List all the Dangles

OK, I am curious about dangles. Which ones do y'all wear. I saw some ridiculous ones here. Anyone want a sportswear chair dangle? In the shape of a t-shirt?

I know Pi Phi has specific ones that they sell for us, but there aren't very many.

Oh--and for chapters that do a scholarship dangle, what is the requirement for it?

RedRoseSAI 02-04-2004 12:56 PM

The only dangle I wear is a "100" to mark our centennial. I've seen some people wear dangles for every office they've held, though. IMHO, having all that takes away from the beauty of our badge.

I have one of those 100 dangles too! :D My province officer bought everyone in the province one at convention...well there were only like 5 of us. :)

I don't mind several guards/dangles. All I currently have is the one for our chapter, but I would like to get the ones for the offices I've held (VP Membership for 2 years, and I was also Secretary for a year).

xok85xo 02-04-2004 01:47 PM

scholarship (3.0 and above) - we used the owl dangle for this
historian
crest
star of david
big sister

PsychTau 02-04-2004 01:53 PM

Have you noticed that a lot of those dangles are actually symbols for the NPC sororities? Some are probably fraternity symbols too, but I didn't look at all of them that closely and I don't recognize all the fraternity symbols like I do the sororities.

I don't have any dangles. I ordered a chapter guard, but once I got it I decided I didn't like it...For some reason I like the simplicity of just our badge without all kinds of stuff on/around it. If I did order dangles, it would be a boatload, though.

ADPiAkron 02-04-2004 02:11 PM

On my badge I have the following dangles:

Formal Recruitment Chair
Recruitment Vice President
Pride Leader
Panhellenic Council Officer
Diamond Sister (Big Sister)
Scholarship Pearl (3.5 and higher)
District Leadership Conference (attended)
Alumnae Association President
150th Anniversary

I was looking over our website for all of the dangles available to ADPi and found website manager! So add that one to the list too!!

AUDeltaGam 02-04-2004 02:38 PM

On my badge I have

Colonizing Member
Honor Board
Director of Social Awareness

sairose 02-04-2004 02:44 PM

I forgot I also have a Convention dangle, since I was a chapter delegate to our national convention this summer. :D

SigK_Bama 02-04-2004 02:56 PM

I have President, Recording Secretary, Activities, Intramurals, and an "1874" dangle which represents our Foundation fundraising group. If a collegiate donates $18.74 (the year we were founded) to the Foundation, then we get that dangle. I think it's pretty cool, it's unique.

nauadpi 02-04-2004 03:15 PM

Let's see what all is hanging off of my guard:

-Scholarship Chair
-Diamond Sister
-Webmaster
-Scholarship (3.5 or up)
-150 years

I still need to buy:
-Recruitment Information Manager

In addition under my pin I usually wear:
-jewel degree pin (alumnae ceremony of adpi)
-Order of Omega pin

and I have other pins but I usually don't wear more than that at once...

DolphinChicaDDD 02-04-2004 03:21 PM

As far as I know, Tri Delta has no dangles. I don't know anyone who has one...I'm not sure if we can have any. I only know about using the Trident as a guard or a chapter guard.

Any other Deltas know differently?

OleMissGlitter 02-04-2004 03:29 PM

We don't use dangles on our badge because our founders felt our badge and the meaning could stand alone. However, we do sell the charms for bracelet and I have the following:
Big Sis Charm--which is two hearts overlapping
Alumna Charm--Which is an anchor charm
Advisor Leadership Charm--which is a wing
Committee Member Charm--which is a dagger
Sisterhood Charm--which is a solid heart
Web Master Leadership Charm--which is a little world with WWW on it

AOII Charms

I love the way other sororities put dangles by their badges. It is very pretty.

I'm pretty sure you're right -- I don't know anybody who has any either.

I *LIKE* this idea of a charm bracelet for "dangles". Over the last 10 or so conventions, Phi Mu has had charms as the Carnation Banquet table favor, so I have a nice convention charm bracelet.

Phi Mu has dangles. Frankly, I have seen some badges with so many dangles that I wonder how the sister stands upright :)! (traditional to keep all the dangles for everything you have ever served etc on the badge)

I have dangles for all my officer positions (and there are many) from my collegiate and alum positions. I only wear however my "150" (for 150 years) now.

WhiteDaisy128 02-04-2004 03:53 PM

Our scholarship lamp of knowledge is given by nations for 4.0 GPA's.

On my badge, I wear:
Colonizing Member
Lamp of Knowledge
Director of E-Communications

honeychile 02-04-2004 03:57 PM

One of the most interesting pins I've ever seen was worn by a district officer of Alpha Phi. She had every dangle that she was entitled to wear, and had them each placed individually on the links of the chain, instead of having them "droop". When I complimented her, she said that she wears her pin almost daily, and people always comment favorably over it!

I have never ordered 1/10th of the dangles that I can wear, but lately, I've been wanting to do so. I hadn't heard that there was a 150th dangle available to Alpha Delta Pis (and Phi Mus, too, I would assume!), but that just firms my resolve!

CardinalSM 02-04-2004 04:09 PM

Is it tradition in many sororities/chapters to only wear the dangles of the last office you held? My mom is a ZTA and when she wears her badge, she only wears her VP, new member educator, and panhellenic VP dangles, because she held all 3 of those offices simultaneously her last year active. She says she has other dangles, but it was tradition to only wear the last ones. Just wondering :)

princessnerdy 02-04-2004 04:14 PM

For us, most people wear all the dangles for all the offices they have held. we don't have a tradition to wear ones when you were an active in college because we have dangles for when you are an alumnae too.

Our 150th is a "150" centered in a quatrefoil shape (like our badge)

Well, not for SAI. I know of many sisters who wear every guard/dangle they are entitled to wear, including all offices they've held.

Peaches-n-Cream 02-04-2004 05:47 PM

This is a little off topic, but does anyone know where to purchase a chapter guard? I wanted one in college, but it was too expensive for me then.

In my chapter people wore as many dangles as positions they had.

Tom Earp 02-04-2004 05:49 PM

Way to go WhiteDaisey, are you trying to be a smart Ass??? :D

LXA does list Dangles on our web site, I dont have any! I wasnt anything:(

But it always amazed me when I saw people with dangles, they all hung at the bottom of the Guard Chain and couldnt tell them apart!

OOOOW Ego Tripping!:D

Sorry, had to just toss that in! My Bad!

alsparky 02-04-2004 06:11 PM

Peaches-n-Cream,

You can get a chapter guard from Legacy/Masters Of Design (www.mastersofdesign.com) or from most online greek stores. Some Greek Stores may carry them, too....

Allison

astroAPhi 02-04-2004 06:46 PM

I got a chapter guard from alphagold.com. It's very nice. :)

I have:
Athletics Chair
Historian
Chaplain (or Master of Ritual)

I can also get (and will at some point):
Big Sister
Guard
Director of Music

sueali 02-04-2004 06:49 PM

I have an
1874
convention
VP Scholarship
Recording Secretary
and
Scholarship (3.5 and higher)

Peaches-n-Cream 02-04-2004 07:02 PM

Thanks Allison & astroAPhi! :D You're helping me spend some hard earned money, lol. :p

EEKappa 02-04-2004 07:19 PM

Doesn't it seem that wearing dangles and chapter guards is somewhat of a chapter-specific practice?

After wearing all my collegiate officer dangles for years, I finally took them off. I guess I got tired of explaining what they were to other alumnae! (And as they say, "nothing withers faster than a laurel rested upon.") I still have the chapter guard attached, since I like to distinguish my chapter at alumnae and fraternity functions. I've seen alumnae have chapter guards made into charm bracelet charms, which is cute!

ASTLuv21 02-04-2004 07:20 PM

As of right now I have a scholorship dangle (3.5+) and its of a pearl. I still need to get my chapter gaurd tho so I can wear it. I also have a buttload of positions to get!

Tippiechick 02-04-2004 07:40 PM

I have held offices, but I like the badge to be the center of attention. IMO, it's the badge that should be the focus, not my accomplishments.

I do know sisters that have worn dangles. But, most have only worn one so that it doesn't look too "busy".

AGDAlum 02-04-2004 07:51 PM

AFAIK, Alpha Gam has dangles only for collegiate offices (the standard-issue variety in the jeweler's catalog) and a dangle for International Council officers. Charms are issued for some special occasions.

The dangles and chapter-letter guard are removed when an alumna receives one of the Honors of Epsilon Pi. (About which I will begin a new thread...stay tuned.)

AGDee 02-04-2004 07:55 PM

There's also the relatively new "Heart of Alpha Gamma Delta" dangle that alumnae chapters/clubs can award to any alumnae which can be worn with one of the Honors. IC wears their dangle with their Honor too.

Yes, I forgot to say that International Council members have a special dangle. It's three annulets on a bend, per our coat of arms. (=three rings on a rectangle)

aephi alum 02-04-2004 08:16 PM

If I wore all the dangles I'm entitled to, I wouldn't be able to stand upright. :)

I only got the dangles for Panhellenic Representative (because it's the highest office I held) and Ritualist (because it was the most meaningful office to me).

I would have gotten webmaster too, but I don't think a webmaster dangle existed back then. The Web barely existed. :p

hannahgirl 02-04-2004 10:43 PM

I don't own any dangles yet....(basically because I'm poor and have no money to get all of them) but I would have:

VP Membership
VP Member Education
Honor Board
Big Sis (I'd have that one 4 times if I needed to get one for each)
Panhellenic Council Member
Scholarship Pearl
...and i think a couple more but i can't think of them off the top of my head right now.

I'm working on the Lamp of Knowledge (like whitedaisy said it is for 4.0 members) since this is my last semester to get it and I've missed it the past couple times because of our stupid plus and minus system.....

KillarneyRose 02-04-2004 11:19 PM

I still wear all of my dangles with my Badge:

Recording Secretary
Panhellenic Representative
2 Scholarship Pearls (4.0)
2 Big Sister
Alumnae Relations Chair
Public Relations Chair
Social Cair
Scholarship Chair

PrincessHeather 02-04-2004 11:56 PM

I have a question? do you have to buy your own dangles or does your chapter buy them?

My chapter buys each incoming Eboard Officer her Dangle. Each committee head, has to buy her own; if she chooses to buy one.

On my campus we are the only GLO that wears a chapter guard and dangles. I can't remember if nearby phi sig chapters wear theirs. *paging Glitter650* But I do know some chapters that don't wear chapter guards. Our chapter orders them with our jeweled badge.

on my badge I have each dangle on a link of the chain instead of the "droopy" effect. I get compliments on it all the time.

Here's what is on mine:
Marshall dangle
MRC= recruitment dangle
Bursar= treasurer key
Archon's gavel= president's gavel
Parent's Club Committee Head

I wasn't going to get the Parent's Club dangle but the dangle is two connecting hearts. super cute. I love it.

I'm still waiting for my big sis dangle and PR dangle

and I also have my Rose Bud Society Pin that I wear underneath my badge. Its a red rose pin and its for members who donate to foundation. my first payment was $20. This year I will pay $25 or something like that, and one last payment next year. But I can keep going so I can get more (i.e. really pretty) pins.

AchtungBaby80 02-05-2004 12:05 AM

We bought our own dangles in my chapter, so it's good that I'm more of an Indian than a chief...I only have 4 dangles on my guard. :p I have:

*Member-At-Large
*Big Sis
*Guard
*Scholarship (4.0) Pearl...I only ended up buying one of those, because they're sort of big

I was a delegate on a Panhellenic Committee one year, but I'm not really sure if they make a dangle for that. Also, to the DZs--do we need to belong to an actual alum chapter to get the alum dangle? Some of our alums have it, but they're not really active in the local chapter.

GPhiBLtColonel 02-05-2004 01:31 AM

I wear my dangles in the droopy way and never thought of having one dangle per chain link -- I may have to get that done!

I need to update my dangles but I have 2 alumnae chapter president dangles (I need two more) and 2 convention dangles. I need Alumnae Panhellenic Representative, Alumnae Corresponding Secretary, Alumnae Communications, Alumnae Publicity, and several more...

I like wearing my chapter guard - because it holds the dangles ;) and so others know what chapter I am from.

Nope, you don't need to belong to an alum chapter to wear the dangle :)

phisigduchesscv 02-05-2004 02:11 AM

My chapter of Phi Sig is like PrincessHeathers. We have our chapter guard and do wear our dangles on them. Most of the sisters who have dangles let them all bunch on the bottom. I prefer to have them on individual links so that they can be seen better.

The dangles I have are

Founding Chapter sister
Membership Orientation Chair (Now sisterhood development)
Archons gavel
Webmistress
Scholarship pearl - must be junior or higher with 2 consecutive semesters of 3.5 or higher gpa
Alumnae Chair
Convention dangle
Leadership for attending Leadership training school
I will be getting the Scribe's dangle at the end of my term
Hopefully one of my Sapphire Sisters will get me the Sapphire Sister dangle

Carolyn
