DC3 (Destiny's Child Part II)

I did my SEARCH....I counsulted with the MIC (Moderator In Charge) about beginning a new thread about Destiny's Child. The other one is getting quite long.

Anyway, I purchased the new CD yesterday, and I must say I should have gotten a BUCKET OF CHICKEN, FRIES & ALL THE HOT SAUCE THAT THEY COULD GIVE ME for my $12.50 that I spent on that CD. I am truly Disappointed. I can't believe that Beyonce was on MTV BRAGGING about writing/producing such silly songs with those "shallow" lyrics. The only song worth listening to is "Emotion" the Bee Gee's REMAKE and in that song "SOMEBODY" is really "TRYING" to sound like "MARIAH" What's REALLY going on? And when did it become customery to sing about "freakin'" and "Praising the Lord" on the same CD??
**My people, I am NOT HATING, really I'm not...I just expected a little MORE from a Platinum Selling-Grammy Winning Group**

(I'm putting my "Earth Wind & Fire's Greatest Hit's" back in my CD player ASAP)

Ivy leaf_12 05-02-2001 07:32 PM

I totally agree! I borrowed the CD yesterday from my friend and I was really disappointed!! The last CD was good and I think that was their peak. Question: Why was Beyonce whispering to the members of the group during the time they were being interviewed?

I like it. I think all the tracks are nice except for "Story of Beauty". Besides that, I think it's pretty tight. Beyoncé's writing is pretty good - especially "Dangerously in Love" - I feel that song! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

tickledpink 05-03-2001 02:18 PM

Ok, I tried to look thru the 1000 posts on the If you hated... thread. I have a question. I saw a commercial for an MTV special that's airing next Tuesday called "Carmen" starring the original "Lem" from the movie "Soul Food". Is Beyonce playing Carmen? I think it's supposed to be a "hipopera" (or something to that effect).

exquizit 05-03-2001 08:26 PM

Ok so, I'm checking out this special of MTV's (I missed it due to work and school) and I'm really understanding why everyone says Beyonce's country behind needed a perm!! Kelly's REd hair leaves me sick! Do you think that since her previous haircut got so much attention and popularity the Knowles-n-nem made her change it?

AKA2D '91 05-03-2001 09:02 PM

LOL...LIKE I said in that other thread, I get mine EVERY 6 weeks, like clockwork....

Where was I yesterday? Gettin' that perm... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

CocoaCaramel 05-04-2001 12:09 AM

I didn't like the CD. It had a few alright songs. But it sounds more alternative than R&B. Some of the songs are kind of corny. I wouldn't pay my money for it.

Monique 05-04-2001 11:19 AM

Is it me or does anyone notice how Kelly's hair is *red* all of a sudden. Remember how Farrah said that the momma said someone has to have red hair in the group. And has anyone heard the song Nasty Girl. How can they talk about anyone with the sh*t they wear. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif And talk about looking stank. What was that. You can tell that a young person wrote the lyris to their cd. Some of the words to some of those songs are GHETTOFABIOULOS.. To me, Michelle can really sing but it seems like on the cd she is holding herself back. Why? My mom says that because she can't take away from the leading singer. Notice when she was singing with her group on MTV, she was blowing. And last but not least, All Kelly needed was some pom-poms and she would have made the perfect cheerleader for Beyonce! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif

ps on a good note i love the song Dangerously in Love..its a beautiful ballad!!but the rest of that cd; What Were They Thinking http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif

Miss. Mocha 05-04-2001 11:25 AM

I don't know. I heard Michelle (Tenetra) talk on the Doug Banks show yesterday morning and she was GHETTO.

I'm not a big DC child, but at least Beyonce and Kelly use standard english, my goodness.

On a lighter note, that Michelle (Tenetra) can sing her butt off. I wish Beyonce's straining butt would share the spot-light sometimes.

Kelly is all right, though I do think that she rides Beyonce's bra strap a little too tightly, hell, she actually swings from it at times, but I guess she knows which side her bread is buttered on.

Soulful Soror 05-04-2001 04:49 PM

Yeah, I saw them on MTV yesterday. It said "live", but I think it was the re-run from last weekend. Anyway, when I flipped to the channel, Michelle was in the middle of talkin' about something (I missed the first part of her rant), but rather than just ending the sentence...she just kept saying "what can I say?"...and, making this dumb face at the camera...UGH...I don't know about them...Now, Beyonce's mom (eventhough she is very pretty) is coming out with HER clothing line...first Puffy, d@mn J-Lo Ho-wear, Rock-a-wear, Wu-Wear, Phat Farm, freakin' No Limit...? It's just a bit much...I don't even think the Wu-Wear store on Shao Lin (Staten Island) is open anymore. Jennifer Lopez had the nerve to say if she wasn't in entertainment she'd be designin'...now, she KNOW she lyin'...I bet she didn't take not nah art, fashion merchandising, fashion designing, etc. class in school...if she WENT to school for that matter...I'm gettin' tired of all of their @sses. ***folding my arms across my chest w/ my lips poked out***

DC was on BET 106th & Park yesterday. They looked tore up. When they first came out years ago they looked much classier. Take a look at the "No,No,No" video. Their hair looked fairly nice, their clothes were on the sexy/provacative side, but still fairly classy. Now they are just starting to look trashy. On BET yesterday, they were all half-dressed. Quite frankly, they looked COLD. At one point, Beyonce looked like she was shivering. I'm thinking "get that girl a coat"! Kelly was sitting on the end of the couch - bare legs from the bottom of the bootie on down, bare midriff and all. But why were they all wearing COMBAT BOOTS? I'm sorry, but that's just not fashionable. Beyonce's weave looking nothing short of a horse's mane - stringy and rough.

If I ever had a chance to interview that whole entourage, I would like to ask the parents (Matthew and Tina) a couple of questions. As a parent myself, I just don't understand how they have quided them down this path. My understanding is that it's been 100% all about the business since they were very young. Starts to make you wonder about parents. Did they do it for the kids -to guide them along in the pursuit of the dream? Or, did they do it to make money for themselves. I'm wondering how everything gets divided up financially? (Matthew, Tina, Beyonce, Kelly, Michelle) If they're all living together in the same house, how is the house paid for? Since Kelly and Michelle aren't part of the family......?

I smell something stinky going on...

Don't forget about Solange (sp?), Beyonce's sister. According to the interview with Farrah Franklin in Sister2Sister magazine, a cut of each of DC's checks are going to her. For what? Beats me. Farrah said she was supposed to help out as far as business, but she said she never did anything. Also, Kelly, Michelle, and Beyonce live in a house together which is in Tina and Matthew's name. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif Lord forbid if Michelle ever falls out w/ Beyonce or Kelly like Farrah did. Somebody would get the boot. Mom and Pop Knowles know exactly what they're doing.

She's a dancer for the group. On the MTV special she was the one with the long red braids. Beyonce hugged her at the end of the show.

That's correct. I think she's been a back up dancer for a little over a year now.

What the hell is that "happy face" $h*t. I hate that song. I like the emotions remake, but that's due to the fact that I liked it before they remade it. I find it ironic that in the "survivor" song they say "thought I wouldn't sell without you sold 9 million"....Um ur rah, helllllooooo, those two girls are still singing on that CD. How stupid was that comment. So with 9 million or 12 million sold ---they still get a part of that check and with less deductions, now that they are out of the group. They also have 2 grammies.

Now I liked the survivor song however, I hate survivor part II, the Brat could have done better. I was hoping that this album would be good, but it's not. Do I think it will sell? Of course it will. In fact it will definitely go platinum. Maybe even double platinum. That is purely on the strength of it being a DC album. Their name will carry them for a minute. Matthew wasn't no fool, puttin' that album out now while they are in their zenith.
Plainly stated "Survivor" is no "Writing on the Wall". Michelle will eventually leave the group, the chile does not look happy ----she always looks toward Beyonce before answering questions. What's that about?

I'm not a hating, just stating!!!

OK...they were just on Saturday Night Live and AGAIN Beyonce's pants were TOO small and her booty crack was showing! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif Lord, that is so nasty. They weren't even zipped up all the way. How can her parent's let her dance around like that?

Honestly..I think Beyonce is a very pretty girl but she needs to loose some booty or realize that she needs a larger size pant.

I just saw the performance too. I liked the "Emotions" song.
My question is this: Does Beyonce let Michelle sing more than 2 lines of any song on their CD?? I think she's got a nice voice. I agree w/ what someone stated earlier about how it does sound like she's holding back. But I hope that she gets to sing a whole verse on their CD b/c otherwise that's just plain wrong. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif
I think Michelle should leave the group and let the duo be just that...a DUO! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Girl, No, you know Kelli would just ECHO Beyonce so Beyonce would finally get to be a solo act.

KELLI needs to (in my best SCHOOL DAZE IMPERSONATION) WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE UUUUUUUUUUUUUUP!!!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
That and stop swinging from Beyonce's bra strap.

I was thinking the same thing. I thought they were much older and the first cd was very good. Their second album was also good. I liked every song on it. However, their third one is slacking. I sit and wonder "what happened". Just because you write your own stuff does not mean it's good-with the exception of Babyface (his new song is tight). Someone should have made light of this fact and called in a producer. It seems as if they have reversed things. I thought that as one gets older and matures, so should their music. This album was more appropriate for their ages years ago. But then again, if they came out with this new one as their first, they might not even be where they are today.

I think she has a plan. She is getting PAID right now. She's probably saving her money, making some contacts then she's going to bounce and re-join United Harmony and release a phat gospel album. I hope....

I was watching the Real World this weekend (the one from New Orleans) and they showed a scene where Melissa kissed Jamie and she said the kiss was "Bootylicious"! I thought it was so funny because I thought Beyonce said she made up that word!

Snoop Dog said "Bootylicious" way back I think on the song "Snoop Doggy Dog". Remember these lyrics: 'and the rhymes you were kickin' were quite bootylicious'. So I knew she definitely didn't make it up.

Why is allmost everyone on here having a problem with Kelli giving Beyonce her props, or showing how proud of her she is. Now, come on ladies, if our sister, cousin, friend, etc. is accomplishing alot of dreams she had we'd be proud as well and let everyone know. I know for a fact my best friend recently got a job making close to 70,000 (straight out of grad school) and I "bragged" on her and her accomplishments. Why? Because I am proud of her. I feel some on you are a little hard on Kelli for doing such.

Since you quoted me, I am going to respond. Quite simply, there is a way to be proud of someone and there is a way to fall over yourself to lift someone else up. Kelli might have just as much talent as Beyonce yet we might never know since Kelli falls over herself to pump up Beyonce. I think Kelli is far more attractive than Beyonce yet Kelli in a way degrades herself by constantly being Beyonce's cheerleader.

There is nothing wrong with celebrating your friend's fortune, good news, etc. Yet Kelli is a contributor to the success of DC and does not acknowledge her hard work and efforts.

And is it beneath Beyonce to give props to Kelli or Michelle? I have yet to witness that happening. They may not be equal members in the group, but nevertheless together they are Destiny's Child. I don't see anything wrong with Kelli giving Beyonce compliments, but I find it excessive and almost to the point of obsessive.

If you watch any of their recent interviews, Kelli has gone way beyond compliments. She answers every question with Beyonce as the answer. There is no talk of the contribution to the group by her or Michelle. The world already has the impression they are Beyonce's child and her constantly talking about Beyonces accomplishments and not the groups add to that image.

blueberi1920 05-07-2001 04:51 PM

I heard the new album. It is trash. The only song that I like is the Emotions remake.

The thing about Kelli being Beyonce's personal cheerleader and president of the Beyonce fan club is true, but I think everyone should notice that Michelle is on the same tip. When they asked Michelle on BET 106 and Park, what was it like for her since it was her first time recording, she proceeded to answer that it was great because Beyonce produced. Beyonce is great, she brought out the best in me and Kelli. Beyonce, Beyonce, Beyonce...
And Kelli was just there nodding her head. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Beyonce needs to stop trying to fit into Kelandria's and Tenetra's clothing and go a size bigger and cover up the abs. She is not fat, she's just not as skinny as her bandmates, i mean when she moves her stomach does too, that's not cute http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif

I have a feeling that Michelle will be leaving the group before we know it. She just looks so unhappy. At the MTV show she saw how much she wasn't a part of the group, she wasn't there for the history and she proabably feels left out. She's not stupid though, I'm sure she'll make moves after she leaves.

PS: Has anyone else seen Farrah in the RL video?? I'm glad she's doing her thing.

AKA2D '91 05-07-2001 10:49 PM

What role does the media play in this? Can't they ask Kelli and Michelle questions that relate to THEM? Can't they feature THEM in exclusive interviews, contracts, fashion shoots, etc.

THEY (the media) know like WE know, that it's BEYONCE'S WORLD and Kelli and Michelle are just squirrels tryin' to get a nut! LOL

Ladies,

It is soooo funny how everyone is so envious of these ladies. I know it's your own personal opinion but it is a trip. So much that they previously had a 100+ thread of one member and now a 30+ thread on the group. Really y'all need to stop hatin' on these very talented young BLACK women. And how many of overweight women on here (whether it is 15 pounds or 50 pounds) have responded to "Beyonces' weight problem". Come on now, she isn't the least overweight. TRUE, she should not have had on the pants she had on on MTV but still. Somebody, somewhere likes their music because of their current status in the business. While some of you are putting down their album and trying to figure out how you are going to pay this bill and that bill Destiny's Child is living large and selling millions of albums.

MY OPINION, JUST LIKE YOURS. Please don't bite my head off (at once).

(for the record, YES, I am a DC fan 100% - I know I know, I should have responded to a negative thread about them right but this topic isn't named like the other one this one is just about the group)

I never said chica was overweight...she's not. She DOES need to get a larger pant size. Her crack was on display for goodness sake! That's nasty. I'm not a hater...I like DC. Those girls can sing but the way the "other" memebers are being treated...that's wrong.

petiteqt 05-08-2001 02:16 PM

Hello. Just to add on to the question about the group's education. I know they received tutoring, but did Beyonce and Kelly even earn their H.S. diplomas? I am asking because I notice when most teen stars graduate, like Monica for instance who was tutored by the same people or at the same school as Beyonce and Kelly, their is some mention of it somewhere in the media. There was a story on Monica's graduation in Jet Magazine. Just curious

pebbles_6 05-08-2001 03:19 PM

PrettyLady,

I think the posts about DC are not a means of hatin', but instead summarizing that since these are YOUNG, BLACK, TALENTED, FEMALES, then they should carry themselves as such. IMO, because I want Beyonce to cover up her @ss and speak with some sense, doesn't mean I'm hatin, nor does it, by far mean I envy her. Anyone can walk around half dressed and spew ignorant verse and get paid for it, just look at Lil' Kim (sorry, I digress). Anyhoo, if those women were in our respective Sororities, we'd be proud, but I still think we would suggest that they wear more appropriate clothing. Not too long ago, my Soror Aretha Franklin showed out on VH-1. And although I have mad love for her talent, her wardrobe was out of left field. I can understand you like the group, but they are in the spotlight, and as such, subject THEMSELVES to criticism, constructive or not.

Just my .13 cents.

AKA2D '91 05-08-2001 05:31 PM

I think what ADDS to the criticism is the way their "business" dealings, if you will have been handled. The drama, etc. of the line-up changes. What really happened with the former members and all of the other MAYHEIM we have seen. So, yes, just like "we" talked about Michel Jackson and his people back in the day, Madonna, etc. Beyonce' and 'nem are the latest target. Who knows who will be next?

PrettyladyT,
I bet if it were an artist you didn't like, you'd be on the bandwagon of "hatin" "dissin" and everything else. If you can't take it, skip this thread.

Yes, you can have your say, but in this case, you're probably in the minority. So, what's the point?

ZChi4Life 05-08-2001 06:07 PM

Well I like DC. I think they all are talented singers. I have the first 2 CDs. I highly enjoyed both of them.

However, just like some others were saying, I think it's awful they way the conduct themselves in the public eye. I watch them in interviews just hoping that Kelly and Michelle (especially Michelle) will say SOMETHING! I just feel so bad for her! That's why I was wondering if she gets to sing a WHOLE verse on any of their songs on the new CD b/c she doesn't say a word hardly in interviews. It's like she was told not to or something. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif That's sad to me.

Then when you look at other, more cohesive groups, you will notice that ALL the members get a say when interviewed or what have you. I think at this point (and probably before...I just haven't noticed until now), the media focuses their attention on Beyonce. They ask her most of the questions. Now, when you see other groups being interviewed, they try to rotate amongst all the members. Or questions get asked in general and they all put their two cents in. I remember seeing a Backstreet Boy interview and I remember the reporter asking questions and they would all ask each other "hey, what do you think about that". I thought that was cool. They made sure everyone speaks in interviews. You NEVER see Beyonce saying "what do you guys think about that" or "do one of you guys wanna answer that". I've seen that done in a lot of other groups and it doesn't happen w/ DC (unless I missed something). It's sad, I tell ya. Just sad.
