Having a fun time!

Wish I were doing/watching that instead of having to go to work.
Go AGD!:D

ISUKappa 03-10-2004 10:39 AM

So our results aren't super stellar, but I'm glad to see my girls are up there in a few things! Now I can't wait for Greek Olympics. Those were my favorites! :)

ETA: I totally kicked ass one year in darts. Went in never having played before and won the championship! I wore my GW Tourney champ t-shirt with pride! :D

and it's nice to see some different houses in the top spots than were normally there when I was in school!

We'd cry if we were paired with the Delts here. But I don't have to worry about it since they are on social probation and can't participate in anything until spring of next year.

We could care less what they think of us.... a couple brothers hazed their new members pretty badly last semester, made them jump off of a bridge and everyone lost all respect for them after that.

AOII_LB93 03-12-2004 03:01 PM

Regardless, it's still rude to say things like that. How would you like it if the tables were turned?

Glad to see my sisters making a showing =)

shadokat 03-12-2004 03:21 PM

Wow, your greek week has a lot of fun stuff!! Ours wasn't nearly as cool :) Do you do Greek Sing though? That's always the best!! Congrats on your successes, and best of luck through the end.

I dated one of them and it didn't end very pleasantly.... on our campus, they all have the well deserved reputation of being jerks. They haven't said very nice things about us from the beginning.

OleMissGlitter 03-12-2004 04:15 PM

GO AOP

ISUKappa 03-12-2004 04:37 PM

Hee hee. Tell us how you really feel OleMissGlitter! ;)

We don't have Greek Sing, we do lip sync instead.

There's a show called Varieties that's a long-time ISU tradition (78 years this year) where students create their own 20-minute musicals. They come up with a script, lyrics (but use familiar songs), costumes, sets, props, etc. . . It's a 6-month process and it's mostly GLOs that participate (but it is open to all students). That's the main music-related event for our GLOs during the year.

I was in it one year and on VCC (Varieties Central Committee) the next. It was a BLAST!

/hijack

Then take the high road and don't return their animosity. It makes you look petty and bitter when you post negative things about another house online.

Ditto what AOII_LB said. Shit talking about a bad chapter on your campus and comparing them to one that you obviously know nothing about makes you look just as bad as the Delt who screwed you over.

I like this thread. Please don't effing ruin it. Thanks.

ISUKappa 03-13-2004 11:54 AM

There probably won't be any updates as this next week is spring break at Iowa State. The "real" week of Greek Week is the last week in March. There's an all-Greek BBQ, Academic night, Lip Sync, Greek Olympics, Polar Bear Plunge and finally Vespers--the Greek awards program.

Queequek is up for Greek Man of the Year!

*sigh* I miss all these activities.

Good luck to everyone in Greek Week...

GO AOII!

SigKapQueen 03-19-2004 03:50 PM

BUMP
ummmm.....so who won? and did you get greek man of the year?

ISUKappa 03-19-2004 04:42 PM

This week (March 15-19) was their Spring Break. Next week (March 22-26) is the actual week of Greek Week with Vespers (awards ceremony for the year) on Sunday, March 28. Most of the fun stuff happens on Saturday, March 27--Greek Olympics, polar bear plunge and the final results.

*sigh* I miss Greek Week!

bluefish81 03-19-2004 06:04 PM

I miss it too. I have a Greek Alumni Alliance meeting the Saturday of the Olympics and apparently there also going to have food for us alums (and the college kids) by the DZ triangle, so I think I might stick around for that and to watch the Olympics for a little bit. That was always such a fun day. Jumping in the lake was always freezing cold, I don't miss that part, or the lake sludge. At least it was for a good cause!

queequek 03-22-2004 04:01 AM

OK, I'm back from spring break! ;)

Monday will be the BBQ, all pairings need to show up with their letters in the central campus for free BBQ. Will post the updates for it.

SigKapQueen, the Wo/Man of the year will be announced at the VESPERS ceremony, at the end of Greek Week next week.

I forgot, the theme of this year is, "Many Chapters, One Book: the Greek Week 2004 Epics"

queequek 03-22-2004 04:04 AM

We try this new event this year for our Greek Week:
"The Greek Story"

(from the rulebook)
All pairings must participate in the creation of a Greek story. The pairing story board must be displayed in front of the designated chapter house on Monday, March 22nd, by 7:00 am. The story will be collaborated via email. Chapters will be given prompts by Greek Week Central and must create their own continuation of the story. Prompts will start to be given on February 16th and be forwarded daily, including the weekends, until February 29th. This is to be in either a phrase or sentence form, being no longer than 3 sentences. If a prompt is not turned in within 24 hours after being contacted, spirit points will be deducted from the pairings total and a prompt will be given to the pairing by Greek Week Central. A 4’by 8’ piece of plywood provided by the chapters, split into two 4’ by 4’ pieces and hinged in the center is to be used. Construction of the story board can begin on Sunday, February 29th (pairing’s letters should be included on the story board). Judging will be based on creativity of the story board and wording used. Any wording deemed inappropriate, i.e. references to alcohol or insinuating material will be grounds for disqualification. The top five pairings will receive points for their participation.

Ya gotta love the "official uniforms" when you're on a central committee. I had one when I was on VCC and everytime I'd come out of my room with it on, my sisters would ALWAYS be like, "Hmmm...got VCC tonight Bekah?" I willed it to the girl who gave me the most crap about the green Gap sweater.
Good luck on "Man of the Year"
The only name on the list I recognize is Leigh's because I believe she's the current CPC President, correct?

I'm curious about the Greek Story thing, sounds like an interesting idea. Do the chapters still decorate for spirit as well?

queequek 03-25-2004 12:38 AM

Lip Sync was tonight, and the top six pairings made the first cut (in no particular order):

Alpha Delta Pi, Farmhouse, Alpha Kappa Lambda
Delta Delta Delta, Sigma Pi, Acacia
Kappa Kappa Gamma, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Kappa Sigma
Alpha Gamma Delta, Lambda Chi Alpha, Theta Delta Chi
Delta Zeta, Delta Tau Delta, Delta Upsilon
Pi Beta Phi, Phi Delta Theta, Beta Theta Pi

ISUKappa 03-25-2004 11:59 AM

Yay! GO Kappa! :D :p

So, since things have probably been changed a bit, what events are at the Greek Olympics on Saturday? And is Greek Getaway still held then?

queequek 03-25-2004 02:16 PM

Greek Gateaway is held this weekend, and due to Cy basketball game tonight, the second cut of Lip Sync is cancelled. All six pairings will perform in front of potential members in CY Stephens (!!!) on Friday, and the Olympics are still on Saturday, with VESPERS ceremony on Sunday. Weather-wise, should be another perfect day for Olympics on Saturday, with possibility of high of upper 60s and lower 70s, so yay for plungers! :D

Not much changes in Olympics, we tried to bring back Milking Cows competition, which used to be a long Greek Olympics tradition that died down in 1999, but due to safety hazard, we can't do that. Darn it! We should do Cow Tipping instead!
