GroundHog DAY!

Its Febuary 2nd!!

I live in the wonderful state of PA and of course the ever so popular "holiday" of sorts is comming up!! Its GroundHog DAy! I have actually gone to Puxautawuny (exciting I know) to see the actual event take place. I think that its the most hilarious holiday, and its really so silly, but I guess that's the fun in it. I'm not really sure if this was only an east-coast thing or not. Its on February 2nd, and if the groundhog--Puxautawny Phil sees its shadow there will be six more weeks of winter, if he doesn't there is an early spring ( I think that's how it goes). Check out the official website for more info. ENJOY!!

ETA:
I forgot to type the website!!

that groundhog better not "predict" more bad weather!! I WANT WARM WEATHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LadyBug103 02-02-2004 10:27 AM

Did the groundhog see his shadow or what?? I haven't gotten a chance to see the news yet?

alsparky 02-02-2004 11:53 AM

Only 6 more weeks of Winter!! Woo hoo!!!

I can't stand much more of this!!!! You'd think I wasn't raised in New England or something!

Bring on the Spring!

Allison

Taualumna 02-02-2004 08:41 PM

3 out of 4 groundhogs saw their shadows, so there won't be an early spring! The only groundhog who didn't lives in Nova Scotia. A guy from a local radio station hopes that Sam is right and the other ones wrong!

RedFox 02-03-2004 03:44 AM

Oh what a great movie...gotta love Phil Connors...bundle up kiddies because its COOOOOOOOOOOOLD outside! ;)

NotYourAvgBear 02-03-2004 05:03 PM

Phil ? Phil Connors?

It's me, Ned Ryerson

AGDLynn 02-03-2004 08:58 PM

Georgia's General Lee actually has a better record of getting it right! About 93%:)

RUgreek 02-01-2005 06:13 PM

no winter no winter No Whammy.... STOP!

1 day to go....

WCUgirl 02-01-2005 06:21 PM

It's winter? Who would have thought. We've had about 2 solid weeks' worth of cold weather.

kddani 02-01-2005 06:49 PM

my roommate and I are SO considering blowing off classes and work tomorrow to go see Phil... he's not too far away

I think you might want to wait until tomorrow.

SapphireSphinx9 02-01-2005 07:02 PM

I wasn't paying attention when I started reading this thread and I thought to myself, "it's not Feb. 2nd??? I swore I just got paid!! Oh no, that's just an old post!" *whew* ok still have my sanity! hahaha! :D

KillarneyRose 02-01-2005 08:00 PM

How many of you non-SW PA guys can spell Punxsatawney???

DeltAlum 02-01-2005 11:56 PM

If I hadn't heard it so many times in the past, I couldn't even say it, let alone spell it.

honeychile 02-02-2005 12:07 AM

Tomorrow (Groundhog Day) would have been my parents' anniversary. That always embarrassed my parents, like they were groundhog worshipers or something.

Until the movie came out, I really thought it was just a "local" thing - Punxsy being about about 1½-2 hours away.

G-Hog Day 2005

First D.J.: Rise and shine, campers, and don't forget your booties 'cause it's cooooold out there today.
Second D.J.: It's cold out there every day. What is this, Miami Beach?
First D.J.: Not hardly. So the big question on everybody's lips...
Second D.J.: On their chapped lips
First D.J.: ...their chapped lips is, does Phil feel lucky? Punksatawney Phil, thats right wood chuck chuckers its
Both: GROUND HOG DAY!!!

Any updates from our PA GCers? The weather forecasters down here don't really cover the groundhog's prediciton, because let's face it, we don't really have a winter here!

kddani 02-02-2005 10:15 AM

he saw his shadow. 6 more weeks of winter.

I don't remember the last time he DIDN'T see his shadow.

With all the camera lights on him, I don't know if it would even EVER be possible for him to not see his shadow in this day and age

that's so true!

honeychile 02-02-2005 11:52 AM

If that rodent DIDN'T see his shadow, I wouldn't believe him! Six weeks is only the middle of March, so of course we'll have six more weeks of winter!

texas*princess 02-02-2005 01:13 PM

I'm sooooo tired of winter! I want spring!!!!!

(hehehe.. I can only imagine how you folks up North feel...)

KSigkid 02-02-2005 03:38 PM

I don't really care what some damn groundhog says. There's snow on the ground, it's freezing, and I don't expect warm weather until August.

CanadianTeke 02-02-2005 03:48 PM

The two Canadian Groundhogs, Wiarton Willie and Balzak Billy (yes it's from the town of Balzak in Alberta) both predicted an early spring....one can only hope they are right

The1calledTKE 02-02-2005 07:31 PM

Gen. Beauregard Lee predicited a early spring here.

This was his last year too. there will be a new groundhog for the South next year.

RUgreek 02-02-2005 10:23 PM

It's time for me to prognosticate.
As I study the sun
It's all about fun.
But I'm sorry to say
I see my shadow today.
When my shadow I see,
Six more weeks of winter there will be!

Phil must die of hypothermia:p

2/3 Canadian groundhogs, that is. Whuzzhisface...something Sam from Nova Scotia said six more weeks of winter.

mmcat 02-02-2005 11:07 PM

at least phil is fed well...
he seems in peek condition when he is drug out of the ceremonical hole

DolphinChicaDDD 02-03-2005 05:03 PM

Chuck the groundhog from Staten Island didn't see his shadow. Since Staten Island is a bridge away from me, I like listening to Chuck.

So the rest of you who like the guy in PA can deal with winter. Chuck and I are having an early spring.:) Staten Island Zoo's Chuck

ETA: Chuck has about an 85-90% acurracy rate.
