Online Carnation Sisters
I have been following this thread in the Alpha Delta Pi board, and quite frankly, I LOVE IT.
http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...threadid=46770 We have done secret sisters numerous times on the email list I run...so I am familiar with the process. SO...quoted paraphrase from Sherra Kerbow :) If you would like to have a virtual carnation sister, or the chance to finally have what you may or may not have had with your carnation sister, please post below. I will send each of you a questionaire to complete so that you can be paired accordingly. Your duties will include the following: 1. Available to listen to problems as often as needed and pray or aide in advisement as requested 2. Committed to maintaining contact and open lines of communication If you can not do the above, then please do not sign up. There will be a Big Carnation and a Little Carnation as initiation dates are taken into consideration. This will help give the connection of someone to lean on and come to for support. But since we are GC, the concept should be more mutual and less hierarchy. The deadline to become a gc carnation sister will be Feb 28. I will do the revealing on the March 4th.....FOUNDER'S DAY. edited to fix typos and a date mistake (hey it was very wee hours here then) |

getting started...
Ok..I have the questionaires...but I remember something I did when I was a Phi Director :) that I thought we might try here.
One of the points of getting your "big" or "little" was getting to know as many sisters as possible and then expressing a preference... SO ....everyone who is participating here, let's introduce ourselves. Tell us about you, your interests, your time as a collegiate member, and where you are in your life now ;) WHO WANTS TO GO FIRST? |
I think I'll take a break from packing and jump in...
My name is Jennifer. I'm from a small college town in New Jersey, right outside of Philadelphia, going to school in NC. Sometimes the whole Yankee culture shock thing can get interesting, but for the most part, it's an enlightening experience. :D I'm a voice student earning a degree in music education, although I'd really love to continue studying music as a performance art in grad school. I've got a year to go (student teaching in SPRING 2005! AAAARRGGHH!!!). I'd love to go to Indiana University; their School of Music is fantastic! (They've also got a Phi Mu chapter there. ;)). I am currently serving as my chapter's first Music Director; I'm on the Panhellenic Exec board as Scholarship Director, both positions I absolutely love. I'm a charter member of UNCG's chapter of Order of Omega, which I'm really looking forward to being involved with. My big and my little are roommates; how funny is that? We're a really close little family within the family of Phi Mu. While I generally feel really great hanging out with my sisters, those two are the ones that especially warm my heart. So let's see...what do I have time for besides being in a sorority, on Panhellenic, and a music major? I read a lot. I try to stay organized. I play in the Pep Band for basketball, and really enjoy supporting our team/demoralizing the other team. :D I love to sing, and do it as much as I can. I'm SO not into partying; a night out with the guys, answering all their questions about women and our dastardly motives, is usually how I'd spend a Saturday night. Although I have spent some fabulous pajama-party nights in the chapter room, watching "Legally Blonde" or "American Idol" and letting it rip with my sisters! I think that's mostly it for me. :) |
My turn...
My name is Claire. I'm an alumna of the Phi Kappa chapter of Muhlenberg College. I was initiated in the fall of 2000 and I graduated in May 2003. While I was a collegiate, I served as corresponding secretary and co-chair of the ritual and standards comitees. I have a big named Alison, a little named Allie and an alum chum named Allie lol...
In college I majored in International Studies and minored in French. I studied abroad in Provence, France during my junior year and had the absolute best 5 months of my life there. Since graduating, I've been floating around various temp jobs and have been trying to find my place in the world. I taught French and Spanish for a semester, worked retail at Xmas time and now I volunteer on some political campaigns. I love international travel and learning about other cultures. Living and working abroad one day is a big dream of mine. In my free time, I enjoy sailing, restoring old boats, doing jig saw puzzles, crocheting, reading and watching TV (West Wing, Will and Grace, ER, Friends and Cheers Reruns.) |
My name is Adrienne. I pledged Lambda Beta at Appalachian State in Spring of 00 and when I left App. State in Spring of 01 due to family issues, I went alum status. I took a year off and now am finishing up my last semester at UNCC Charlotte as a poltical science major. I am looking at two job possibilities and hopefully interviewing for them soon. I would either relocate to Carrboro, NC or Raleigh, NC. During Fall 02 and some of Spring 03 I was Philathropic Chair for the Phi Mu Charlotte Alumna Chapter. I enjoy writing poetry, reading, talking, shopping, pilates, powerwalking and being an advocate for human rights and other political issues. I am also the current president of the College Democrats Chapter at UNCC. I fell in love with Phi Mu because of their colors and open motto!

Aww, Pammie, I didn't know that. I'm sorry. My Phi Mu prayers are w/ you. |
Hi there. I am Ginger and I am from the Alpha Delta chapter at Ole Miss. We are currently the largetst Phi Mu chapter with over 250 members. I pledged in 1999 and I just graduated in December and I am on a job hunt. I majored in Family and Consumer Science.
I love love music...I don't sing or play any instruments, but I love music. I love makeup and fashion also. I plan to move to a big city here in the next few months (either NYC or LA). I also love dance and gymnastics, but don't do either of them as much as I used to. Mainly I just try to have fun whatever I do and my friendships and family are very important to me. |
My name is Lizzie, and I joined the Beta Kappa chapter at Bucknell University in 1994. I was the Phi Director there and graduated in 1997 with a BS in Computer Engineering. I later got my MS in CS from Georgia Tech, and now I'm a software engineer.
I'm a Jersey girl at heart, although I've lived all over. I've been a member of the Atlanta Alum Chapter, I've met some women from the Bay Area Alum Chapter, and I'm currently the VP of Membership for the Boston Alum Chapter. I'm a figure skater, skier, and I love building things in the snow. When it *isn't* winter, I like playing soccer and softball, and I'm a beach bum to boot! I'm also a closet musician, and spend my sundays in a choral group. PS - I'll be gone for our founder's day (skiing vacation) Hope I can still be involved! |

Of course you can play :) still |
Hey girls!!
My name is Kristen Ashcraft, and I'm a member of the Theta Alpha chapter. I am a new member, pledge class fall 2003. This year I am helping with our new girls, as the assistant Phi director. I plan on going into elementary education. I love children, this summer I hope to be able to volunteer at St. Judes. I love drawing, acting, and singing(I'm not good, I just enjoy it). I'm very easy to talk to, and LOVE meeting new people. I have been very involved with Phi Mu from the beginning, I love helping wherever I can. I love my sisters! I have already gotten so much from this group of ladies. Today I met 3 sisters from Troy State University and talked to them for an hour. It's so neat!! Well I think that's it. LIOB, Kristen |
All about me!
My name is Deb. I pledged Phi Mu in Spring 2004 at Indiana University of PA (Beta Sigma) and graduated in 1997 (the year the Beta Sigma chapter closed).
I was ritual chair and chaplain. I am currently in my last semester of graduate school in Student Affairs in Higher Education. I am also currently helping another Beta Sigma start an Alumnae chapter for the Indiana, PA. area. |
Hiya. I'm Phyllis, from Rho Beta at University of Michigan Dearborn. I pledge in winter 2000, with a Phi class of 4. I'm the only sister left from my Phi class! I graduated high school in 1999. I wasn't too interested in sororities, till I kept getting COB calls, and finally checked Phi Mu out. Here I am, a 5th year student, been in for almost 4 years. I'm loving it! Currently I'm the Panhel Delegate, but I've held numerous chair positions before like social external, formal a few times, Bid Day, and a few others that I can't remember. I'm currently planning my last formal :( !
Oh yeah and one more important thing... I leave for conference in 12 hours! |
Check your PM's
Ok..questionaires are out!
Everyone be sure to check your PM box and respond!!! |
i'm a bit late with the tell everyone everything but....
I'm megan, and i'm vp membership for athens OH alum chapter, and i was secretary and philanthropy chair for delta delta while i was a collegiate member. i'm a secondary education major with a focus in social studies and i have minors in history and political science. i love to sing and have appeared in many plays and musicals in the past. i also love to read and just hang out. i really want to be accepted into the peace corps after i graduate from college (in June 2005!!!!!!!!). i want to work with youth in latin america or the carribean (i have no idea if i spelled that right). thought of some more!:D I really like classic movies...Cary Grant, Aubrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly...anything in black and white. My history minor really comes out when people hear what I like to read, which is anything published before 1900 or so, or anything published after that that is placed in the not so close to 2004 past. i like the color pink (of course)...my new favorite accessory is my pink Ohio University hat i throw one whenever i don't feel like drying or straigtening my hair and need to hid my messy ponytail. i'm a sucker for carbs of any sort...bring on the pasta and potatoes! and i couldn't have lasted more than about 2 hours on the atkins diet under any circumstances. i think that about cover it! |
Ok, here I go...
My name is Liz, and I'm a 5th-year senior at Delta Iota Chapter, Baldwin-Wallace College, right outside of Cleveland, OH. I'm a music management major (vocal music major, business minor), and I don't plan on using my major when I get out in May. Speaking of graduation... I CAN'T WAIT!!! -- even though I have no idea what I'm going to do afterwards. The only thing I do know is that, at least for a while, I'll probably be back in crummy ol' Baltimore, MD living with my mom (also a Phi Mu) until she drives me crazy. Outside of Phi Mu, my interests include country music (yeah Kenny Chesney!!!), Care Bears (people say I'm nuts for being so attached to them... ohwell), computer imaging (not 3-D or anything spiffy like that, though), Audrey Hepburn, and classic movies. Big-time partying isn't my thing. Running around like an a-hole screaming how drunk I am (or will be) has just never made sense to me (of course, there is that one time I slept in my closet... but we'll save that for later). Plus, my tolerance is too high now (thanks to that closet incident) that it's almost impossible for me to get drunk -- so I don't even try. I'll just sit down and drink a glass of wine or a bottle of beer while I'm working (yes, even doing homework, I'll admit), and just stay in and chill with my friends on a Friday or Saturday night. I joined Phi Mu in the fall of 1999, and was initiated on November 18. Sufficient to say, I'm the last remaining member of my Phi Class -- and the two after me. ;) I've never served on DI's Executive Council, but I would have loved to. My grades have never been... well... acceptable, really, so that's why I could really run for any position. Had they been alright, I would love to have run for President and/or Phi Director. The two positions I have had were Website Director for 2 years and Ritual Chairman for 4 years. Yes, 4 years. Nobody ever wanted to take the position over, but I don't know why! I loved the position more than anything. I actually trained the incoming officer last Wednesday, and I almost cried when I gave her the key to our Ritual closet. This summer I will (hopefully) be attending Convention, but most likely not for the entire time. I would love to, but the fact is, I can't afford it. I'll be there for Sunday, though, when they have Initiation, the Memorial Service, Sisterhood Luncheon, and Carnation Banquet. If I'm not there on Saturday, too, that means that I can go to the Kenny Chesney concert in Maryland -- woo hoo!!! Two of my favorite things back-to-back!!! :) |
