Phi Mu Tragedy :(
I received this email from a sister on the email list I run. This weekend was the first of the Leadership Conferences...I am assuming it was to the Pittsburgh LC they were traveling.
Three members of Delta Tau chapter at the University of Western KY were killed in a car wreck and two others are in the hospital. They were on their way to state day and roads were icy. All I know now. Will send more when I know. My prayers are with our sisters at the chapter..and with the familys and loved ones of "those we have loved and lost" and those who are injured. |
My thoughts and prayers are with all of the sisters and family members that this has affected :(

Tragic news...so very sad.

My sincerest sympathy for all of the Phi Mu family, and the families of the young women involved. May the injured have a speedy and perfect recovery.

My deepest sympathies to all the Phi Mu sisters and the families and friends left behind.
Last year, Alpha Gam lost three sisters and had another two sisters hospitalized due to arson in Ohio. This awful news brings back terrible memories. Believe me when I tell you that Alpha Gams everywhere understand your grief, and we support and are praying for you. |
My deepest sympanthies to their family and sisters.
I saw a report on it on local news. They had a brief statement from a Phi Mu spokesman in front of their nationals saying how sadden Phi Mu's everywhere are and how they will work with the sisters of the chapter to help them through the tradgity. |
OUr deepest sympathies from Alpha Delta Pi - Beta Theta in Canada. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the families.

Their adviser and our adviser are good friends. It really wakes you up to how short life is, and to make everyday count. Oh and the SAE's were affected too, one of the girls was also the little sister of an SAE here at TnTech.
|
Just makes me want to cry. I don't know how their chapter sisters will manage. Sounds like we lost some great girls.

Update
Update of information about Delta Tau chapter's loss
From Shellye M of Phi Mu Foundation I have just spoken with Margo Grace, VP Foundation, and one of the chapter advisers for Delta Tau at WKU who is in Bowling Green with the chapter now. Kathy Williams, National President, and Jenn Wooley, Executive Director, are also with the chapter. Funerals for the two young women from the Nashville area will be Tuesday afternoon. The parents have coordinated the times so that the chapter members will only have to make one trip. Nashville is an hour to an hour and a half from Bowling Green, KY. Arrangements are incomplete for the young woman from Kentucky. Margo agreed with me that if people want to do something in memory of these women that they send a contribution to Phi Mu Foundation and request that the money be set aside until it is determined what would be the best memorial for them. The chapter is doing as well as could be expected. The advisers and the national fraternity, the university and the rest of the Greek system on campus are giving support to our women. Please keep the chapter members, advisers and especially the families of these young women in your thoughts and prayers. Shellye McCarty Alpha Delta VP Donor Relations PM Foundation |
I don't know what I would do if that happened to me...I will send up a prayer intention tonight at chapter for their family, friends, and their sisters.

I'm so sorry to hear about the deaths of those women, it broke my heart to read a story like that. :(
|
This must be so hard. We lost a sister in a car accident my sophomore year during rush. Our chapter was devastated.
My thoughts and prayers go out to them. Isn't their a Phi Mu from that chapter active on GC? |
The AOIIs last night prayed for their chapter, family, and friends. I am still sad about this. It really does make you thank God for your life everyday because you never know...
|
when i heard about this, i was absoultely lost for words. these are three ladies from my school, and it is so sad.
i did not know these ladies, but one of our new girls was roommates with one of the survivors and had classes with the other girls who passed away. western's greek system is a pretty tight knit group, so this affects a lot of people. this is a horrible incident and i offer my sincere condolences for all Phi Mu's..... :( my thoughts and prayers are with everyone coping with this terrible accident. |

I am sorry for your loss. I knew one of the girls, Rachel, as she grew up in the church I attended here in Nashville. I send my condolences to all the sisters at Western and I know it is a loss for the Sorority. Your support as a sisterhood has helped during this time. I pray for your chapter during this time of healing.

In Memoriam
From my 1932 "Songs of Phi Mu" book:
In Memoriam by Marguerite Thompson Stewart, Upsilon Delta In sorrow, Lord, we are united here, In grief for one e'er loyal to our Bond. In rev'rence deep, in sympathy sincere, With hearts bowed low, together here we stand. O God, we ask Thy mercy and Thy love, To bear our grief and turn it into song. Oh, lead us yet, and grant us there above These friends so true, these fellowships so strong. I've written an email to my chapter about this tragedy and today I received the letter from our national president. I hope the families and friends are doing alright and know that as the month goes by, we will continue to keep their girls in our thoughts are prayers. LIOB, Nu President |
In honor of our late sisters, Rho Beta declared this week to be Badge Week. Our president made pink and black ribbons with Delta Tau written on them.
If any of you girls are out there--- we're thinking of you and we love you! |
i thought this was a very nice article about how Western's Phi Mu chapter is dealing with this horrible event.
still daily praying for Phi Mu.....grow together through this tragedy. sounds like that's how these ladies would want it. Click here for the article from our school's paper. |
Wow, this is so amazing to see how many people have writen. I am sure that their families truely app. it. One of the girls that died was an SAE's little sister. I went to the funneral. It was a 3hour wait for visitation. They has people lined up down the street in the rain. 98 Phi Mus from western were there. They even had a Phi Mu room set aside. Our national President was there consouling the girls even with her mother very ill. There was so many pink carnations in the church it was unreal. Thanks for all the love and support that you have shown their chapter and their families. We truely share an important bond.
|
I would just like to send our deepest sympathies to the sisters of the Delta Tau chapter. I know that sisters of Phi Mu everywhere are praying for all of you. I certainly will continue to pray for your chapter as you all are grieving the loss of your precious sisters.
