Spring Break Thread!!

Last week, I looked at the calender and realized that my spring break is in about a month... I've decided to go to Barcelona... it's got a good mix of everything.... beach, city, etc. I found a flight today for $380 rt through Orbitz (do you believe that??)
Still looking for a hotel though....

Anyone else made their spring break plans??? Who are you booking through??

GeekyPenguin 01-30-2004 04:04 PM

I've heard bad things about Orbitz.

I'm going to Washington, D.C., to tour schools and do the standard touristy thing.

xok85xo 01-30-2004 04:07 PM

yeah, orbitz sucks. try travelocity.

wreckingcrew 01-30-2004 04:09 PM

I've used orbitz a lot and never had any problems.

I bought my ticket to Texas for Chilifest for about $330.

I use it for hotel reservations a lot as well.

Oh, I envy you. You can try to join the International Hostel Association, and get the housing in pretty much everywhere for cheap (around 20 bucks/night). I wish I had the opportunity to visit Barcelona when I was studying abroad in Rome .. don't forget to visit the Familia Sagrada church, and Bilbao - the house of the famous Guggenheim Museum
(well, there are five of them in the world, and Bilbao is one of them, the other four is in New York, Las Vegas, Venice, Berlin).

Have fun!

Have fun in DC (which is where I am) :) There's plenty to do, plenty to see, though its freezing here right now. If you need any suggestions for places to eat, places to hang out, etc. feel free to ask... i'm sure you're well aware of all the museums, monuments, etc. in the area.

astroAPhi 02-03-2004 05:48 PM

I'm going to Hilton Head Island, SC. Yeah I know I'm a Floridian, so I'm supposed to go somewhere warmer, but it was free (boyfriend's mommy has a timeshare!).

Thanks! A friend-of-some-friends went to GWU and works for a Senator now so I am hoping he'll give me some suggestions too.

What is all this bad talk about orbitz? What problems have you all had/heard about? I booked my spring break flights through them and am hoping I don't have any problems.

i have no problem with orbitz, actually..i was being facetious..its the stealth marketers that work for orbitz and do nothing but namedrop orbitz that i really hate. :)

I graduated in December so I don't get Spring Break anymore!!!Booooo!!! :(

However, I do get one week off after the bar exam before I start work on March 8. I guess that's kind of like spring break, except I REALLY will be out of money in a month. So unless I plan on hitchhiking to Key West, I'll just have to make do with the pools at my apartment complex.

But I do have one thing going for me - I agreed to start work earlier (originally supposed to take 2-3 weeks off after the bar) in exchange for a week vacation in August. One of my best friends graduates in May and will be starting work for our firm in September, so in August we can take a trip together and I will have $$$ by then!

I am very proud of my vacation-negotiation skills. Anyone who knows anything about first year associates at law firms knows you don't usually get them to let you have a whole week off during your first year. I seriously didn't think I would get it, but I just figured it wouldn't hurt to ask, and I lucked out!

I hope there's still snow! I live not very far from Copper Mountain and have been meaning to go skiing but haven't gotten around to it yet...

Peaches-n-Cream 02-08-2004 12:52 AM

I am going on a cruise from 2/15 to 2/22. We're leaving from NYC, staying in Florida, and then onto the Bahamas. :D I am so excited!

oceanphi01 02-08-2004 10:50 AM

Our spring break is March 1-5. I'm going to Key West for the first time ever as my last spring break ever for the last part of the week. It was $131 for 3 nights!!!!! Woohoo!!!!

Kevin 02-08-2004 12:12 PM

Not sure... Hopefully can go on a road trip.

We'll see though.

It'll be something spontaneous if anything. I hate planning trips.

UGAnchora 02-08-2004 03:56 PM

A few of us are going to Chicago! My Big's boyfriend is at the Navy Training school there....I've never been, i'm really excited!

MSSTCY1 02-08-2004 07:57 PM

I went to Chicago this summer for a mini vaca, you'll have so much fun!

As soon as you get there you should open up the guide book at your hotel. They list all of the best clubs, comedy shows, places to eat etc.. Our first night there we did one of the dinner and a shows thats offered ( it had some mob theme, I can't think of the name of it though) it was a blast, everyone had a really good time. They also do a tour of the city and show you all of the places where all of the mob related history went down in the twenties. It was a lot of fun and you got to see the whole city- I think it was like twenty bucks for an hour and a half tour- definetly worth it.

A bunch of the girls want to go to Cancun after I get back from Barcelona, but it's sooo expensive (for what it is)... the cheapest thing I've been able to find is like $700 for 3 nights... i'm not sure if i'm going to be able to make it.

I swear the promise of spring break is the onlything getting me through this semester.

That sounds ridiculous....is it through a student travel service?? I know you're saying that $700 is a lot, but my friends last year paid approx. $925 and they stayed for 7 days and food/airfare/hotel was included......

sigirl 02-17-2004 05:40 PM

Umm, i think it was through STA... not sure, to be honest. Whenever i look into going somewhere, i usually use a wide variety of sources (ranging from STA, to that other one that i can't remember... student advantage i think, to orbitz, expedia, travelocity and travelzoo)...

I do think it was STA though....I don't know how I feel about dropping sooo much for some place that i went to several years ago for under $500 (4 nights)

TigerLilly 02-17-2004 05:57 PM

Ireland, baby! I'll be in either Cork or Dublin for St. Patty's Day, and then I'll travel around the countryside for a week or so. I'm excited!!!
My "spring break" here is actually 2 1/2 months long, middle of Feb - end of April, so I'm sure I'll be doing plenty of other trips, too! :D

Edited because I can't spell. :p

veemers 02-17-2004 06:56 PM

I was thinking maybe I'd go to Beloit, WI for my spring break. I hear it's a nice place to go on vacation during the first week of March.

Oh, wait, I'm being forced to stay on campus because I'm an RA. Ha ha ha joke's on me.

Munchkin03 02-17-2004 07:16 PM

Still unsure about what to do. The boy's grandfather just died, and they're having a memorial service that weekend. Maybe I'll go to London the first half of that week, and go be family the second half.

sairose 02-18-2004 12:36 AM

I'll be going to NYC with the ASU Choir to perform in Carnegie Hall! :D We'll be up there for 5 days. I can't wait!
