies, in keeping with this ladylike stature.

Again, that's my personal opinion, and not intended to start a war on tattooing.

ADPiZXalum 03-14-2004 12:04 PM

So I guess the big lion I got tatooed on my right shoulder was a little tacky and perhaps I should not have gotten ADP on my forehead? ;)

Well, you're practically guaranteeing that the woman who interviews you for THE job of your dreams got cut by ADPi with the one on your forehead! ;)

btw - another thing to keep in mind!

Precisely LOL :)

Adelphean1851 03-14-2004 11:40 PM

I'v never been interested in the crest or letters, I like violets because they are one of our symbols but discreet, you could either be say "hey i'm an Adpi!" or "Hey I think violets are pretty nifty" which ever you prefer.
