MTV's Carmen - Memorable Moments (LMAO)

What a WASTE of airtime. I know that the execs at Snapple are ticked off that they paid all those advertising dollars for that hunk of hot ghetto mess.

Here are my memorable moments:

1. Why was Lil Bow Wow in the same jail cell as Mekhi? What happened to juvenile centers?

2. Why was Bow Wow trying to fight that grown prisoner outside the jail.

3. Mekhi's line..."all I could think about in jail was the smell of your hair"....LMBAO - I can smell that horse mess through the TV, so I know what he means!

4. What's up with the red dress at the bar? Was it a special occassion.

5. Mekhi's fiance looked 100% better than Carmen.

6. How is it that he slept with her one night and the next day they were in love and wanted to spend the rest of their lives together.

7. I've never heard of a policman letting someone stop off at home to take off a ring. (huh?)

8. Since when did Rodeo drive have palm reading shops?

WHY OH WHY did my husband wake up this morning and say "I had a dream about Destiny's Child - ALL NIGHT LONG". Poor soul was in shock when I told him that they all have weaves.

MaMaBuddha 05-09-2001 01:55 PM

i am sorry but i can't get over the fact that when they were crossing the street to go in the Tarot Card Place...you see the CRACK of the Beyonces and the other girl ass!!!!

that had me cracking up!!!!

kitten03 05-09-2001 02:18 PM

I want to see the actual opera Carmen after viewing this ridiculous waste of air time. I loved the plot though. Had it been done more TASTEFULLY i would have enjoyed it more. That thang was way too ghetto!

I was thinking the same thing. What was he doing there?

And what about Lil Bow Wow trying to run from the cops in that yellow vest?!? Where did he think he was gonna hide looking all bright!
The only scene of the movie that I liked was when homegirl stole on her man after she and Beyonce had their little tussle http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

If you want to see a QUALITY movie about Carman please rent "Carman Jones" starring Dorothy Dandridge & Harry Belafonte it's one of my all time favorites. I fell asleep after watching MTV's version for about 20 min.

Classy_Diva5 05-09-2001 02:32 PM

AND JUST HOW DID BEYONCE AND MEKHI MAKE IT TO CALIFORNIA THAT FAST IN THE CAR?!? http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/otn/confused/aeh.gif

AND HOW REALISTIC WAS IT OF RAH DIGGA AND A$$ CRACK TO BE INVITED TO LIVE IN BEVERLY HILLS/ L.A. AFTER MEETING BLAZE FOR THE FIRST TIME? http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/otn/lau...elrotflmao.gif

You should be able to find "Carman Jones" in most video stores in the "musicals" or "classics" section.

Hey ladies,
I don't mean to barge in on your conversation but I had heard that Carmen was based of like a Shakespear play. Is that correct or not. I've read your threads and heard about a movie/musical, but I thought that if it were actually based off one of William's plays then that might perhaps explain some of the odd things...well that and it IS MTV. What can we all expect. Anyway, hope someone knows. Thanks.

LOL @ each and every one of you!!!!

I just wanna know why old boy (Mos Def) came all the way from Philly to Cali with only two bullets in his gun. What in the world was that all about?

And how about when it didn't shoot the first six times he was aiming at Mehki, he tried to shoot it again later. Were we supposed to believe that it was clogged or jammed?

In the words of the gay movie critics on In Living Color...... "HATED IT!!!!!!!!!!" With two snaps and a hip wiggle.

I was trying to be nice in the other thread by saying she has "potential". Now, with a good acting coach maybe she can get there. Or maybe not...

"Carmen" was an opera by Georges Bizet with at least one film adaptation, meantioned earlier ("Carmen Jones").

Miss. Mocha - I was wondering the same thing? How do you head out to shoot someone and forget to load up your gun? I was dying when he went to shoot it again.

What about the part where the Beyonce, Rah Digga and Booty Crack Mama had a little video of themselves going about moving to Cali. It looked like one of those music videos that you can make at an amusement park. Come on MTV, music videos are synonomous with your name.

Ladies - y'all are making me laugh TOO hard. I sprained my ankle yesterday and everytime I read the new postings on this thread I laugh so hard it makes my ankle hurt.

Am I the only one who finds Mos Def attractive? http://www.plauder-smilies.de/knuddel.gif
I was feelin him a lot more than Nappy...i mean Blaze

Rodeo Drive also had tarot card readers. Why did Wyclef look like Hits dressed up like Cleo. Someone stop the madness. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/tales/merlin.gif

I'm mad at Mekhi though...I have so much love for him and I hate to see him give it all to "Carmen". I'm not going to cry...only on the inside. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/bawling.gif

Just a side note, This "film" was directed by Robert Townsend. The person who brought us Meteor Man and BAPS (Black American Princesses) Yall remember that movie Halle Berry was in... http://www.plauder-smilies.de/kopfpatsch.gif

Well maybe there's room for progress. the next time MTV does a Hipopera...which it will. maybe it will be better.

Somebody stop me I'm addicted to smilies

Isn't MTV the ones behind the new Wizard of Oz with Brandy as the lead? That should tell you something there. LOL at the Wyclef/Hits/Cleo line. Wyclef did not need that turban on. He doesn't need anything to accentuate that receding hairline of his.

Did any of you all recoganize "Zandria" from the parenthood? She was the sista that "Derrick" Mekhi left for "Carmen".

I did! Parenthood used to be my show! I must say too that I wish her parts in the movie could have been a little longer. She did a good job with what little spotlight they gave her though.

songstress21 05-09-2001 08:57 PM

It's too bad I didn't get to see the masterpiece. I guess I'll have to catch the rerun. On bet.com there is a review which I thought was very funny and probably accurate! The brotha said Beyonce wasn't sexy in the movie!! I think it's safe to say she is no Dororhty Dandridge. But I'm sure it doesn't matter cuz Kelly and Michelle will be there in the end to tell Miss Knowles how fabulous she was!!!

NYMinute 05-09-2001 11:14 PM

Hello,

I was trying to be unbiased and impartial, but this Hip-Hopera stank. Beyonces acting was awful. I think Cindy Brady could have done a better job. The only thing I enjoyed was the intermitent rapping. That was creative. I am not even going to touch Bow Wow in an adult prison....yeechh
If anyone who works at MTV or Paramount Television reads this, PULEEZE don't try THAT again http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif

MS.REVLON 05-10-2001 12:15 AM

I am so glad I missed this tragic acting. I can just see Beyonce's father after the bad reviews. He thinks his child is the next Vanessa Williams.

ENDROAD 05-11-2001 11:33 AM

Okay, I haven't said anything on this forum, ever but I had to put my opinion down on this one. Thank Goodness, the revelation that I have tried to bring forth has finally come to light. Beyonce Knowles is not unique, just her name. Now I am no hater, but yes she has a weave, sure she can sing and dance, but so can all my friends from high-school and none of them have weaves. All my friends had long hair for some reason.(irelevant poinT). http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif I say the Carmen with Dorothy Dandrige and yes she is the bomb. Robert Townsend needs a smacking, the best thing he has ever done was the Five Heartbeats.

I am sorry, the hip hopera was entertaining you've got to admit that much. I was laughing all the way through it. Kings of comedy ---look out!

However I was quite upset that Rah "and I write my own ryhmes!" Digga actually rapped those corny lines.

Did anyone notice that Mehki didn't even wash his face before sitting to that kitchen table.
How do you cook an entire meal without the aroma waking someone up?
Am I confused but didn't Carmen tell her friend that she was gonna end up getting with Blaze so she could dig his pockets? Then turn around and kicks it with him herself.

Oh poor Robert Townsend, it's "night's like this I wish that rain drops would fallllll"!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Hollywood Shuffle was also a really good movie. That would be my personal vote for his best.

And come ON y'all, Beyonce wasn't great, but she was not THAT BAD! She was BETTER THATN MONICA IN LOVE SONG!!! Now THAT was some poor acting.

But the little "going back to cali" segment was in fac bootleg and trife. What the heck did rah digga have on her head? Who told booty crack girl that she could rap? Actually, who told her that she was cute?

Mos Def was DEFINITELY the best thing about the movie

Nubian 05-14-2001 12:05 AM

I just caught this masterpiece...

What idiot made butt crack sexy? The last time I checked it was associated with fat, nasty, plumbers. By the way, everyone should get ready for Destiny Child's new single based on Carmen the hipopera, written and produced by Beyonce..it's title? Crackalicious. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Salience 05-14-2001 01:29 AM

ROFLSLMBO!!

I have no cable, but I was about to run out and get it for a week just to watch this trash!! Mayeb I'll have a friend tape it. You know I feel like those people who drive by horrible accidents and slow down to see severed limbs? I just really want to see this horrible movie, after everyone has trashed it so eloquently!

And I will admit to being anti-Beyonce. It's like trying to relive the Supremes drama with less class.

exquizit 05-14-2001 08:12 AM

I'm laughing my sick butt off over here at "Crackolicious" LOL!!!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif

Nubian 05-14-2001 06:32 PM

Am I wrong for clapping at her death scene??

Oh well, if it was wrong... I don't wanna be right. Around my way, we call girls like Carmen (as portrayed by Miss Beyonce) "Boppers".

Tamika

AlphaChiGirl 05-14-2001 06:49 PM

Okay...I didn't have the "pleasure" of watching the MTV take on "Carmen", but I'm not surprised it was bootleg. Why are they playing up Beyonce (what sort of name IS THAT?!)? Don't they see what happened to Brandy? Since MTV plays things millions and millions of times, I imagine I'll be seeing this "hunk of hot ghetto mess" at least once this summer.

Robert Townsend needs to STOP. Who keeps on supporting his bad film habit?

Steeltrap 05-14-2001 07:25 PM

Robert Townsend has made some good movies in the past, namely Hollywood Shuffle which had me LMAO back then.
I saw bits and pieces of Carmen, the Hiphopera. Maybe I'm too old, but I don't get Beyonce, but that's the hype.
Give me some good ol' mainstream jazz singing (Sarah Vaughan) any time.

CJUS 05-28-2001 02:42 PM

Well, I love musicals. I love the original version of Carmen. The hip-hopera of Carmen was good. It was bootlegged and thrown together, but it was good. Shoot, I don't even like Beyonce'. I fell out with her because she always leads the songs, the camera is always on her, and after watching the movie I finally saw that she was not cute. But she can sing. The group needs to come up with more mature songs. Now back to the movie. I was personally into Mos Def and Derrick (Lem) from Soul Food. Is he a rap artist? He did real good!!!
