Fraternities of the Southeastern Conference

There are twelve institutions representing the Southeastern Conference with a total of 214 chapters. (Edited since I can't add.)

Edit #2: I got these numbers (list) from each SEC school's web site. So if a chapter was not listed on the IFC/Greek pages (what have you) then I did not include on this list.

Edit #3: Adding colonies. Now at 221 total chapters.

TS, nice lot of work!

LXA went back to Ark just last year!:)

Ark. should have made the Big 8 The Big 9. Morons went to SEC!:(

Oh now, We have The Big 12!

Sigma Phi has a new colony at the University of Alabama

PhiPsiRuss 02-22-2004 02:10 AM

Phi Kappa Psi will be rechartering at Auburn before the end of this semester, so that puts us at 8 SEC campuses. The only SEC school where we have never chartered is Mississippi State.

Tex1899 02-22-2004 02:12 AM

Delta Sigma Phi recently chartered at UGA...they have 4 active chapters in the SEC:

Georgia
LSU
Auburn
Kentucky

Dormant chapters at:
Tennessee (Omicron Chapter)
Alabama (Beta Kappa)
Florida (Beta Zeta)
Arkansas (Gamma Beta)

At LSU, SAE is coming back and SN has been kicked off campus till 2006.

Fraternity chapters seem to fluctuate so much more than sorority chapters. Does anyone know why? I have noticed this over time at USC. Thanks for compiling all of that information!

TSteven 02-22-2004 11:50 AM

My understanding is that Triangle Fraternity is recolonizing at UK.

AUDeltaGam 02-23-2004 05:21 PM

Delta Tau Delta returned to Auburn Fall 2003, so count them in!

Kevin 02-23-2004 05:28 PM

Hadn't heard that they had closed the Sigma Nu chapter @ Vanderbilt. I know they were there 3 years ago. I heard they received some negative pub for something. Not sure what it was.

Bummer.

I think you mean Sigma Pi. :)

TSteven 02-23-2004 07:30 PM

After checking the GLO and the college's web site, I've added seven colonies to the list.

Note: Delta Tau Delta at Auburn is not listed on the Delt web site; Delta Sigma Phi at Georgia is not listed on the Georgia web site; and Triangle at Kentucky is not listed on the Kentucky web site.

You are correct.

The Sigma Phi Society was founded at Union College in Schenectady, New York, on March, 4, 1827. Sigma Phi is the second member of the Union Triad, thus making it the oldest social fraternity in continuous national existence.

However, according to the Alabama and Sigma Phi web sites, there isn't a Sigma Phi colony or chapter at Bama.

Now there is a Sigma Pi colony listed on the Sigma Pi web site and also noted in "The Crimson White", Bama's student newspaper.

Sigma Pi fraternity colonizes the Capstone
By Andrea Brunty
Staff Reporter
October 08, 2003

"The University's Sigma Pi fraternity colonized Sept. 26, joining more than 120 active chapters and colonies around the nation.

As a colony, the new fraternity is in the building and organizational stages. Officers say the fraternity will strive to form scholarship, leadership and intramural programs, as well as committee systems and community activities."
