Apt broken into

I really need some happy thoughts and positive vibes.

Went to an interview this afternoon, came back and my apt was broken into (side door kicked in). Pretty freaked out. They took my DVD/VCR, my digital camera, my wallet, and change. They just took change from my roommate. We're okay, just freaked out as all hell. Just feel very vulnerable. I'm kinda scared to go to bed..... since it happened i've had people here or been talking to people....

Peaches-n-Cream 02-09-2004 11:19 PM

I'm so sorry, kddani. I'm glad that you weren't home at the time. I'm sending some positive vibes and happy thoughts your way from the Big Apple. :)

sigtau305 02-09-2004 11:19 PM

I'm sorry about your apartment. I'm glad you are okay, buddy.

aephi alum 02-09-2004 11:28 PM

I'm sorry to hear it. :(

I'm sure you've contacted the police already. Get your credit cards cancelled. Stay with a friend tonight if you don't feel safe in your own place.

Take care. :)

I am so sorry-but glad you are ok.

rainbowbrightCS 02-10-2004 12:06 AM

I would be so afraid that I would be crying. How horrible.

ADPiSAI 02-10-2004 12:10 AM

one of the ones upstairs from us just got broken into last week. after that, the landlord *finally* put better locks on the building... I'm still freaked out though.

I'm glad there wasn't too much damage, and that nobody got hurt or anything!

ShaedyKD 02-10-2004 12:26 AM

Danielle, I'm so sorry to hear about this. My thoughts are with you, and I hope that the police find whoever did this. I'm sure you feel very violated, and that sucks they took your wallet and expensive electronics, but material things can be replaced. Thank God you and your roomie are safe!

Love & AOT,
Shae

P.S. I hope your interview went well!

33girl 02-10-2004 12:31 AM

OMG Danielle!!! What street are you on? (duh, you can PM me on that). Mr 33's car got broken into once when I lived over in Friendship and that was traumatizing enough. If you need anything just give me a call or an email.

Hootie 02-10-2004 12:35 AM

That blows! I'm glad you're okay! I know I would be feeling the same way as you if it happened to me :(

AchtungBaby80 02-10-2004 12:46 AM

How awful! Thank goodness you all weren't there. Sometimes I wonder what goes through peoples' minds...do they do this stuff because it's fun to them or because they're greedy, or what? I'd feel violated, too...and P.O.'d. I'm really sorry.

Sister Havana 02-10-2004 01:01 AM

That's horrible! Thank God you weren't there and that you are okay...I'd be freaking out too.

Rudey 02-10-2004 02:14 AM

Did they take your undies?

My house was broken into a month after i moved here in July of '98. They took my bracelets and expensive necklaces (yet left my rings and earrings), they took my favorite pair of panties (yet left the matching bra), and took my favorite hats. Nothing else was taken from my apartment/house but the guys that lived to my right had all their hunting riffles and knives stolen, and the girls that lived to my left had all of their panties stolen. The panty thief even dropped a pair of their panties in the back yard during the getaway. Needless to say the culprits were probably a couple of guys with atleast one girl with them.

The method of break in was a screwdriver to break open the lock on the back doors. Unfortunately for me, my back door happens to be in my bedroom, so for a long time i wouldnt sleep in there because I didnt feel safe. My dad then came and installed a peep hole in my front door, steel plates around the door knobs and locks so you cant break in like they did this last time, installed a burglar alarm, and motion lights in the back. My dog is more in tune now than she was when she was a puppy then and I think would attack someone she didnt know was supposed to be there that came in or if someone tried to hurt me or my sister.

just say the word and your oklahoma buddy will put some shi# kickin boots on and head your way to whoop some a$$ for you.

James 02-10-2004 11:46 PM

That totally sucks! But doesn't it sound suspiscious that your roomie lost only her change and you lost your life possessions?

Maybe it was an inside job . ..

Lol, there's no way in hell my roomie could kick in a door like that. Plus i've known her since she pledged, she's my little! She just really doesn't have much in the way of electronics.... the burglary squad is actually really on top of everything. There's been a rash of break ins in the area

_Opi_ 02-11-2004 12:41 PM

I know just how you feel kddani. I had my car broken into just the other day. They broke the window, took the stereo, and ate a freakn subway sandwhich in the car (those smug b*stards)!. Just be glad they didn't take too much stuff..or that you werent in the apt when this happened.

Lady Pi Phi 02-11-2004 01:03 PM

I am glad you're okay.

I know this isn't a very positive thing to say, but it's highly unlikely the police will ever find who did this. My house was broken into twice and the police told us that they get 80 break and enter calls a day.
They very rarely catch the people.
If you want your things things back you might try looking at local pawn shops/second hand shops to see if they have bought your things.
Do you have insurance?
The good news is that you're alright. Remeber things can be replaced. People can't.

It is funny that you say that because when I was in high school and our house got broken into they did go through my undies. Not sure if any were missing because I threw them all away. YUCK!

lol. No, worse! They ate their OWN sandwhich and left the trash.. trust me, here in detroit, you don't leave a penny in plain view because your windows will get busted. I know my car was CLEAN!...

Oh no! They are smug! At least throw out the trash, criminals!

I thought that you left a subway in your car, and someone broke in to eat it, lol!

That sucks Dani....

My best friend lived in N. Oakland and S. Oakland and had her apartments broken into 3 times. One of them took a pair of her underwear which isnt funny when you are a girl and you find out that the thief collected them!

I had two others that had their apartments broken into and the people stole over a 100 dollars in beef from one and at the other one they drank all of her beer and left the cans in the garbage!

Do you know where the robberies took place? Pm me.

If you need anything let me know!

KillarneyRose 02-20-2004 01:26 AM

Not to make light of Dani's situation (I hope they catch the thief and string him up by the nuggets), but I had to report on a rash of robberies lately in my neighborhood.

Lots of people have extra refrigerators or freezers in their garages and happen to leave their garage doors open during the day. Someone has been sneaking into the garages and stealing food and beverages from the coolers.

I witnessed this firsthand today when I went to borrow my friend's van and ran something over. I got out to check what was there and I had run over a big box or barbeque ribs that the thief apparently decided he didn't want.

What do you have in your fridge? And where do you live?
