Remembering the times....
What is your favorite Good Times episode?
99% of us grew up watching it. I still watch it everyday at 5 pm. One of my favorites is when Penny's mom (Ms. Gordon)hires that guy to go out with Wilona and buy Penny all those gifts, then sets Wilona up with a party with all those freaks and weirdos.... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif Penny: (after Wilona discovers that Penny tapes her confrontation with Ms. Gordon...) "I don't care what you say, I don't care what she says, I don't care what anyone says (sniff, sniff) you're always gonna be my (sniff, cry harder) my momma..." (Penny clings to Wilona with tape recorder in her hand) (audience applause to fade) I LOVE IT! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif I can do that ENTIRE confrontation scene like I was there! |
I loved it when James died and Florida didn't show any signs of grief until she dropped the punch bowl......."DAYUM, DAYUM, DAYUM!!!"
I also remember the episode when the girl J.J was head over heels for was giving him ulcers. [This message has been edited by exquizit (edited May 02, 2001).] |
I love ANY episode with "SWEET LENNY"
"Don't waste your money at JC Penny, you can get it right here from SWEET LENNY, if I aint go it, than it aint ANY!" He was the coolest boot-legg product selling, fur coat wearing, cat on the street! I think he had a "pimps perm" too! |
OOOOO Girl you have me LMAO over here!! I remember Lenny....Can't you just see him throwing his coat open showing all his gold chaind and watches? LOL http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
|
I can't remember specific lines but I remember the prom episode where JJ took Debbie ALLEN http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif to the prom and she was a HEROIN ADDICT. Remember that one??
*singing** Remember the times, when we fell in love. . . DO YOU REMEMBER GIRL, you and ME, . . . WHAT ABOUT US GIRL!! That was one of my fave MJ songs and videos. ------------------ He who asks questions cannot avoid the answers. Rain does not fall on one roof alone. Words are like eggs: when they are hatched they have wings. Advise and counsel him; if he does not listen, let adversity teach him. What one hopes for is always better than what one has. |
Besides when JJ was saying DY-NO-MITE, Thelma was my favorite character.
She inspired me many times. There was one episode where she was about to get kicked out of school for standing up to the administration. That almost got me in trouble too. I also remeber the episode when Thelma thought she was about to marry that African. She changed her name, her hair, her clothes, and her mind with the quickness when she found out what he was all about. Thelma is also the reason I wasn't afraid to rock the afro puff. She always made it look so nice. Who remembers the words to the song? |
here ya go....
everybody sing together.... Good Times. Any time you meet a payment. Good Times. Any time you need a friend. Good Times. Any time you're out from under. Not getting hastled, not getting hustled. Keepin' your head above water, Making a wave when you can. Temporary lay offs. Good Times. Easy credit rip offs. Good Times. Scratchin' and surviving. Good Times. Hangin in a chow line Good Times. Ain't we lucky we got 'em Good Times. the lyrics queen..... |
One of my FAVORITE shows! Unfortunately I don't have cable so I don't get to watch it now. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif
I liked the entire series of episodes that led to Wilona adopting Penny. The scene where Wilona found the hot iron burn on Penny's back had me in tears. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif Has anybody else noticed that the Evans' ate a whoooole lot of oatmeal? Also, I don't know how it was back then but in the 'hood we locked our doors. Maybe Wilona had a key but they never really showed it. I also don't know how they lived that high up and had to either walk or take the elevator in that FILTHY building. I guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do... ------------------ MCCOYRED Mu Psi '86 BaltCo Alumnae Dynamic...Salient...Temperate...Since 1913 |
MaMaBuddha:
What's a Chow line?? Ok, my favorite episode was the one when Florida and Wilona were arguing because Penny had questions about the birds and the bees and Wilona didn't want to talk to her about it, and Florida felt like Penny was old enough to know. Florida told Wilona: "Old woman living in a shoe...got ONE child and don't know what to do!" I thought that had to be the biggest put down ever! |
Convinced:
chow line....i've never thought it before....but when i asked Big PoppaBuddha, he said it was the cheese line (welfare line) where you got a meal fo' free. |

There are so many episodes I like. I remember telling people "boy" is a white racist word (courtsey of the "militant midget"). Thelma and Keith's wedding with Michael singing. JJ going to the STD clinic. The time when Michael brought a friend over to study and James beat him down... |
I'm a Good Times fanatic (bought the tape they were selling on TV). Anyway, my favorite one is where they find out that their friend has been eating dog food and she makes them the meat loaf (I always crack up on that one!) Here's some others that stick out in my mind:
1) When the Evan's were about to get evicted and JJ comes up with a scam where Thelma has to say "Oh my, I'm so hungry, I think I'm going to faint!" 2) Any episode where JJ mentioned that he would just fiiiinnnnd things. 3) The episode where James is going to shoot pool to save the family (same one as #1) and when Florida stands in front the door, he moves her. She says "D___, that man always could move me!" |

My favorite is when Florida had Larry, one of the boys from her bus come over and they find out he can't hear and he almost falls down the elevator shaft. I also liked the one where everyone thought Fishbone was dead and he went to his own funeral dresed as a woman in grief. The one with the dog food always tickles me when J.J. starts prayer with " The Lord is my German Shepherd". I can still hear the closing song "Just looking out of the window, watching the asphalt road.... Y'all know the rest.
|
My favorite is when Gary Coleman was one of the children on Florida's schoolbus and he came to visit her. She had snooty guests visiting (I dont' remember why), and Little Arnold snatched the snooty lady's wig off. Every time I see that one I
holler! Boy this thread brought up favorites episodes that I forgot I even had http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |

Here's some others that stick out in my mind: That was THE funniest episode ever!!! I laughed soooo hard when they were fighting over who got the last seat at the table. And when the lady said something like "Well if no one wants to eat my meatloaf...I'll just leave" And JJ was like "BYE!!!" OH MY GOODNESS...that HAD to be the best episode I've seen! |
I always like the episodes with Gary Coleman. Like the time he was supposed to be a sheep in the school play and he said, "I may be a sheep, but I ain't eating no grass mama!"
Remember the episode about Larry and the elevator shaft. He was the boy who was losing his hearing and Florida realized it before his mother. His momma played Myra (with the bad feet) on Martin. My favorite line was when she told Florida, "I don't need no bus driver to tell me how to raise my child." What killed me about that show was that they were broke as hell and Florida would always say, "but that ain't honest James." [This message has been edited by Total Elegance (edited May 03, 2001).] |
Okay ya'll I'm young, so I remember the reruns... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
"Chow line" I always thought they said, "hanging in the ghetto"???? My favorite good times episode (even though I'm more of a "Sanford and Son" type of lady) is when JJ wants the job promotion and has the dream that he becomes white, and starts dressing different and acting different... Another favorite episode of mine is when the two white cops go to their house becase their cousin stole some money and was wanted...the cops were so scared to be in the projects..I was LMAO... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Oh, and Good Times was supposed to be based in my home town...Chicago...last time I was home, they were still tearing down the "ghettos in the sky,"... ------------------ "I am not yet the author of my life; I am still it's unenlightened protagonist" ---Unknown [This message has been edited by jali0004 (edited May 03, 2001).] |
remember when Micheal wanted to move closer to campus with his white friend and her parents came by and tried to act "down"? lol

I'm really loving this topic!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
I'm young also, but I am a re-run freak! I remember the episode when James was trying to show his wife that God had no place in some topic they were discussing and he stood on a chair in the kitchen to count down the seconds until God would MAKE something happen and his watch stopped working. I thought that was a powerful episode. Oh yeah, I heard that "JJ" couldn't read that well (in real life). What's up with that? *I Got My Pearls* |
I love Good Times!
Remember the episode where Thelma was getting married to the football player and as the guy was coming down the aisle either JJ or Michael tripped him accidently and he broke his leg? (It ended his career.) And what about when the old man came to their apartment and he kept insisting that he was going to die before midnight (or something like that)....anyway, midnight came and he was still alive so everyone started dancing around and celebrating. It wasn't until Thelma looked over at him for everyone to notice that he had died. I'll be back when I think of some more http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
Remember the "Black Jesus" episode?
the Fly Girl episode? Where the handicapped girl and Micheal were CB buddies... Sweet Daddy Williams and his girlfriend (I forgot her name, but she was ALSO, Myra from Martin and Larry's (deaf boy) mother.... JJ's friends the "Awesome 4-some" JJ, Papo, Coolbreeze, Head... then, it became the something 3-some later on... when JJ got shot because he got caught by James and Florida and James tried to get JJ to leave with them... |
Thanks, that makes sense!
|
JJ, Poppo, CoolBreeze and Head
will be the AWESOME FAWSOME 'til we are dead! JJ, Poppo and Cool Head will be the Leesome Threesome 'til we are dead! Quote:

AKA2D'91, I almost forgot about Savannah Morgan, Sweet Daddy's girl. Remember that time when she was in a car accident with Keith's taxi and J. J. was the only witness and Sweets was pressuring him to lie?
|
How about the time Sweet Daddy hired JJ to paint a portrait of his girl, Savannah Morgan and when Sweet Daddy saw it, he really liked it. But when Savannah saw it, she said "That don't look nothin' like me"! Then Sweet Daddy started acting like he didn't like it either and refused to pay JJ.
Or..... When Shirley from What's Happening and her sister held up the Evans family + Wilona. They made Florida go cash some kind of check.Back at the crib, Shirley's sister went through Wilona's purse and sprayed on some of her perfume. When Wilona tried to tell the girl that she was going to jail, the girl just said, "At least I'll smell rich". What an IDIDOT!!! Or.... When Florida's fine nephew (Pookie) came to town, showering everyone with gifts. Then come to find out he was a gambling addict. What was his real name? He was alllllll that! Or..... Remember that architect dude that Wilona was engaged to? He was fine too. I saw a picture of Thelma's ex-husband in Ebony one month, and he looks really good too. They have a pretty daughter. So much for the trip down memory lane. ------------------ "22 Resurrected Jewels of DiSTinction" Gamma Pi '01 Columbia College 4/12/01 |
I am watching it now....it is "chow line"... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif Ya learn something new everyday!
What was that singing telegram "Pookie" sent right before he came to the apartment? Remember when Wilona's ex (Ray) came on to Thelma? |
Hey y'all, remember when their cousin Naomi came to visit for Thanksgiving and she turned out to be serious alcoholic? (I think she was shooting dope as well)
What about the time Florida bought the roast beef from the market and the whole family got sick? The manager of the store knew the meat was bad and James ended up blackmailing him into eating the beef. Remember when Thelma was dating the African exchange student and was about to marry him until she realized she wasn't going to be his only wife? |
Quote:
Remember the one where Thelma wanted to get married to this dude that was studying to be a mechanic? And JJ stood up to his pops for the first time to side with Thelma? She sure did want to get married quite a bit. |
Since there are so mant Good Times fans out there could you please help me with this question: Florida came back for Thelma's wedding, but why didn't she go back to her new husband Carl after it was over? I know she stayed a while to help Keith recover, but you never hear Carl mentioned again.

What memories...I too, am a HUGE Good Times fan. It comes on here at 11pm.
Does anyone remember... The talent show they had to raise money for the rent of one of the tenants (was it Myra??..I'm not sure) anyway, remember Michael sang "When You're Young & in Love" and remember The Supremes..Thelma, Wilona and "non-singing" Florida. Remember when JJ got shot by MadDog and James went to court with pretzels..snapping them in half to represent MadDog's trigger finger. Oh, yeah..remember Ned the Wino...remember when Florida won the "best apartment (or something like that) contest because the Evans cleaned up Ned and he was the husband of one of the judges. Ned had that ridiculous grin on his face until his wife told him they were going home. One more thing..remember the "Black Jesus" episode. Sooo many memories!! |

However Savannah's famous line when she saw the picture was "Who is that?!", "That ain't hardly me!"... and when Savannah was about to leave and she called JJ a "jive turkey" and James called her "stank" TOO FUNNY!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Also, when they brought a new stero and it made the power go out everytime they played it...I am ROTFL now thinking about how Thelma and JJ was dancing. This was this episode when Florida's nephew, Cletis, was on the run from the FBI and he held Michael at gun point. |

Also, when he was about to propose to Flo, he took the kids out to the Burger Hut to ask them. Right before he does, he finds out he has Cancer. Then Nathan, Bookman, Buffalo Butt, tells Carl that he too had Cancer and had survived, yada yada yada... Now, do you remember Carl? |

" Ooh you can tell he's an artist. He looks like he's starving!" I crack up every time I hear that. |
I too am a BIG Good Times fan. Hey do you remember Balderman Davis and how he never could get Wilona's name right?
