States you wouldn't visit based on movies you have seen.
Obviously this is tongue and cheek . . . but . . .
Ok Minnesota, the movie Fargo has forever made you guys twisted and freaky . . . no way I would visit. The entire Midwest . . . I am not sure where Children of the Corn and Jeepers Creepers were actually supposed to be . . . so just to avoid being hacked up by little kids in the corn fields that have nothing else to do in your undeveloped part of the nation . . . the entire region has to be avoided. The movie Wrong Turn Where was that Virgina? W. Virginia? Kentucky? One of those sick inbred areas? Anyway . . . no inbred southerners that like to hack up poor campers for me . .. Damn whats with mountain people and the South? |
Watching the Disney version of Robin Hood makes me not want to visit New Jersey, because the Sherriff reminds me of James.
:D |

I don't want to visit the state where the movie Deliverence took place.
|
The remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre did not endear me to Texas, particularly. Boys Don't Cry was not particularly helpful in terms of marketing Nebraska in a positive light, either

ETA. Never mind, this is redundant, as someone else mentioned it before me |

So to make a long story short, Canada, through France, would be our bitch. But of course, they already are......so I guess that refutes my theory...... lol ya know I love ya Canucks....you're still #1 at being North of the United States. |

Re: States you wouldn't visit based on movies you have seen.
yeah - fargo is in north dakota (that's where i'm at right now)
but the movie was filmed in minnesota - plus only one scene takes place in fargo. no - we dont see very many woodchippers although we have an 8' tall statue of marge made out of wood chips at our historic fargo theatre. but yes, it is a flat, empty, wide open space. and yes we have way too much snow. but i guess that if i hadn't been from here, the movie would definately keep me away. |
I always made an assumption that Stephen King's "It" was filmed in New England area, as he is from NE. So yeah, when I visited the NE states several years ago, I kept thinking of clowns
I'm surprised that no one is opposed to New York City. You know, after all the 'incidents' happening in NYC: Godzilla, Deep Impact, Armageddon, Devil's Advocate, Friends episodes, etc etc ... LOL :o |

You're making all these cracks about Canada and none of the Canadians are coming out saying "hey that's not nice" (in of course our oh so polite manner). And do you know why we aren't saying anything? Because we've heard them all before. In fact we've made these cracks about ourselves way before you did.
Come on guys you can do better than that!:) But thanks for coming out anyway, eh! :D ETA: I don't want to ever go to New Jersey :D |

Yes, Stephen King's movies/books are all set in his homestate of Maine.
I try to avoid New Jersey whenever possible because that's where my in laws live. |

i still can't listen to deuling banjos. aaaaaaaaaaaah even just typing it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! |
I know I should know better, especially given the number of black people who live there everyday, but I have never been to and am petrified of the state Mississippi. I can't help it, and its for so many movies that I have seen that I can't remember them all, i.e. Mississippi Buring, A Time to Kill, etc.
AND I was born in Georgia!! so its not like I've never been to the South. I am also afraid of Texas, not because of any particular movie, but because of things I have always heard that have happend/go on there such as the huge number of executions, James Byrd being dragged, WACO incident, GWB (;) ), I could go on and on. But, I am going there for law school so I guess I'd better get over that!! Reading you all's "Why I love Texas" thread was a bit therapeutic for me, thanks. |
Wrong turn was set in southern West Virginia, Greenbrair County. Which is kind of funny b/c Greenbrair is one of the most luxurious resorts on the East coast that caters to the President and many foreign diplomats. Plus there is a of ski resorts around that area. Stupid movie.
The only place I really have no desire to go to is CA. None whatsoever. To many wacko's out there. |
Wherever the hell Deliverance was in. I never want to go there. EVER!
-Rudey --Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal |
Once again, back country of WV.
The movie and it's actors were filmed in Alabama though. |

'k people, Canada is not a state and I believe the title of this post is "states you wouldn't visit".....
I would have to vote for Jasper, Texas. |

Also, the filet mignon at the hotel's restaurant was outstanding. The best filet mignon that I've had. A few months later, I was talking with a friend of mine, who lives in New Jersey, and who has been exposed to many of the finer things in life. He told me that he just had the best filte mignon ever. I asked, "where?" He told me that we was in Ames for a wedding, and stayed at the Gateway Center, and had the steak in the hotel restaurant. It was like déjà vu all over again. So Ames might boring enough for the college kids to call it "Lames," but it is a nice little town with a great hotel that has great steak. |

Now if you really want a good steak, go to Rubes in Montour--about an hour east of Ames on 30. They hand select their cattle at the local meat auction and then butcher and process it themselves. It's an open-flame, grill-your-own kind of place, not very fancy, but the filet mignon literally melts in your mouth. And I grew up on a cattle farm so I know my beef! I loved Ames as a college student. Not too big, not too small. You could get anywhere in that town in 20 minutes or less. I think it also helped that the Kappa house was the closest one to campus and the closest one to the bars! ;) |
