Kenny Chesney

Hey guys I just bought the new Kenny Chesney cd last night "when the sun goes down" and on track #7 (a keg in the closet) he mentioned Lambda Chi and I thought it was cool.. I was driving and as soon as I heard it I called my best friend who is a Lambda Chi and told him about it.. I think he just thinks I am dorky but it was neat.. Just thought I would let you guys know that if you want to give it a listen. He also talks about Lambda Chi in the insert of the CD.

Shawnda

Shawndalynn 02-09-2004 11:41 PM

Well he talks about Lamba Chi in the insert of the CD which was good. And in the song the line is "This old guitar taught me how to score, right there on that Lambda Chi porch"
I am not sure if you consider that good or not but I thought it was neat because I have never heard him mention it in a song before.

Tom Earp 02-10-2004 01:20 AM

Hey Chipster, do you think he would sit and plunk a few with Doc, Jono and Mouse and maybe some of my guys Rams, Shawn, Phil, Roy Boy and make some music!:)

What a hoot that would be!;)

zetasigma955 02-10-2004 09:56 PM

if they only start playing that song on the radio.........

LXAAlum 02-11-2004 06:13 PM

Is Chesney an initiated brother? I though I saw another thread or maybe in the C&C that he was an associate member, but it isn't clear that he went through Ritual....

Just curious.

lifesaver 02-12-2004 12:25 AM

Yeah, Again, he is indeed a fully initiated member of the bond.

He was initiated into Iota Omicron Zeta (East Tennessee State University) in Johnson City, TN (About 75 miles NE of Knoxville and 45 miles west of Asheville, NC). He was ititiated about 1990 and I'll get his zeta number for ya'll. He never graduated ETSU, and left to make his mark in Nashville circa 1992. ETSU has since given him an honorary degree and he now does commercials for ETSU in the Johnson City area.

I have a friend who was a brother there at about the same time and Brother Chesney was his Kappa. Apparently the brothers also gave him much grief about his music, lol.

sx408 02-12-2004 02:44 AM

hmmm. Forgot he was one of us. And a Kappa too.

davelu99 02-12-2004 01:02 PM

Brother Chesney will be coming to Grand Rapids on April 1st to do a concert at Van Andel Arena. Several of the guys from Delta Theta Zeta at Grand Valley State are planning on going, and if any of you would like to come up for it, you'd be more than welcome. Tickets went on sale today, and we'll probably buy ours sometime next week. Let me know if you or any of your guys are interested!

Dave Luther

davelu99 02-12-2004 03:52 PM

Well, HQ added him to the website under "Famous Alumni" right next to John Tesh within the past few days, so I'm gonna assume that he's in good standing!

ZAX,

It is all good as far as I know. He left ETSU and the chapter to try his had at a music career in Nashville. Nashville and Johnson City are about 4 hours apart, so it would have been impossible for him to commute.

Also, its Lambda Chi HQ - even if it wasnt ok, they'd find a way to make it ok. Being the youngest of the big GLO's we have like 2 famous bothers (in pop culture) when other GLO'S have liek 10. Seriously, I'd never play the John Tesh card during recruitment when I was playing the "we have famous alumni too" game. Tesch gets you no street credibility. Sorry, but i'td be like claiming Yanni or something. Same with brother Yurich. Greeks of today would be like "Who is Spencer and why was he for hire?" The only two alums most of the current undergrads have heard of were Truman and Ben Bratt. Paul Harvey? Coem on, seriously. So I am real sure the gf would FIND a way to ride some of his celebrity.

chopper816 02-13-2004 03:22 AM

dude! the song keg in the closet is awesome! and he does mention the fraternity in the song, even if ya dont like country, we all can relate to the song b/c its about fraternity life and ours especially, so its a song that should have a special meaning for all of us

Hootie 02-16-2004 12:35 AM

I LOVE KENNY CHESNEY!!!!! :D
Just thought you all should pass that along to him ::Hootie nudges Lifesaver:: :p

lol. I'll see that the message is passed along, lol.

Also, the song is apparently the talk of 8741 Founders Road this week. While they dont condone kegs, privately they will tell you that they think its a pretty cool song.

Sometimes, ANY publicity is GOOD publicity, right? Since this isn't a news story about something stupid being done, it at least gets our name out in a "positive" manner...

It's better than Paul Harvey's occassional references to LXA on his show...though I do enjoy hearing him talk about fraternity life in general - he does it all too infrequently...

...and way better than anything John Tesh could do for us (like you or someone else said, it's like having Yanni endorse you....Yanni=YAWNI)...

sx408 02-16-2004 05:00 PM

i just listened to the song. i dont really like brother chesney's music that much but i have to admit i really like the song. i can identify w/ it as im sure we all can.

Tom Earp 02-16-2004 05:54 PM

Yep speaking of John T, emailed him and never got a reply!

Guess He is just Huge of a STAR!:(

He only had a slight mention in the NCS House Moms Book "How Did The Catsup Stain Get On The Ceilling"

Yep, if it is good plaudits, it is good! Interesting retrospect by lifesaver!:D

Guess I will have to get on LXA.ORG and check his Pix out!:)

ts1249 02-25-2004 01:09 AM

hey chip thought i'd let you know some of us know how to break the rules. i was up in omaha for the regional conference last weekend and heard "keg in the closet" and loved it. the great thing is is that i'm on the management staff for Drury University's radio station and am able to load music and put it into rotation. we have "keg in the closet" playing everyday.

Tom Earp 02-25-2004 10:05 AM

ts1249,
welcome to GC!:)

Any news about the SWMoU Zeta getting reinstated?

Billy, did one of my Guys Chad Neushwander ever get in contact with you?

boz130 02-25-2004 01:04 PM

Indy in his future?

At the 2002 General Assembly in Denver we had John Tesch present an award to one of his NC State brothers. It's not beyond the realm of possibility to imagine Mr. Chesney showing up this summer in July.

Those of us attending this weekend's High Pi Conference can check it out w/the IHQ mucky-mucks and report back next week.

ZAX,

ts1249 02-25-2004 03:47 PM

i believe SMS has a couple years before they are eligable for reinstatement. I think that they have to wait at least 4-5 years so i would guess around 2007.

Tom Earp 02-25-2004 04:04 PM

Never got thre full scoop on why they were closed but must have been bad enough to warrent it! Wonder what happened to the House?

You Know of course one of Your Brothers is H Pi, L C.

Also, Drury was the Chartering Team for LX Z, PSU!

Met your Then H A at a regioanl in K C some years back along with couple of others. Great Guys!:)

Dang, wish we would have another in KC area so I could go!

Have seen pictures of your well, new, house and looks great!

We demolished ours last Aug. with plans to build a new one, I hope!

I too would like to hear Brother Kenny C song just to see what it is all about!:D

boz130 02-25-2004 04:18 PM

Doh!!! It's John TESH, no "C".

ts1249 02-25-2004 05:41 PM

unfortunately they were closed for a lot of violations over a lot of years. at least that is what i gather from one of the guys from our house who was on sac and GHZ when they lost their charter. i was actually at the conference in KC in feb 2002. are you involved with one of the chapters up in that area? i was at william jewell on sunday actually, they have a beautiful house also.

Tom Earp 02-25-2004 06:09 PM

Oh hell, I probably met you then!:)

The High Alpha at the time had a Yellow Gold, pearls, Rubys with Diamond tipped in the Lambda! I was wearing one just like it!

I only made it up for the Banquet and when I was introduced, I was in the Toilet! Was sitting with the Guys From W-J! Yepper great House! Great Guys!

I need to get back up and see them as has been a while.. Also need to get over and see the Brothers at UMKC. Have been in touch with U. Ks and need to try to get over there this summer too!

Pitt St U, Ks, very involved, House Corp. Mentoring Member, Keeper of Email, New House Building group and Alum Alum Assoc!

Other than that, not much!:D

Dang, wish I had know you were there, could have run up to W-J and met you! Wasnt doing squat anyway!:(

Next time around The KC area, let me know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

KSZ1352 02-26-2004 03:16 PM

Although I'm sure you all have heard the song by now, just figured I'd post and let you know you can hear it free at the following site.
http://www.kchesney.net/keg.html

Tom Earp 02-26-2004 06:12 PM

Hey Bro. tried to get it up but kept acting like cut out and couldnt hear it!:(

I dont listen to Country, but for something from a Brother I damn sure would and push it!:D

How is the fight going with Alfred S**ts? Is it a SUNY or Private School? If part of SUNY system, I think they could have a Problem if is was pressed!

Of course, not sure what is in IHQ mind sometimes?

KSZ1352 02-26-2004 11:37 PM

Hmm, not sure what was wrong, might not come through well if you aren't on a high speed connection.

I am one of the guys that origionally restarted the alfred chapter, but have been away from the school for a while. It is a private school that has some ties to the state (I think part of the engineering school is state funded). I personally don't understand how a school can say you can't join a fraternity. If they said that someone couldn't join an outside organization, they would go against freedom of association.
Anyway, it seems to be official that IHQ has lost interest in us.. I looked on the national web site and we aren't there. After all this, I hate Alfred U. Only go to see some friends that are left.. Never gonna give them a dime unless they start the sytem up again, and never gonna go back after my people leave. No matter what, I always have my brothers from there and every other chapter. Alfred is dead to me, Lambda Chi lives on forever.

ZAX,
Oren

and sorry bout the rant

Tom Earp 02-27-2004 06:52 PM

Oren, could not agree with you more!

From some of the cuople of Brothers I talked to Screw job is a nice way of putting it!

If all of the Alums who were Greeks could coelate and discuss this, maybe, it would put preasrue on them, hey not get with it or no $$$$$!

TKN to LXA, a hell of a lot of History there!:)

Unfortunately, IHQ, will not do anything if the school will not go along! No matter what! So, The Brothers who have been there for years and could be there suffer.:(

You will always have Brothers no matter what!

Shawndalynn 02-29-2004 12:56 PM

Hey guys just wanted to let you know 96.7 a station out of Denton, TX put "Keg in a closet" into its rotation. I heard it this morning on the radio!!!

Unless thats a univ. requirement, the 4-5 year thing from HQ is COMPLETELY at their judgement. They say 4-5 years, but if its an incredible greek system that they wanna be in, it will be a lot shorter. Example - Alpha Mu at UT-Austin was only closed 9 months before they were recolonized.

Tom Earp 03-01-2004 04:01 PM

lifesaver, you are right!

U Mo. and U Ark are recolonized and do not think that they were closed down for for maybe 1-2 years! Schoool Status does have a big part in what happens!

ts1249, do you know the status of the SMS House????

Looked pretty sweet from the outside and closet to campus if I remember right!

Yep, am on land line hook up!

Tom Earp 03-02-2004 07:01 PM

Oh, Chipster, NICE PIC!:) Got from Jono!

If I had all of the stuff I have put up, it would be a good thing that I am Divorced!:D

Oh, did you ever know and H M Dodd at Lost Alamos?!;)

boz130 03-04-2004 09:02 AM

The 5-Year Rule

Hey, guys--from my experience w/Greek advisors, the "5-Year Rule" is designed to ensure that any members from a dormant chapter have left campus. They won't be "tempted" to hang out w/the new chapter.

Keep in mind the fact that many schools that have had Greek systems for 100+ years are also major partying grounds. The folks at IHQ tend to be selective in where they place chapters because there's too much chance that they won't get a "return on their investment" of time/effort/$$$.

That's probably why we're not at certain big schools, even though they may have over 30 fraternities & sororities. The universities that have the reputation for "livin' la vida loca" aren't exactly what Indy's looking for

I know of one major GLO that has 450+ chapters...unfortunately, 200+ of them have been closed for various reasons. Many never reopened after either WWII or Viet Nam, but I'd wager that a lot never came back because of risk management issues.

By the same token, it seems there are some colleges that want to totally disassociate themselves from the Greek experience. When their development officers figure out that 86% of the donors to alumni programs come from GLO's, they realize they've shot themselves in the foot by tossing all of their chapters off campus. By that time it's probably too late for them to recoup their donations.

That's not to say that the schools don't have reasons for losing the Greeks; liability insurance has skyrocketed over the last few years, so it's really a tough call.

Bottom line: if we live the Ritual and act as men, our chances of staying on a particular campus are greatly enhanced. On the flip side, if we jerk people (read: IHQ, university admin staff, etc.) around by flaunting rules/not filing paperwork/acting like idiots, we get the amount of respect we deserve: little or none.

ZAX,
Bill Foltz

One of our own!

Now, let me put this in about Bookums wife, she is a neat lady,, American Indian, Polock, and a bleached blonde Red Head! Guess that about says it all other than she and daughether or Kenney C Fans Big Time!:D

JonoBN41 03-09-2004 01:55 AM

"Heard the Keg CD and She is supposed to burn two for me! One to Jono who knows Bookum and talked to him tonight when I called him!"

First of all I already bought the CD. Second, I bought another to give to BN47.

Third, asking someone to "burn a CD" only screws the artist out of his money, and in this case it's a brother.

You might want to reconsider, Tom.

ZAX,
Jono
PS - You didn't buy one of my CDs either.

JoinerLxa 03-17-2004 06:20 PM

Just received the recent C&C.

Noticed there was an article on Chesney, and how his
college and LXA experience provided inspiration for
many of his songs.

Interestingly enough, there was no mention of the
ONE song which mentions LXA directly (that I know
of, anyway)...."Keg in my Closet".

Looks like Risk Management and Political Correctness
wins again! (Not that I disagree!)

Ramblin' thought

Tom Earp 03-20-2004 10:46 AM

Brother Chesney update:

He is on the cover of USAweekend with article:cool:
