Favorite old school Hip Hop Videos
I was looking at MTV last night and they were showing some of the videos that really had an influence on hip hop videos today. It was hosted by Fabulous Five Freddy & had a rotating panel of rappers that voted on their favorites, like Ice-T, MC Lyte, Mary J, Wyclef Jean, Snoop Doggy Dog, and MC Hammer.
What are some of your favorite old school hip hop videos? I'll start the ball rolling: 1) Fugee-La (Ooh La La La)/ Fugees 2) Cant' Touch This (remember Hammer pants?)/ Mc Hammer 3)You're All I Need/ Method Man & Mary J (remember Method Man coming up out of the sewer?) |
This should be a fun topic. No list would be complete without mentioning Salt 'N Peppa. They were my girls back in the day. I remember "Tramp", but was there a video for "Push It"?
|
Its a Salt and Pepa thing, yeah!

The video from LL Cool J where he is hopping around and doing the whop. I think it was for "Can't live with out my radio" MC Hammer had a girl group called Oaktown 257 or something. I loved their videos. |
My favorite Old School Hip Hop videos were "Goin Back to Cali", LL Cool J, and "I Don't Wanna Lose Your Love", B Angie B.
Hey! Ya'll remember Kwame? Wasn't he the one that wore all the polka dots? Since we're on the subject.... My favorite white videos were George Micheal's "Faith" and Debbie Gipson's "Shake Your Love". |

Any Salt-N-Pepa video, especially "Shake Your Thang". The dance moves in that video were too hype.
EU's doing the butt. OMG http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif I loved that one!!!! "I'm Bad" and "I Need Love" were my two most favorite L.L. videos. A host of other artists like Erick B. and Rhakem(sp?), Big Daddy Kane, and EPMD were all on a special video tape marked Video Soul and Rap City (before it had a basement). |

I liked the KRS One videos. Remember Ms. Melody? Who was it that used to do the one that went "Don't push me, 'cause I'm close to the edge; I'm tryin' not to loose my head... It's like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder how I keep from going under..." ? |

Favorite video of all time is Janet Jackson's "The Pleasure Principal."
Favorite Hip Hop video is "Buddy" with the Jungle Bros., De la Soul, Tribe Called Quest, Queen Latifah, and Monie Love. And how could I forget "Shake Your Thang" by Salt N Pepa. I was a freshman in college at a PWI univ, and all of the black girls on the floor would crowd around one tv set and dance whenever it came on. [This message has been edited by Miss. Uh-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha. It's like a jungle sometimes, It makes me wonder why they wanna take us under. Uh-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha." Ya'll know they were too wrong for making this video. Since we are discussing old school videos, let me ask yall this.
I have some videos I taped from Yo! MTV Raps and Rap City dating b/t 1988 and 1994. Does anyone here tape or has retained tapes of original broadcasts of Yo MTVRaps b/t 1988 and 1990? If so, I would like to arrange a rap tape trade. Well, I figured since I have traded game show eps, I feel I can do the same for rap videos. If someone can point me in the right direction, that would help. Thanx Rain Man |
I'm that type of guy.....
I loved that video w/ LL creeping through the museum like a cat burglar...He sho has grown up since then. *********Shaking my head at the beautificusness of that man******* |

Queen Latifah "Unity" House of Pain "Jump Around" Violent Femmes "Blister in the Sun" Salt and Pepa "Push It" "Whatta Man" En Vogue "Hold On" that was my jam!!! That first a capella part had all the girls around the way thinking they could saaaang, lol. and speaking of the way- LL Cool J "Around the Way Girl"- everybody had to have a dayumn lolipop after that song came out! Madonna "Rain" not really old school, but still a fave! NKOTB "Right Stuff" I WILL ADMIT IT!
