KillarneyRose 02-23-2004 08:40 PM

Well Done, PSU Greeks!!!

sigtau305 02-23-2004 08:40 PM

that's very cool. congrats to all who was involved in the marathon.

Amazing! Both the amount of money and the amount of time! (Our dance marathon is typically only 24 hours, which is crazy enough!)

What a fabulous job! Congratulations to everyone involved!

That's a huge amount of money! Amazing what people can do with hard work and a good cause.

What exactly did y'all do to raise this kind of money? I think the rest of us could learn a lot.

blueGBI 02-23-2004 09:27 PM

I was there!! I was on Rules and Regs and I was on duty for 17 hrs and I spent at least 5-10 more in the stands. Dance Marathon is soo very awesome and its worth seeing the happy faces of the kids and the parents. I was super tired today (I was there for the last 5 hours, were you Jennifer?) and I slept from 9 pm Sunday til 1:30 pm today but its so worth it. For more info, go to http://www.thon.org/

I can't wait til next year!

WE WILL WIN THIS CANCER FIGHT!
WE ARE PENN STATE, ALWAYS BELIEVING!!!"

WOW!

Now if the 4 th estate, (MEDIA) woudl really pick up on that and show that Greeks arent just a bunch of Asses and Snobby Bitches!

Of course, that is not news worthy out side of the Greek World!:(

PSUSigKap 02-23-2004 09:44 PM

i only got like 10 hours of sleep the whole weekend. my roommate was a dancer and so were many of my friends. i was on the floor and in the stands as much as possible. as for how we do it, we go canning 4 times a year, solicit from friends and family and corporate donations/sponsorships. we didn't raise much as last year but the four years i've been here we've raised a little more than 14 million dollars. THON is the largest student run philanthropy in the country. and its soooooooooooo much fun!!!!!

Actually, it did get decent news coverage. I didn't see the print edition, but it's the featured picture and story on the Post Gazette website: Link to article

Didn't ZBT start this marathon?

Are they still involved?

HollisterDXiChi 02-24-2004 11:59 AM

Thumbs up!

Yeah major Kudos

pirate00 02-24-2004 12:26 PM

Holy s#@!% :) That is amazing! This is the kind of news I love to hear.

LionTamer 02-24-2004 12:34 PM

Actually, the Penn State IFC started it as a way to re-build the image of fraternities; Tri-Delt and KDR started the concept of power fund-raising (raising $1,633 out of the $10,000 total that year).

Nice history here

Congratulations to all who participated - PSUSigKap and BlueGBI.

I was thinking about you guys this weekend - I heard Kool & the Gang's "Celebration", which was the theme song one of the years I was involved (which really dates me), and was so hoping that you guys would raise a lot of money. You do Penn State proud. I'm really disappointed at the amount of press this gets - I think $3.5 million deserves a little more network/CNN/MSNBC coverage, but that's the downside to being 3 1/2 hours from anywhere, I guess....

BTW, who topped the fund raising?

PSUSigKap 02-24-2004 01:36 PM

ATO and ZTA for the ninth year in a row. they had over $200,000.

LionTamer 02-24-2004 01:59 PM

Thanks for that - glad the girls at Zeta are doing so well (I lived on the Zeta floor my freshman year, and they were sweethearts)

Oh, and Hoosier - your ZBT boys may not have founded it, but they are still dancing, as you can read here here Also mentions Alpha Omicron Pi, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Delta Sigma Pi, Alpha Chi Sigma, and Alpha Kappa Psi.

FSU's Dance Marathon is 32 hours long, and I thought that was crazy! I never got the chance to dance, but it's an amazing weekend and I love it!!!

FSU raised $175,412.12 this year for Children's Miracle Network!
