APO Roll Call!
I've seen similar threads in many of the other forums and thought this would be fun for us, since we don't have one here. Plus I'm just nosy and want to know who everyone else is. :D Please post your name, chapter/school, when you pledged, offices you've held (if any), why you joined APO, and anything else you'd like.
I'll start, since I'm asking. Name: Rachel Chapter/School: Mu, Indiana University Pledged: Fall 1993 Offices I've Held: Campus Activities Chair, VAX Chair (what we called it then, now the title is Webmaster!) Why I Joined APO: My former roommate pledged a semester before I did, and she really enjoyed it. I decided to go to a rush meeting and check it out...and I stuck around. Anything Else: Unfortunately, I've not been a very active alum, although I am hoping to change that this year! |
Name: Rashid
Chapter/School: Mu Alpha Chapter, Georgetown University Pledged: Spring '99 Offices: Vice-President of Communications (responsibilities included being second-in-command, webmaster, email master, and director of a scholarship endowment); Pledgemaster. On the sectional level, served as sponsor of the Petitioning Group at Howard University. I currently serve on the National History and Archives Committee. Why I joined APO: To perform more community service; to become uniquely bonded to the campus through Mu Alpha's legacy; to expand my horizons by becoming close to people different from myself. Anything Else: APO needs major structural and ideological changes to take place at all levels before we can truly be prosperous. |
Name: Devonte
Chapter/School: Psi Phi Chapter/ Tennesee State University Pledged: Spring 2003 Offices I've Held: Vice President of Pledge Class & "Current" Vice President of Communications Why I Joined APO: I was a freshman on campus and APO held their National Service Week events and all the brothers were very nice and I attend the rush and I was interested after that. Anything Else: I plan on attending the National Convention this year. I'm a road trpper and I plan on being all across the US map. |

Chapter/School: Alpha Beta, Penn State Pledged: Fall 2003 Offices I've Held: None yet. I will be running for one for next year. Why I Joined APO: I always wanted to be involved in a greek org here on campus. I thought I would be in a sorority but the Lord made sure I knew that it wasn't in the plans for me and He steered me to APO. I came to the last info session for the semester 10 mins after I knew it was going on and I knew I found the place for me here. After I-night, there was no doubts. :) Anything Else: This spring we have an awesome pledge class of 30 pledges! I've met all of them and they are truly great assets to the chapter. Also, THON is going on this week. This is our first huge service project for the semester and it is a University-wide event. We have been raising money since October and we have 4 dancers in it. I'm so proud of them. Go to http://www.thon.org/ to get more info. |

Name: Delishia
Chapter/School: Psi Phi Chapter, Tennessee State University Pledged: April 4, 2003 Offices I've Held: Vice President of Service *Currently holding the position* Why I Joined APO: Ok...my APO story is kinda long, but here goes. When I was a student at Howard University, my current boyfriend *a student at TSU* would always sing praises of Alpha Phi Omega. He talked like they were the best thing since sliced bread. At the time I had never heard of them. At the same time a very close friend at Kappa Delta (FAMU) was going through rush/pledge class activities. I began to wonder what the heck was APO and why didn't we have it at Howard. Around this same time a certain brother of the fraternity, Rashid, had started to put out info about APO at Howard. I believed and felt strongly about the principles of the fraternity so I joined other students, under Rashid's direction, to form our IG. I was elected the first President of the Howard University Interest Group. * A lil known fact for some people on this forum * Then I transferred to TSU the following Fall. I saw how magnificent the National Service Week was at TSU. The student center was decked out in blue and gold and they had events all week. I went to the information/rush and the rest is history. Anything Else: I love Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity Inc. *especially Psi Phi chapter...I got love for Zeta Phi too :p *; however, there are issues that need to be dealt with on a national level and views that the fraternity need to address and agree on. |

Walked on campus and before classes had officially started I had done 3 service hours. YiLFS Randy |

Name: Dominic Goodman School: Johnson C. Smith University Chapter: Delta Phi Office: Dean of Pledges Why I joined APO? I joined APO because of the fact that this was a new organization that came onto my campus and I wanted to learn more about it. Fall 2002 was when I attended the original interest meeting along with a few others. Since then, we have all performed service, displayed leadership, and brought amongst us some of the best friendships that you will ever see. Now, on this day, Sunday, February 29, 2004, we are officially rechartered as the Delta Phi Chp. of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity, incorporated. |

Once I learned of the rich background that the Delta Phi Chapter had and what the organization was about, I was like "I'm down, lets get this thang started!" Anything else: I just want to say "thank you" to all the chapters that were there for JCSU's Petitioning group through this long process, as well as those (you know who you are) that kept many of us grounded and informed about the Brotherhood! |

Chapter/School: Tau Mu, University of South Florida Pledged/Petitioned: Spring 2003 Office Held: Service VP Why I pledged: My life's passion is to be of service to my community. I was recommended/personally invited (based on my volunteer background) to attend the first meeting for the extension effort to recharter Tau Mu at the Unversity of South Florida. Upon attending the meeting and learning the history I was immediately drawn to what the organization stood for. There was no turning back from that day forth... Name: Kimberly Rochelle McLaurin
Pledged: Fall 2002 Chapter/School: Phi Kappa/UNC-Greensboro Offices Held: Pledgemaster, VP of Service Why I joined APO?: I joined Alpha Phi Omega because of my old co-workers. They came to work with a shirt on and told me more about the organization. At that time, I wasn't interested in anything on campus, so I thought that this would be a good way to stick my foot in the door. I am so glad that I did, and now I can't see myself not doing it! Anything Else?: I must say, that since joining Alpha Phi Omega here at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro my eyes have been open to many different things. I have had the chance of bring in 20 new Brothers and also the chance of defending my organization to other Greek organizations. No, APO may not be considered "Greek" but to those who put in the time, money, and dedication, it is nothing less than that. When you stand for Leadership, Friend and Service, you stand for Greek Life. That is the motto of most greek organizations and we, as in APO do the exact same thing. So please, I never never ever want anyone to step to me about wearing a raised letter APO shirt. I pay my dues, and do my work! "sorry, i guess i needed to vent right quick" |

The many service projects, step shows, fellowships, parties, ... they all made me realize how great my fraternity was and I knew I was here to stay. |

Name: Tomas
Chapter/School: Theta Chi, The George Washington Unversity Pledged: March 31, 2004 (fresh brotha) Offices I've Held: None Yet Why I Joined APO: Mimi put me on to it-- and after I read what it was about, I put myself on the line and made it happen. I do my neighborhood proper and have a special spot in my heart for helping the kids-- now I'm doing it in the name of Alpha Phi Omega. Anything Else: Now that I'm active, I serve with my chapter, and even keep doing outside service by my own. I felt the 'hood' and connection with my brothas but it was all the 'Broas' at Zeta Phi that set it off. WASSUP MY BROTHAS! Hit up a new bro. when you get a minute. |
Name: Lerea
Chapter: Alpha Epsilon/Louisiana State University Pledged: Fall '02 AKA "Dat Dacy" Offices I've Held: Fellowship Chair and newly elected Membership Vice Pres Why I Joined APO: Many of my friends were already in the org, and I was invited to come to sectionals that was held here in Baton Rouge in Spring '02. I met great people and made the decision to pledge the following semester. Anything else: Ever since I crossed, there has been DRAMA of tremendous proportions in my chapter. If you want to know, just ask... Nevertheless, I'm still here representing my pledge class, my brothers, my chapter, and my friends. "We can be changed by what happens, but we refuse to be reduced by it". |
Name: Rachel
Chapter/School: Alpha Gamma Alpha, Dickinson College Pledged: Fall 2003 (Alpha Delta Pledge Class) Offices I've Held: Well I've been on pretty much every committee thanks to my, "If you need help, just let me know" statement. Plus I really loved the idea of having a formal and brotherhood retreat. :) |

Chapter/School: Zeta Phi, Howard University ("Black Beta") Pledged: PG, IG, PG, Initiated April 26, 2003 Offices I've Held: VP of Membership Why I Joined APO: It was a great opportunity to be a part of a wonderful organization rechartering at Howard that is dedicated to uplifting the community. Name: Erika
Chapter/School: Tau Mu, University of South Florida Pledged: Didn't Pledge, 2nd Petitioning Ceremony Oct 17, 2003 Offices I've Held: Recording & Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer, and now, current President Why I Joined APO: I was in an interest group of another organization in Fall 2002 and things didn't workout. I was the president of the interest group you had to go through before being picked to pledge. After leaving that org, I saw a banner for Alpha Phi Omega and wrote the Nat'l office cause I knew there wasn't a chapter. However, after all the drama with the previous org, I was weary of joining a new organization, considering I had my dues paid in full (265) (it covered the crossing jacket and everything) and what I had experienced. Well, in August 2004, I found out that Alpha Phi Omega was still active on campus (known stories of groups trying to form dying out before it gets active). Been active since and I feel like I am home. Chapters stay true to their principles and show true love towards their members, unlike what I had experienced. Interesting Fact about Chapter: Tau Mu is the current Big Brother Chapter of the Mu Omega Petitioning Group. Tau Mu was the Big Brother chapter of the chartering and rechartering of Psi Omega. Just thought that was cool. Anything Else: I want to be an active alum, I may have a year left of the collegiate arena and would like to be on Section staff. I am unsure if I am going to stay in Florida. Also, if anyone is up for a road trip to Tampa, lemme know. |
Name: Keisha Pollard
Chapter/School: Psi Phi, Tennessee State University Pledged/Probate: November 2001/Spring 2002 16 Conspiracy Theories Offices: Pledge Trainer, unofficial Fellowship Chair, President. I have held every office in this chapter unoffically. I'm a dedicated member. Why I joined: This was my opportunity to be apart of an organization that did not have a stereotype on the campus and stood for something positive. I also give my time and energy to those who need it and why not do it with your peers. Anything else: I have enjoyed being an active member of APO since my inception. The friends, well we are family at Psi Phi, that I have met is unbelievable. These are people that I wil truly miss while I'm away exploring my life and I hope the legacy continues. One Love "The 16" and especially "The Elite 8" the truest line to come through Psi Phi. |

At some point, I was approached by an APO brother who told me a little about the organization, so I went to an interest meeting and decided to pledge. :) I needed the support of friends as well as the opportunity to do something good for others that made me feel good about myself. Anything Else: I am so pleased to reconnect with this organization through Greek Chat and I've decided to become a more active alum. YAY! |
