Article from THE Frat-party in San Francisco - But WHERE?
Hi frat-guys!
I am a Danish journalist writing for a FHM-like magazine in Denmark. I am planning to do an article on an asskicking frathouse party in San Francisco. But I don't know where and whom are throwing the wildest parties? Where are the wildest parties? I want pictures of halfnaked girls dancing on the tables. I want parties, where people would give there right arm to get to it. I want parties where not everybody can just come in - but needs to be acknowledged I am staying in San Francisco and surroundings from March 9. until March 16. - so any party ideas in that timeframe are very welcome! Mail me with hints: hebsgaard@mail.djh.dk Cheers! Søren Hebsgaard, freelancejournalist Give it to me! |

LOL, I think we all want that fellow, if you find it, tell us and
we will all meet you there :) Quote:

Lol, and is San Francisco really the place for that???
Also, a lot of kids might be on spring break and not even there |
Obviously responding to him is only going to be bad news...no pun intended! Sorry man...we do not want anyone else trying to make the Greek System look bad!!
|
I heard about this really cool house. I think they were called Tri Lambda or something like that. Their house number is 1 900 468 7588.

Søren, Hva liker du å gjøre?
oh skree-veh brehv/FHM? Velkommen til USA. |
Just so everyone knows...there is not one official fraternity or sorority house in all of San Francisco City and County. Even "frat parties" there are so tame most people can't really find them or the cops break it up around 10:30 pm. So take that you crazy journalist guy.
|
Umm.. yeah frat parties in San Francisco ?? AlphaPhi bubbles and I should know are more like apartment parties with about 80 people at them.... (if it's a good one) if we want real "fraternity parties" we go crash the parties in Berkely... and the sorority girls in San Fran have class... and aren't very stereotypical...we don't get half naked and dance on tables....
|
I don't think you are going to find any wild frat parties that compare to the club scene downtown. Save your journalism career and go to 1015!
|
I don't think i even went to a party with 80 people in SF....hehe. Yea go Parkmerced parties!!
|
Once upon a time when Sig Ep had the house at SF State, they used to throw HUGE (120+) house parties twice a year--right after CPC Bid Day. Oh my gosh, those were fun! :)
Nowadays, the only parties that I would imagine going over 80 people would be Presents--and I doubt that counts. Either way, Glitter650 is right. I've never seen ANY of our girls get up and dance half-naked on a table, so I think that "thejournalist" is just plain old SOOL. :p |
parties
just wandering if 120 is just considered HUGE for san franciso or what. Because this past weekend we threw a huge party talking 600+ people and this is in a pretty small college town. Of course it was mardi gras and pretty fun and crazy. Luckily cops didn't shut us down till 1 am.

Unfortunately, we don't have many Greeks in San Francisco. 120 for us at San Francisco State was quite a lot at the time. Counting IFC, NPC, NPHC, multi-cultural and local organizations, I highly doubt there are more than 250 greeks on the entire campus (and I personally think that 250 is stretching it).

San Francisco isn't a college town. It's a large international city...so if you live downtown there really is no way (or need) to have a large house party because there isn't much residential space. Also there are all the world famous clubs and bars to go to. Now, if you live near SFSU, all there is is residential space, in which many families live who call the cops on any kind of activity. In a small college town (like Chico, where I go to school now) it is SUPER easy to throw 600+ parties because the people that live near the college are college students. College students generally don't call the police for noise complaints.
I think Presents would be the only qualifying "party" but in recent years it seems the only people who come to that any more is Pi Kappa Phi, Alpha Phi, AGD and Phi Sig... When was there a Sig Ep chapter at SFSU and where was their house? I thought there was a city ordinance or whatever that didn't allow sorority/fraternity housing. |

YEEAAAHHH PARK MERCED PARTIES let me tell you just too wild and crazy ! |
Sigma Phi Epsilon was on campus from 1981 to (I believe) 1997. My husband is an alumnus of that chapter. It was such a crying shame when they closed, as they were the largest chapter on campus. I know the alumni are hoping to reopen the chapter eventually.
The house was located on (I think, its been a while) Randolph Street. It was walking distance from State. I heard that some kind of religious order purchased the house and the house next door and somehow connected the two. |
Interesting...i wish so many chapters hadn't closed down at SFSU then maybe the greek system wouldn't suck so bad.
glitter650 - i have definatley been witness to things very close to topless table dancing at presents. And at formals...but it's definatley not the norm. |
Nevetheless AlphaPhiBubbles, I respectfully request and require an open invititation to all your sorority formals from now on.

The SF State greek experience may not be the *ideal* experience, but I'm thankful to be a member of that community. I'm a proud alumna of the SF State greek system, and I hope you are too! :) |

"SFSU greek system sucks">Could be worse there could be no greek system at all...e.g. University of Wisconsin Superior. "No official frat.house">If one would be alittle more social they would know Phi Kappa Tau has a frat.house. Active brothers pay for this house via. their frat.dues, part of the house dues go towards the active house and the future house. By ALL active brothers paying house dues via. frat.dues this would make the house a legit FRAT.HOUSE. :D

Ok - less can do it!
The UNPROFESSIONAL and IDIOTIC "journalist" is back
Thank you so much for the help - but I need a little more specific directions. You know, I don't demand halfnaked girls dancing on the table(though it would be nice) - just a good frat-party! With lots of nice girls of course! The magazine is for males 20-35 and my aim of the article is to get a closer look at this frat-house party-tradition, with some good pictures to it. So if I won't find a good frat-party IN San Francisco - where would it then be in the SURROUNDINGS? I am ready drive some way for it. It would be nice with phonenumbers or specific names of the houses. You can still mail me at hebsgaard@mail.djh.dk Søren Hebsgaard |

Yeah Phi Tau has a house... but it only houses what like 7 brothers or something and still it's in residential area... even though I must say parties don't get broken up there too oftern... NE WAY... Alpha Phi bubbles... I agree with my fellow Alum GreekLawgirl... I may not be able to brag about my beautiful house with 100 sisters standing in front of the circular drive (and I have openly admitted to being slightly jealous of those who have had the chance to experience that on the house pics thread etc...) HOWEVER... I have about 30+ homes where I can stay anytime... I know ALL of my sisters... and have hung out with them one on one... I know a *majority* of the A-phis and AGDs by name and I'm friends with a lot of them... I get to have my formal in a world class city with the best hotels... I can see the Golden Gate bridge when I drive home everyday... it may be a pain to rent a storage locker rather for our composites and supplies rather than hang them in our beautiful chapter room or office... and we may not have parties with 600 people at them every weekend... but... I truly believe that I have found sisterhood and life long friends, and that we still do good things for the community... even now that I've graduated... I find it hard to take a step back and not "act like a collegiate" if you didn't feel that at SFSU and have found it in Chico that's GREAT I'm glad that you did... but that doesn't mean that greek life at SFSU sucks if it is providing women an experience that they can get something out of . |
Ok everyone took that way comment too seriously and personally. Obviously i saw some value in the greek system at SFSU otherwise I wouldn't have joined it. And by "sucking" i didn't mean the school needed 18 chapters and 200+ members in each - i guess I meant that maybe with more groups more diversity would be created. There isn't a well established IFC, and I was disappointed with the way NPC was being run by the time I left.
Not to mention the fact that despite the small NATIONAL greek system at SFSU, we rarely interacted with the local and BGLO groups who were the majority on campus, and that made me very sad. FSC is a joke at SFSU as greeklaw, glitter and jess (ladyj) should know. If FSC actually came together then i think great things could happen to the greek system there and the school and surrounding communities would benefit greatly from it. I will always hold a very large and special place in my heart for the people I met and experiences I had at SFSU..i mean jeez those were my pledge sisters and a place i lived at for 2 years..........so everyone needs to relax and not take me so seriously, especially since no one ever takes me seriously :) :) :) |
Re: Ok - less can do it!
Hey. Mr. Journalist. Post your Magazine's web site so we can check it out :)
As for your question . . How far is University of the Pacific from San Franciso Guys? they used to have good fraternity parties, maybe we could direct him there. Honestly I am sure that a fraternity would gladly THROW a party knowing that a writer of a well-known(it is well-known isn'it?) magazine wanted to attend. If I were writing an article specifically about fraternity parties i would target a school with a big greek system, find out the contact information of their president, and juat make arrangements to attend. Is your magazine willing to foot part of the bill? If I were confined geographically for some reason and the potential fraternity party was just an extra, I would find out all the local college within two hours of my location that had greek life and contact their presidents to make arrangements. A simple google search . . . Colleges near San Francisco and then going to the College web site should get you some needed information. I apologize for some of the responders, you just got unlucky and received answers from people that think fun is like church socials, Chucky Cheese, and plastic slides at McDonalds. There are plenty pof large parties out there and someone always seems to want to take their clothes off . . . even if its the person you would least like to see naked and will horrifying after images for the rest of your lives. yeah, and the chapters should get in trouble for it.

Google the schools in the area and try to get links to the individual fraternity chapters at each school. Most will provide an email address or contact info for an officer of the fraternity. That is probably your best bet. Explain to the officer you want to show Europeans an American fraternity party. Be sure you include your credentials.
They may have stipulations like you can't show their actual letters but are allowed to take as many pictures as possible. I think that would serve your purposes. I mean, it sounds like you're just looking to photo a fraternity party, not necessarily a XYZ chapter party. I'm with James. People are always willing to get crazy and naked. Especially if there is a photographer around. ETA: He wants to film a FRATERNITY party, not a SORORITY event. Kitso KS 361 |

honestly though, we used to have to go to programs put on jointly by the risk management people from the four hq's in the town where my school was. by knowing those guys, if they ever heard of one of their chapters doing something like that, i can guarantee there would be some seirous consequences. |
Why? You could actually throw a party like that within the law.

"7 brothers">what SFSU Phi Tau house are you talking about? 8 bro's live in the house, however 10 bro's can live there if all rooms were doubled. Also, one could easily fit 3 guys to a room. *Not mad at what you typed at all just wanted to get the numbers right. Nicolle I got love for you (I think your the Nicolle I know).
-Heath F&AM, PHA, Cedars #65 FKT, Epsilon Theta sfsu |
Aww Heath I didn't know that was you...I better be the Nicolle your thinking of cuz I'm the coolest Alpha Phi Nicolle that graced SFSU....lol just kidding.
I know what the Phi Tau house looks like...been there many times and yea that may be a "frat house" but you guys can't put your letters up legally or anything I think. And it's still in a residential area, althought i can't remember the last time i was there and the cops came. But it has been a while :) I miss my SFSU frat boys! (aka fraternity MEN hehe). |
