Rush Songs
I was wondering what rush songs other chapters use. ours are not nearly catchy enough (HIGH LOW every where you go... and rah rah for kappa kappa gamma are what we use now). i was wondering if anyone could write out some of their fav rush songs. thanks!

I quite like "Oh Pat"...it's fun!
|
Oh Pat is always a favorite.
We always did: * The Owl, the key, the blue the blue * Rah Rah * Go Kappa (ba doom ba doom) * Dream awhile * Kappa chant (K- (K) KKG (KKG) Kappa (Kappa)) * And when we tell you |
We use a song called Mmm, My Sister. It's sung really softly, and is really pretty for Prefs.
Mmmm, my sister Mmmm, my sister Couldn't get along without you now Got along with out ya before I met ya but I sure couldn't do it now Came to college just to find A group of girls that were my kind Now I know I've found the best Kappa Gamma's above the rest It's really pretty if you have sisters that can sing the slightly deeper harmony part. We also use a song called "How'd You Like to be a KKG," which is very fun and show tune-y. How'd you like to be a KKG How'd you like to wear the golden key Do the things that all the Kappas do Wear the blue and blue Loyal and True To Kappa Gamma she's the best of all Friendships fade but never seem to fall Come and join the best Fraternity Kappa Kappa Gamma with me |
This year for recruitment, we used the following songs:
- Rah Rah for Kappa Kappa Gamma - K-a-p-p-a K-a-p-p-a G-a-m-m-a, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Hey! - Oh Pat - parody from Bon Jovi's "It's My Life" (let me know if you would like the words) - Got Along - Up on Monmouth College - Dream Awhile Also, our 3rd round was a '70s themed skit, where we took a lot of '70s songs and changed words to Kappa-fy them! (ABC by the Jackson 5 into "KKG, easy as you and me, as simple as golden key, fleur-de-lis, KKG, sister you and me girl.... and a bunch of others!) |
I've never heard "Up on Monmouth College." How do the lyrics go?
|
"Up on Monmouth College"
Up on Monmouth College, in 1870, half a dozen college girls as cute as they could be, thought they knew the meaning of the word fraternity, so they bound themselves together and called it KKG! Call her up, <hand to ear like a phone> Sigma Nu, get a date! <clap, clap> Hurry Up, <tap wrist, like tapping a watch> Sigma Chi, don't be late! <clap, clap> Tip your hat, <put hand up to imaginary hat on top of your head> KA, <tip your hat down> in that good old southern way, cause a Kappa takes her pick and she won't wait!<clap, clap> I hope this wasn't too confusing to follow with the motions... :D |

I really wish there was some way to convey the tune on here. That does sound like a really fun song.

It took a while to type it all out, but your PM should be there by now!

the tune... ahh!
for days (well at least since i have posted the lyrics), my real fam and my kappa big and her fam have been trying to figure out words that go with the tune that are not kappa-related. like a little kids song... and we can't remember or think of them for the life of us! anyone know? |
In my PM to sherbertlemons, I told her that I didn't know if the tune was familiar because it's from another song or if I was remembering the tune to this song! It sounds like some sort of drinking song.

what are the lyrics to "and when we tell you"? tune? |
The tune is to "They Didn't Believe Me." Here are the words:
And when we tell you how wonderful you are, You'll never believe it, you'll never believe it, That girls so fine could ever be United in fraternity And they all wear the little golden key. And when you wear one, and you're certainly going to wear one, The proudest girl in this wide world you'll be, You'll never believe it, You'll never believe it's true, That from this great wide world we've chosen you. |

We sing "If you ask us" and then segue into "And When We Tell You" Ahh... memories. If you ask us why we love you We will ask you if you know How the melodies of music Seem to blend together so There is something in the music In the life of KKG That tunes us all together In just one key (I'm doing that from memory, so I'm not sure if the words are exactly right) |
What are the words to "Go Kappa"?
Kim |
It's a two-part song meaning one group of people is always singing in the background while the second group sings the main verse.
[group 1 - by themsevles the first time, the second time group 2 joins in] ba doom ba doom Go Kappa ba doom ba doom Go Kappa ba doom ba doom Go Kappa boom boom boom boom KKG [group 2] Go Kappa and you'll go the right way Go Kappa and you're here to stay Go Kappa and you will see What a great bunch of girls live at KKG the 2nd group doesn't start their line until the first group gets to Go Kappa on each of their lines (so you always hear the ba doom ba dooms) and they end with KKG at the same time, in harmony. I don't think there's a name to the tune and it's kind of hard to explain without hearing it, but it's just a cute, neat little song. It's usually a "welcome" song during one of our recruitment rounds. |
In regard to the tune to "Up in Monmouth College," my son said the chorus kind of sounded like "If You're Happy and You Know It." Maybe that will help us figure out if the tune is a "real" song!
|
I thought of another one we did the other day:
Well I'm a Kappa Kappa Gamma Bet your life I am a Girl who's proud to wear the Golden Key So tell the Other houses What ya wanna be Be the best go KKG sung through twice then followed by K-A-PP-A take it twice and add a G-A-MM-A Kappa Kappa Gamma YAY! |

The camp I've attended/worked at since I was fifteen has an older song that is rarely sung called "The Ashgrove" - It's a really beautiful slow song, and we mostly stick to peppy fast songs about animals, but a few times each summer someone will sing "The Ashgrove" at a campfire... This past summer, one of my little sisters came to camp with me, and we're at opening campfire and two vocally gifted counselors are doing a wonderful rendition of "The Ashgrove" - and Tracy catches my eye from around the fire circle, and starts mouthing something. I can't figure out how she would know the words to this song, since it was her first summer at camp, and then I realize what she's doing... She's singing "On the Heart of Each Sister" - it's the same tune! I had been hearing both songs for a few years, and never realized that they had the same tune! It was so neat. Wonder which song came first... |

ETA: I just checked my songbook and you're right! The tune attributed is The Ash Grove. So that one must have come first! :) |
can i have the words to the bon jovi song it sounds really cute!!
|
We always sang "Kappa oh Kappa" immediately before "And when we tell you."
Kappa oh Kappa our hearts are with you The love of each sister will last our lives through A million tomorrows will always be Locked in our hearts by the bonds of the Golden Key there's at least one more verse, but I can't remember it. |
