Oscar Nominees

http://movies.yahoo.com/movies/featu...3nominees.html

What do you think?

KSigkid 01-27-2004 02:28 PM

It'd be nice if Bill Murray won this year; I think LOTR will win because of the overall trilogy, and Jackson will get best director. I'm surprised Cruise didn't get a nomination; I thought for sure this was the year they'd make up for screwing him in past years (Rain Man and Magnolia).

Should be interesting, I'll add more later.

TigerLilly 01-27-2004 02:53 PM

I hope hope hope that LOTR gets best picture, but I don't really care if Peter Jackson gets best director.
I'm all about Johnny Depp for best actor, but you know he won't get it. Those Oscar people just don't like comedies.

Other than that, the nominations just made me realize how many movies I need to see -- I really want to see Lost in Translation and Last Samurai, but I haven't yet.

PhiPsiRuss 01-27-2004 03:04 PM

This is the first time where I've seen most of the movies nominated.

LOTR for all its nominations!!!

Bill Murray was amazing in Lost in Translation, and a sentimental favorite. He should have won something for Caddyshack, so I think that they'll make it up to him and give hime an Oscar.

Best Supporting Actor to Tim Robbins. He was the only actor in Mystic River that made me forget that he was a famous face. He became his character.

I only saw 1 of the movies with Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, so I have no idea who deserves it.

dzandiloo 01-27-2004 03:44 PM

For the first time ever, I have not seen ONE of the movies nominated for best picture. Must get out of the house.

Am I the only person who isn't disappointed that Nicole Kidman wasn't nominated? Seriously folks, I didn't see the movie, but from the previews I saw, her accent was atrocious.

I'm cheering for Bill Murray, but if not him, then Johnny Depp.

Taualumna 01-27-2004 04:07 PM

I have only seen "Seabicuit", and that was on an airplane!

I never saw "Seabicuit," but I did see "Seabiscuit." It was good, but I'll be surprised if it wins.

Neither can I, but thanks to http://webster.com , I pretend that I can. Also, I had to look up Seabiscuit to make sure that I had it right, before I poked fun at you.:p

GeoffZ 01-27-2004 05:22 PM

I was surprised by some of the nominations. I thought Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman would get nominations for sure. And it sucks that Cold Mountain and its director didn't get nominated. I only saw one of the best picture nominees, Mystic River. I think LOTR will win. Either Sean Penn or Bill Murray will get best actor. Where did Johnny Depp come from? Charlize Theron will probably get best actress. It's crazy that a 13 yr old girl and Diane Keaton are in the same category. And I want Renee Zellweger/Tim Robbins to get best supporting actress/actor.

He'll win it because it'll be a "career" award thingy. Oscar is such a joke anyway. Johnny Depp will win it in 10 years.

cutiepatootie 01-28-2004 07:13 AM

Ok who else was shocked thast 1. cold 2. nicole kidmana nd 3 even renee zellweger didnt get nominated? i mean at leat the movie i thought would og gotten nominated....what a shut out!

Though i LOOOOOOVe Bill Murray and i hope he wins.... just from his golden globe speech alone i was busting out laughing on the ground.

Renee Zellweger was nominated for best supporting; I believe she's actually the favorite to win.

It'll be tough this year because both Murray and Depp could win on the career basis; Depp could have merited more consideration for "Ed Wood," "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," and "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," while Murray could have for "Rushmore," "Caddyshack" and "Groundhog Day." While Murray is the favorite, I could see them very well giving it to Depp (or Sean Penn for that matter). This is the first year in a while that there doesn't seem to be an overwhelming favorite (although not many people gave Adrien Brody a chance last year).

DWAlphaGam 01-28-2004 11:28 AM

LOTR has to win for best picture and best direction or else nerds all around the world will revolt. :p

(J/K, I love LOTR, too. ;))

I'm not disappointed either though I haven't seen the movie.

I'm rooting for-
Lord of the Rings for Best Picture, Peter Jackson for Best Direction, Charlize Theron for Best Actress, and Tim Robbins for Best Supporting Actor. I really didn't think Marcia Gay Harden was amazing in the role.

PhiPsiRuss 02-29-2004 10:13 PM

Best Supporting Actor - Tim Robbins

He won, and he deserved it. An amazing performance.

I also liked how the only thing that he added to his speech, was that he portrayed a victim of violence, and that he encouraged victims to seek help.

PhiPsiRuss 02-29-2004 10:25 PM

Achievement in Art Direction: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

It was funny when the camera was on Charlize Theron, and he announced her thought, "Mrs. Billy Crystal."

juniorgrrl 02-29-2004 11:32 PM

I must be the only person who doesn't find Billy Crystal funny.

I also don't love Raymond.

I don't care about any of the Oscars, except I'd like the song from "A Mighty Wind" to win best song. That movie rocked.

PhiPsiRuss 02-29-2004 11:39 PM

Achievement in Makeup: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Very good movie, but huh?

mullet81 03-01-2004 12:02 AM

I just started watching th Oscars (damn group project!!) and about the ladies fashions i've seen so far (b/c really - it's the best part of the night):

Diane Lane - looks absolutely gorgeous, always does, classic beauty

Sandra Bullock - beautiful from the boobs up - love the hair and makeup - HATE the fur on the dress, yuck!!

Julia Roberts - looks stunning as usual... especially love the hair

Naomi Watts - really pretty - i wish she would have picked a brighter colored dress... with the light hair & skin - she looks too "beige"

Oprah - seriously O - youre looking slim and fit these days, what is with the HUGE ass bow on the back of your dress?! It's unnessary!

Catherine Zeta Jones - love the combo of her dark dark hair and the striking crimson dress. she looks great - always a classic

Peter Jackson - he cracks me up with the hair and the bead and the frumpy tie/whole suit - but the man can direct a damn good movie!

Charlize Theron - love the dress, lots of sparkles and she looks great in it! Her makeup, especially the eyes - I am not a fan of - i've seen her hair and makeup look better

Jude Law - he doesn't look as hot as he could have looked - or as hot as i've seen him :( I don't like his hair

Uma Thurman - hair and makeup - gorgeous. Not a fan of the dress though (or at least the sleeves)

Tom Cruise - he looks gooood :D

Nicole Kidman - totally make up for her hideous dress at the Golden Globes. She looks like a Barbie Doll tonight - beautiful, i love that color on her

i'll update this list as i see more :)

She needs good makeup. I've seen her without, and she has terrible skin.
