I Hate V-Day

Ok so it is Valentines Day and every where I go every one is like "happy V-day, what are your plans" and I am "Sleep and study" and their answer 'oh so you do not have a boyfriend, but you are pretty. How strange"

I can't wait till tomorow when people stop this stupid crap!

Even the mall is crazy, the little flashing light board outside the mall has flashing electronic Valentines, some of them have "will you marry me"

Come 02/15/04, Christia needs some insanity!

Lady Pi Phi 02-14-2004 09:07 AM

I hate V-day too. But I'm going out drinking with my single friends.
I don't care if I don't have a man, I just don't want to sit at home by myself while everyone else goes out.

_Opi_ 02-14-2004 10:43 AM

I think everyday should be Valentine's Day. Wouldn't that be nice? :D

not if you're single.

DigitalAngel126 02-14-2004 11:32 AM

I hate it. :(

honeychile 02-14-2004 11:51 AM

Valentine's Day is a matter of attitude. Whether you're with someone or not, you have the ability to choose if you're happy or not.

If you don't have someone, pick someone! Isn't there someone in your life who will possibly never get a Valentine's Day card, or flowers, or any thing of the sort? Would it absolutely kill you to send an anonymous card or gift? How about picking up a bouquet of flowers at a supermarket, and pass a few out to strangers? Or just bury your own face in the blooms, and let people see how lovely you look while you're beaming with the pleasure of flowers!

Look, you can sit inside and feel sorry for yourself, or you can make the most of the day. I learned this lesson a few years back, and haven't moped on a Valentine's Day since!

It's never the wrong time to make someone else happy!!

eta: In case you think I'm being a hypocrite, I'll be visiting a senior citizen's home, then my mom in the hospital today. Later, I'll indulge in a little chocolate & old movies. But I have this feeling that I'm going to have more fun than those of y'all that are sitting home and moping!

cutiepatootie 02-14-2004 12:00 PM

Valentines day SUCKS!!!!!

alikat2 02-14-2004 12:00 PM

I'm also going out drinking with my single friends. It will probably more fun that having some random date (I did go out with a guy last night, but I really don't want to spend V-Day with some guy I'm lukewarm about).

ADPiZXalum 02-14-2004 12:14 PM

All those in favor of officially changing the holiday name to Single's Awareness Day, say aye!

This is a great idea, and would PROBABLY make people feel better but most are way too busy feeling sorry for themselves.

Not having a Valentine is not the end of the world people, and it really shouldn't have the power to make you hate the day. Just go out and have fun anyway.

I couldn't agree more...it's just one day people...why begrudge the people who are happily "whatevered" just because you might not have a specific special someone? For many years my special someone was my mom or my sister or one of my girlfriends. I have a BF now, but if it was one day only that he showed me he cared or thought that I was special and acted like a total moron for the rest of the year, what good is that? Why allow yourself or anyone else to feel bad just because you are who you are and you are not with someone else?

YOU ARE SPECIAL TOO! Buy yourself a valentine's card...better yet buy one for your best friend, sig other, sorority sister and get over the hating the "V-Day" madness...:)

AlphaGamDiva 02-14-2004 03:01 PM

i hate this year's v-day b/c my parents have secluded me in their house b/c the dr said "bed rest"......so i can't go see my b/f.....and since he's black, he's not allowed in the house. :( so we had a big talk last night......i'm so tired of dealing with this. emotionally exhausting....and he's starting to get really worried about our future b/c of how much i was upset and crying last night, as am i.....don't know what to do.

happy v-day to me.... :(

MTSUGURL 02-14-2004 03:01 PM

Why I'm not too fond of Valentines Day:

There's entirely too much PINK.

We had a VDay party yesterday for my 3 years olds. After all the sugar their parents sent for them to eat, I'm surprised the teachers made it out alive.... One of the little boys kept jumping up and down saying, "More choc'ate! More choc'ate!" Another kept running around head butting us in the rear end...

I can't hang out with my best friend (a guy) today without everyone asking us if we're dating.

My grandmother invited me over to spend the day with her "so I won't be miserable". I actually have plans today that I'm excited about. Please don't assume singleness means misery.

rhochi2002 02-14-2004 03:54 PM

I am not a big fan of the day myself.
so I try to pamper my self, get my nails done, go shopping what ever.
Remember its a day about love, you love your parents, your pets, you love...

sugar and spice 02-14-2004 03:59 PM

I don't see the point in moping and I'm not going to do it (going to a concert and then drinking with my girls) but I still hate Valentine's Day. I have for years and this is the first time in my life that I've actually had an excuse to be bitter about it.

I've never been able to celebrate Valentine's Day while being with someone without feeling massively guilty about how ishtty I'm making my single friends feel. So it's never really been a fun holiday for me either way.

33girl 02-14-2004 04:29 PM

For all the VD haters...

History Channel is there for you. Tonight's programming is a special on the St Valentine's Day massacre. :p

Lady Pi Phi 02-14-2004 05:46 PM

Just because someone hate Valentines Day doesn't mean they are going to sit home and be miserable. Like I said before. I'm going out with single friends tonight, and we're going to have a great time. Have some drinks, have some laughs. I'm really looking forward to it.

But I still hate Valentines Day.

I hate V-Day to... but I'm not going to sit at home and mope around (well or work on a paper). I'm going to get boldly drunk and have a great time with all the other singles out celebrating at one of the many "anti-valentines day parties" around Toronto.... well to be truthful I'll most likely end up at the Brunny :)

alikat2 02-14-2004 06:57 PM

I have no one to buy me presents this year, so my best friend and I went shopping and I bought myself some Godiva's as well as one of those trendy right-hand diamond rings....I also bought myself a tiara to wear out tonight because I'm just feeling crazy today.

:) :) :)

AXJules 02-14-2004 08:30 PM

I don't hate Valentine's day, I am incredibly happy to see couples out and about that look happy. That fills me with an amazing feeling and totally makes my day, even though I don' thave someone.

What DOES suck, however, is that I'm having the shittiest day ever, and people keep telling me to keep my chin up, b/c another guy will come along.
OH MY GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD it has nothing to do with V Day, if it happened on a Monday no one would even blink. So let me have my shitty day and get upset, and don't be so self centered to think it's because of YOU.

hottytoddy 02-14-2004 09:13 PM

Almost all of my friends got dates at the last minute. One of my friends wants me to go to this terrible bar with her. I'm not sure I want to spen valentine's day looking at mullets and fat girls dancing on each other. UGH!!!! Why can't she want to go somewhere cool.

SmartBlondeGPhB 02-14-2004 10:55 PM

My cat agreed to be my Valentine..........................lol

I actually went snowboarding all by myself and had a blast!

Saw a very good looking young man too while I was at it. He even noticed me too.

I personally don't care either way about the day, it's just another day.

I did get a nice card from a guy friend though. So it's not a totally lost day. :D :D

Ditto to this.

I spent the day at work helping lots of ladies ensure they look HOT tonight for their dates, and helping lots of men pick out nice presents. Tonight was a nice relaxing night. Yeah, there's somewhere I'd rather be and someone I'd rather be with, but so what? I wouldn't be feeling bad about this if it was any other Saturday night, so why should I today?

Sister Havana 02-15-2004 12:14 AM

Count me among those not fond of Valentine's Day. I am single, but I never really cared for it when I was dating someone either.

Shameless plug: my friend Mona, who does an Internet radio show every Saturday night, is doing an anti-Valentine's day music show tonight. It just started and it's already lots of fun. :D The URL is http://www.midnightcaferadio.net if anyone wants to listen. :D

And my dog is my Valentine...although I think he was mad at me because I spent most of the afternoon at the auto show instead of paying attention to him. heh.

You're all about as fun as genital herpes. That is why you don't have dates for valentines day.

Rudey, you're an a**hole.

But you're a funny a**hole, and I love ya for it.

Have a fantastic day. :D

ITs Over, we can move on now.

hottytoddy 02-15-2004 01:14 PM

I went to the most redneck bar on the planet lastnight and got completely 'housed! I had a great Valentine's Day--saw lots of mullets.

MeLikey 02-15-2004 02:31 PM

Even though I'm single, I still like Valentine's Day. It's fun to go out with all of your single friends and not care. Right now I like being single and having options so the day doesn't bother me. When I see guys or girls carrying roses around, my first thought is awww that's so sweet, not damn, I wish those were for me. Like people said, it really is your individual attitude toward the day.

sugar and spice 02-15-2004 05:52 PM

I actually had one of the best Valentine's Days that I've ever had.

Mason Jennings was my Valentine. Too bad he's married. ;)

Also my friend Sarah (one of my girls who came to the concert with me) gave me a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Valentine that told me that I am "mondo to the max." It's like the best Valentine I have ever gotten.

Then today she and I went out in search of all the leftover V-Day chocolate that's on clearance now.

But I still hate Valentine's Day. :p

I had a pretty good V.D. Went shopping with my best friend and later went out to a club, got drunk and danced my ass off. Much better than hanging out with some silly boy I probably won't remember in six months. ;)

Well I did end up at the Brunny and had a great time.... got to work out a little stress and tension after some a**hole picked a fight with me..... I just can't stand bad drunks and last night was not the night to act like a jackass.

Oh well I'm feeling fine, and tonight a local sorority is throwing a "Anti-Valentines" party.... so it should be fun.

Lady Pi Phi 02-15-2004 10:26 PM

I had an awsome time last night. Had a blast with my single friends. I'm all partied out right now. I think I need to go to bed.

I hope everyone else who hates V-day had fun last night too!

Rollergirl2001 01-27-2005 12:00 AM

I thought that I bring this post back up. Once again, I will not celebrate V Day. I haven't celebrate V-Day since middle school. You know, when you're a kid, you used to look forward to Valentine's Day to get those small, cool cards. But now that you're grown up, sometimes you don't feel excited if you do not have a boyfriend or girlfriend.

Valentine's Day: Bah Humbug!

CUGreekgirl 01-27-2005 12:14 AM

I have 2 dates for Valentines.... the two little boys I babysit for! There parents asked me at the very beginning of Jan. to babysit that night, and knowing I wouldn't have a date I agreed. Even though its a monday night i might go out afterwards and get drunk with my single friends. I've worked part time a a preschool on and off for the past 4 yrs. Its great on Valentines day. I get cards from all the kids and some of them even give me boxes of chocolate! And of course they have a party with more sugar than you can imagine!

ShootingStar 01-27-2005 12:32 AM

a few of my sisters and i decided that this year we would be each others valentines since we didnt have guys...

we're just going to get each other cards and some chocolate or something

however i want to find a chocolate penis...if not i'll just end up with the gummy penis' i think it will be funny
