How many of you.........
I'm curious you guys....How many of you are actually in the Career you went to school for?
I come in contact with people daily that are sucessful in things that weren't even close to what they got their degree in! |
I'm nowhere close to my major....received my degree in Political Science from Howard...I now manage e-business projects for an australian wine company...go figure...but heck, I get a lot of free wine.

Now, I'm teaching. At least out of all of it, I'm being paid for my Masters degree in Public Admin. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
My degree's in print journalism and 15 years later, I'm still in the career.

Greetings ALL,
I am currently working as a systems man! I graduated with a degree in Economics and Public Policy with a minor in African American Studies and what I work on as a career now I was doing on the side in college just for FUN! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif I do get to use my Economics know how in the field I am in but the other two degrees I find to be more effective in my Alpha Life. My degree is in Spanish and I have a minor in math. I work in telecommunications. Go figure. But I love it. Spanish is more of a hobby that comes in handy. I used it in Miami last week! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

Prayerfull is a Soror? |
Graduated in '87 with my BS in LEA.
I'm nowhere close to working in my major. I'm a Supervisor for CTA(Chicago Transit Authority). Pay is pretty good, but not a day goes pass that I don't wish that I was doing something else. So guess what? After 14 years I'm finally going back to get my Masters in Ed. I know it's a lot of teachers on the list, so is it as bad as my friends say? It'll be a drop in pay, but I want to go for it. |

Well yall. I figure you should do what's in your heart to do. I mean no matter how much money you earn or how great it sounds on your resume...You have to be happy where you're working otherwise you won't do it well.
I was originally a nursing major(major money at the time *or so I thought*)....Sistah gurl found out she faints at the sight of blood! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif So I switched to something I know I'm going to do better at. Nursing wasn't in my heart anyway people were trying the talk me into it. I decided to stop fooling myself ya know?! |
I was an Economics major in undergrad. I NEVER had any plans to actually use the Econ degree, however. I currently work as a staff development trainer and in my new job (5 more days!!) I will do training and employee relations.
|
I have my B.S. in Early Childhood Education. I graduated in 1994 and worked with a government Pre-K program for a year. I came back to my old summer job and worked the graveyard shift full time in effort to pursue my Masters, but I never got around to it. I'm still here as a marketing rep and make more than I was making as a teacher. I am now back in school pursuing a 2nd B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

My undergraduate degree was in Africana Studies with a minor in Psychology. At first I thought I wanted to teach or write but ended up going directly to law school after college. I am now an attorney with a State agency.
I was not as enamored with the practice of law as I once thought I would be and now am considering getting my MBA and have dreams of being an entrapeneur. Ya feel me? Sistas doing it for themselves... |
I was a Poli. Sci. major at Howard U... then went to Howard U Law School... right to the practice of law. In law school I hated criminal law and never wanted to practice in that field. Of course my first job - I was in the courtroom within 6 weeks of my first day. I'm doing Corporate Law now (YUCK) and missed Criminal Law so much that I'm taking a hugh pay cut to get back to the RUSH of the courtroom! So YUP! I'm using that HU Law degree.

Currently, I am working on my MS degree in industrial/organizational psychology. Afterwards I will immediately pursue my doctorate in clinical psychology. My current profession is working on Wall Street as an Admin. Assist. When I go back to school this fall, I will be a waitress. Ergo, I am no where near my targeted field of intrest, however, I will be there soon enough. Lots, and lots of luv!
