Greek Movies
Just looking for some decent greek movies. I've seen the ones that everyone has watched, Animal House, Old School, Going Greek...but what are some other ones?
|
Legally Blonde and Revenge of the Nerds.
Also Old School and Sorority Boys |
Pumpkin with Christina Ricci.
|
School Daze with Laurence Fishborne and Spike Lee
|
Black Christmas, Sorority House Massacre 1,2,and 3 are very insightful movies about the dynamics of sisterhood on the modern day campus.
|
I saw a movie at Blockbuster called "Delta Delta Die" I read the back cover and apparently it's about a sorority that is killing people on campus... i did not rent it
|
Drumline has TBS and KKPsi, adn they are portrayed rather well!
|
There was one on Lifetime last week, and I'm going blank on the name. It starred Shannen Doherty.

There is another movie, H.O.T.S. It's a B movie and it is 25 years old. If you like a B movie with nudity, then this movie is for you. If you're lucky, you can find a copy.

I dont know if you heard of the movie "Going Greek"
Shermanator is in it and the chick from the Faculty (the demon mother)...not many famous celebs....oh yeah Simon Rex. The movie was filmed at my school.. other than that the film was aiiight...kinda lame! |

IMPO it actually depicts sorority life pretty nicely. You understand from the beginning of the movie that Zanne has some "issues". This is the only link I could find on the movie: http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0119158/ I've seen it aired on Lifetime, USA and VH1 (the latter because of the band theme, they play it on the days they do 'movies that rock') |
Isn't there another made for tv one, with Jenna Von Oy?
"Dying to Belong" |

there is a great movie called Fraternity Row with Greg Harrison (Gonzo on Trapper John MD). About a pledge and his trials and tribulations in a 50s Era Fraternity at an Eastern school.
I really like this movie, its a drama rather than a comedy and not once of those MOTW/Lifetime movies |
If you like Tom Green-type humour, rent "Road Trip" (the quintessential greek thing to do). Watch out for the 'fun' sorority chick - ouch!!!!

I did a group project about the portrayal of Greek Life through Cinema for my Senior Seminar this year. We had a list of about 40 movies and pared it down to these:
Van Wilder Old School Animal House The Skulls Revenge of the Nerds I and II Dead Man on Campus Road Trip Legally Blonde Secrets of a Sorority Girl The Pink House Sorority Boys An Extremely Goofy Movie Followers Going Greek Some of them were hard to find, but it was fun to watch the differences in the movie. Our project was fun because we surveyed Greeks and non-Greeks on campus and found that, on average, non-Greeks drank more, had lower GPAs, were involved less in many organizations (including religious organizations), etc. It was good actually prove to some peple on my campus that Greeks aren't bad :D |

Did anyone else notice that in "Going Greek" they give them too many points for the last touchdown?

Steppin' Back |
Remember that movie I think it was called "Dying to Belong". I think it originally aired on NBC and has been shown on lifetime. Six from Blossom is in it and I am thinking Hillary Swank played the main character. I remember it came out right around the time I rushed in undergrad. They showed all the classic stereotypical stuff in this movie from "cloaks" to "circling fat" and "scrubbing the sorority house floor with toothbrushes". Six's character died in the movie trying to hang a banner with the sorority's letters from the clocktower on their campus. Then Hilary's character who was on the school paper did a whole "investigation" into pledges that had been hazed really bad in this organization. She ended up getting hell from the sorority she was pledging and stopped, and was harassed by some fraternity boys. It was good but once again promotes all the classic stereotypes of GLO's.

I remember both Dying to Belong and the one with Shannen Dorothy in it too. When I was active in my chapter everyone loved Lifetime so wed all sit in the back living room during the day and watch Lifetime movies and both of those were on oneday. I didnt really care for Dying to Belong cause it was VERY stereotypicial with all the stuff they made them do. Plus that one girl who always gave the evil eye to Hilary Swank in the movie was freaky. Wasnt Becky from Roseanne in that movie too or was that a diff Lifetime movie? SO many Ive seen lol....
Side note, anyone ever seen the movie it was aired on NBC then showed on Lifetime with Tiffani Amber Thessin and Brian Austin Green in it. I forget what it was called where she was raped in the movie and noone believed her cause they were all in the "in" crowd. It was a GOOD movie whatever it was. Id love to see it again. You should be able to request movies to be shown on Lifetime lol. |

I remember watching the "Initiation of Sarah" on tv when I was a little girl. It was scary. Shelley Winters freaked me out.
|
I did find out the movie with Tiffani and Brian was called She Fought Alone and filmed in 1995. Now Ill just have to keep on the lookout on Lifetime or LMN so I can turn my DVR to tape it. :)
|
Breaking Away. It was filmed on the Indiana U campus.

I was wondering whether any of these movies used a real GLO. There is a movie, the Graduate (with Dustin Hoffman), that shows our real letters and our house in UC Berkeley. Maybe the GLO copyright wasn't exist back in 1960s?
"The Graduate" won an Oscar in 1967. :D |
There's a greek-themed movie on PAX tonight-- Heart of Dixie
http://tv.yahoo.com/tvpdb?.src=my&d=...03200&.intl=us A sorority member uses the college newspaper to crusade for civil rights in 1957 Alabama. Adult Situations; Language. Sounds like it won't paint us in such a bad manner-who knows! |
