Go look at his other work..

AMAZING!!!!

PM_Mama00 01-31-2004 11:11 AM

I got that email with all the pictures from this guy. I didn't even realize the quattrefoil! I always thought our founders made it up until I was sitting in a church for a concert and got all excited cuz there were tons of quattrefoils!

HotDamnImAPhiMu 01-31-2004 03:48 PM

I think it's bigger in Europe, and I know if you read the history book they say there are more in French-inspired parts of New Orleans.

lionlove 01-31-2004 04:12 PM

That sidewalk drawing is amazing!

I saw lots of quatrefoils in Europe, usually on churches or other religious buildings. I tried to take pictures of all the quatrefoils I saw. Someday when I have a scanner, I'll post all the pics.

Not a Mezzo 02-02-2004 10:25 AM

Italy and Spain have lots of them too, I believe....

While I don't have a picture, I used to work at Chili's, and the tiled tables have tons of quatrafoils all over them!

pinkyphimu 02-03-2004 09:15 PM

that picture is really cool!

my big sis and i always met at chilis.....until it closed about a year ago. i just found another restaurant with a quatrefoil window and i think we are going to be taking a phi mu trip there!

HotDamnImAPhiMu 02-03-2004 09:40 PM

I work at Chili's. I do not heart it.

Not a Mezzo 02-06-2004 01:42 PM

Lol...I do not heart it either! I quit about a week ago because they're awful with scheduling and the trainers/managers kept treating me like I was dumb.

One of our sisters who graduated this past spring has worked there for over a year, is a trainer/bartender, and has been doing corporate hostess training for the region, as well. So hating Chili's isn't exactly a Phi Mu thing. :D

HotDamnImAPhiMu 02-06-2004 01:55 PM

It should be. I would poop on Chili's if I could.

THe Midland Theater in Kansas City

Has anyone ever been to the Midland Theater in Kansas City? We went last night for the Josh Groban concert and I was amazed. The entire ceiling was covered in quatrefoils. It was just beautiful!

Not a Mezzo 02-19-2004 04:38 PM

More quatrafoils!

I was sitting in my "Survey of Western Art" class today, taking notes for all I was worth. We're on Late Gothic art (fascinating, I know). The lecturer put up some slides from a frescoed chapel in Italy to draw attention to the details in the paintings. The whole thing is done in frames, where the borders of each picture are decorated to look like actual frames, not just painted-on borders.

Well, in the frame of one picture were two portraits of saints painted inside two quatrafoils! I know it's a popular design in Europe, but it just made my day to see that. :)

OUlioness01 02-20-2004 01:17 PM

the catholic church i go to at school sometimes has quatrafoiles on all of it's stained glass windows...it's extremely fitting that one of my sisters is planning on getting married there!

Adelphean1851 03-08-2004 06:16 AM

Sorry to crash your forum ladies but I was curious, what exactly is a quatrefoil? is it an architectual convention er what? ya'll defiantely have one of the most original badge shapes out there.

lionlove 03-08-2004 01:46 PM

A quatrefoil is a rounded rectangle shape with 4 arrow like points coming out of the sides of the rectangle. It is sometimes found in European renaissance art and architecture as well as different religious objects. It does have a *special* meaning to us and I like it becuase it is a unique shape.

Quatrefoils

I have seen quatrefoils in some random places.

My Mom lives in New Mexico, and I spotted one in a ceiling window at a restaurant where we ate.

I was shopping in an outdoor mall in Birmingham, and noticed one of the fountains was quatrefoil-shaped. (There are several lion sculptures that sit in another fountain at the same mall!)

My boyfriend has a big portrait of a lion in his living room, and upon closer inspection, I discovered a small, golden quatrefoil in the corner!

Kind of makes me wonder about the whether the people who made these things are of any affiliation with Phi Mu.

There are quite a few quatrefoil fountains at the Summit :) Everytime I pass them (which is often) I always think about Phi Mu :)

I guess I must be completely unobservant because I've never noticed the lion statue in the fountain. I have some errands to run there this weekend...I'll have to take note!

TNPhiMu 04-09-2004 03:24 PM

I was in my boyfriend's grandparent's house over Spring Break a few weeks ago and looked up and his grandmother had two wooden tray's BOTH in the shape of a quatrafoil hanging on the wall! I got all excited when we left, telling him about it. He just thought I was crazy though :p

DigitalAngel126 04-10-2004 04:22 AM

I just don't understand. lol. Does someone have a link to maybe how they explain how it's done? How can it look so 3d?? It's creeping me out!! :p

RoseNWhiteLion 04-11-2004 09:21 PM

did you want a link to how the quatrefoil looks, or how the street chalk drawings look 3D? ;-)

The quatrefoil is in so many churches in Europe because it represents four circles overlapping symbolizing the four gospels, and the four points are liek a compass spreading the four gospels in the four directions, to spread Christianity throughout the world.

There's your fun fact for the day!

HotDamnImAPhiMu 04-12-2004 01:25 PM

leave it to Allison to rock our respective worlds....

quatrafoils = so pretty. I want the pendant from Carnation Collection.

Not a Mezzo 04-13-2004 09:29 PM

Which one? The nice sterling silver one or some of the BLING BLING ones? :)

Sorry, it's been a while since I've checked back in here... the lions in the fountain are down near Saks and High Country.

What part of Birmigham are you from?I go to school in Jacksonville but my boyfriend's family is in Pelham, so I'm down there quite a bit.

Good afternoon! I haven't been on here for a long time! I have photos from spain i never scanned in for a thread like this!
motivation!

IluvSirFidel 06-23-2004 12:27 AM

I was in Boston this weekend and when I was walking around Harvard's campus, I found two quatrafoils on one of their buildings. I was so excited!!!

roqueemae 09-24-2004 01:41 PM

My husband and I went to San Antonio this weekend and there were quatrefoils everywhere! The sidewalk outside our hotel on the Riverwalk had them randomly every few steps. They were on buildings every once in a while. My husband even got in to the Spot a Quatrefoil game. I even convinced him to buy me some jewelry off of the Carnation Collection. I WIN!

peachy 09-24-2004 03:11 PM

The four gospels/compass aspect is interesting. Merriam-Webster online doesn't mention it, so it must be (almost) exclusively European in that regard.

Main Entry: qua·tre·foil
Pronunciation: 'ka-t&r-"foil, 'ka-tr&-
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English quaterfoil set of four leaves, from Middle French quatre + Middle English -foil (as in trefoil)
1 : a conventionalized representation of a flower with four petals or of a leaf with four leaflets
2 : a 4-lobed foliation in architecture

MoonStar17 09-27-2004 11:52 AM

WOW, just freaky!!!
How did that guy get those pictures to look so 3D?!?!
This is going to drive me nuts!!!
:)

OHHH I see this pinkish house everyday on my way to work, it has a quatrafoil on its point above the large bay window..and in the middle is a lions head coming out... i always wonder if a phi mu lives there!!

*Bump*
They are re-doing the main street in my city, and across from the high school, there is a quatrefoil made of bricks in the side walk. It is made so it looks like four circles in the center, and the square coming out of the sides of the circles. You know what I mean??? Anyway, it's a quatrefoil, and I got so excited when I saw it! When one of my sisters came up here to visit me this summer, I took her to it and showed her.

PhiMuABD 07-15-2005 02:29 PM

There was definately a quatrafoil hanging on page 32 of the most recent Pottery Barn catalog (early fall 2005.) After searching throughout the entire catalog, I discovered that it was just a teaser and could not find it for sale. Damn you, Pottery Barn!!

DeltaEtaKP 07-15-2005 02:32 PM

Oh also, in the show, "yes, dear" (I think that is what it is. There is a married couple with kids, and the brother and his wife live there, too w/ their kids..anyway...) When they open the front door, there is a quatrefoil on what would be their front porch

LyonLuv 07-15-2005 03:36 PM

Oh!! I saw that too! My boyfriend was with me when I squealed at the sighting and proceeded to tell me I'm obsessed with Quatrafoils, Of course I am! I'm a Phi Mu!

I also saw multiple quatrafoils on the tables at Chilis :)

The daughter of the owner of Chili's is a Phi Mu!

There's a Phi Mu secret that also has to do with Chili's but I can't let that out on the boards. ;)

DeltaEtaKP 07-15-2005 04:55 PM

Now you have me intrigued... I have only been to Chili's I think once... ever, and it was when I was still in high school and didn't know anything about Phi Mu.

phimusical 09-06-2005 04:25 PM

WDW

Outside the American Adventure attraction in the American Adventure Pavilion of the World Showcase at Walt Disney World's Epcot is a large quatrefoil fountain; I got really excited when I saw it but didn't have my camera with me.

DeltaEtaKP 09-20-2005 08:45 PM

The ceiling in the choir room at my school is covered with quatrefoils... There are also quatrefoils on all of the stain glass windows in the chapel.
