Snow Day

SNOW DAY for UNCC and most of Charlotte!

Anyone else praising the snow gods today;)?

tri-d 01-26-2004 01:29 PM

Raleigh also is partaking in the snow day! Nice to have an extra day to get caught up on things...now I just need to step away from the computer!

ADPiAkron 01-26-2004 01:34 PM

Hmmm...how come schools are off in the South but up here in Ohio where we really got hit hard, The University of Akron is still in session! I guess we just deal with snow more professionally! hahaha Many of the high schools and elementary schools were called off though!!

CarolinaCutie 01-26-2004 01:45 PM

Yup, no school today. Although I was mad that UNCG held onto the 12:00 delay for SO long, even after GTCC, State, AND Carolina had already cancelled class. Also, I just tried to call work and there was no answer... so that's a stress-free day for me!:D

Sister Havana 01-26-2004 01:46 PM

IU never, ever cancels classes. We could have had three feet of snow, everything else in the state closed, and we'd still have to go to class. And the University does not plow well at all. It made me unhappy when I went.

Because the people in the south don't know what to do when they get a little bit of snow. Places that are used to snow never get snow days...although we really should.

There is a blizzard warning in Ontario today, and where am I? At work!

Ummm actually it's because we have about 1.5 snow plows and we don't have things like snow tires. People in the South, in my experience, are actually more careful drivers in the snow because we're not used to it.

Betarulz! 01-26-2004 01:59 PM

We've got a snow day here in Nebraska!!!

First time it's happened since I was a freshman. And it wasn't b/c of ice this time.

We've got about a foot and it's STILL snowing...this is like 36 hours of continuous snowfall.

Sorry, I was being sarcastic, I didn't mean to offend anyone from the south.

DeltAlum 01-26-2004 02:46 PM

Only two to five inches in Denver overnight. Only slowed down the inbound commute. Nothing is closed.

Supposed to back into the high 50's by Wednesday or Thursday.

I have a friend from SC who told me that his county had two snow plows, for the whole county! That blew my mind since my town alone has at least 20 snow plows, if not more!

I'm in the most of Charlotte group! I just LOVE sleeping in past noon and getting paid for it!!!

FAB*SpiceySpice 01-26-2004 03:26 PM

Dude yall suck this isn't fair. Columbia is covered in like an inch and half of thick thick ice and then snow on top of that, but Mizzou neeeeeeevvvveeer cancels classes. They did like 40 some odd years ago for a day and it was b/c of a blackout. So I had to trudge all the way downtown to my class (stupid psych building is so far away!) and then slip and slide all the way back to the sorority house. No fun, my face felt like it was frostbitten. :(

krazy 01-26-2004 03:32 PM

Don't be so quick to wish it were cancelled... I am stuck inside and I am soooo bored. I wish I had something to do. All I can do is wait for House of Dreams and Airline to come on tonight. Those are the highlights of my action packed mondays. What a miserable day it is...

Peaches-n-Cream 01-26-2004 04:00 PM

I was shocked to see that it hadn't snowed last night. I really thought that it would. It will tonight and tomorrow. There will be heavy snow on Tuesday night with accumulations of six inches.

honeychile 01-26-2004 04:04 PM

Snow Day? What's a Snow Day?

Everything's iced over here, and so we're telecommuting!

But at least I can do it in my jammies! ;)

As of 1pm, The University of Akron cancelled classes and closed for the night. No women's recruitment either.....it is rescheduled for next Monday....

As for me....North Canton was closed also so I didn't have to teach today....I have yet to teach a 5 day week but hey I'm not complaining. :p

Xylochick216 01-26-2004 04:05 PM

Snow day for Elon :) And it's the last day of winter term classes, so professors are going crazy because they thought they had today to prepare us for our exams tomorrow! They didn't cancel til after 9am, and tomorrow is already on a delay. Don't know what they are going to do if we get more ice today, because recruitment starts Wednesday morning, and we can't go to class and have recruitment!

Rio_Kohitsuji 01-26-2004 04:10 PM

Rio's out!!! Yea! That is mostly due to 90% of the prof's couldn't make it outta their driveway today, hehe. Bad part....the roads are crappy..so..I can't see my boyfriend today..damn.

AXO_MOM_3 01-26-2004 04:54 PM

Wake cancelled classes today! I'm so hoping they will do it again tomorrow as I have not had a chance to get to the library to get some stuff needed to complete a project due tomorrow! Hoping the snow keeps coming!

GeekyPenguin 01-26-2004 04:57 PM

I gave myself a snow day. ;)

Good old Denver.

It's probably close to 50 degrees already and bright blue sky.

Now, we're having a "slush day."

ThetaGrrl 01-26-2004 06:34 PM

It's slushy in C. Springs too... Blue skies as usual in Colorful Colorado...

My sister claims that if you wear your pajamas inside out and backwards the night that it snows, it's good luck towards snow days... (she's 12)... She did it last night and ended up with a two hour delay... no such luck for those of us in the work force, however...

Actually, now they're talking about 8-12 inches. :(

Looks like I'm telecommuting for the next couple of days...

dzsaigirl 01-26-2004 08:48 PM

I am praying for a Wednesday snow day. It is supposed to snow 7-14 inches (last I checked) here starting tomorrow night ;)

The sucky part: A day missed now = a make up day in June...waaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!

Not sucky part: I still get the same paycheck every two weeks even if there are snow days ('cause of those damn make up days)

I'll let you know if we get cancelled :)

tri-d 01-26-2004 09:40 PM

ANOTHER SNOW DAY for State! Although the roads are really sucky, so I am trapped in my house for yet another day. It's crazy--I spent 4 years at Tulsa and not once did we have a snow day, and I do remember a few doozies. I have been at NCSU for a year and already have experienced 3 days cancelled due to inclement weather.

MSKKG 01-26-2004 09:50 PM

Due to ice, Mr. MSKKG's office was closed and so were our boys' schools. Mr. MSKKG will go into the office mid-a.m. tomorrow, but our boys will get another day off.

Our power was off for a couple of hours this afternoon--we had a lot of brown-outs and flickering all day.

PhiMuLady150 01-26-2004 10:29 PM

UNCC is now at no class until 11am tomorrow..so now we are up to snow day and a half!

mullet81 01-26-2004 11:03 PM

i really need to transfer schools...

Sister Havana 01-26-2004 11:11 PM

IU didn't cancel classes? I'm so stunned.

Mullet81, did they at least plow somewhat well?

DeltaZeeSC 01-26-2004 11:17 PM

Yay for Winthrop U. Snow Days!!! It's always a party when it snows in Rock Hill! Too bad people in South Carolina don't know how to drive! :-)

erniegurl00 01-27-2004 12:11 AM

Butler hasn't had a snow day as long as I've been here. I heard there was a week many years ago, but only because it was over winter break and no one could get back.

Snow and ice mix is coming into Indiana tonight. I bet you all $10 dollars I'll still have to give therapy and go to school tomorrow!

angelic1 01-27-2004 12:42 AM

about the "south" getting out for snow days.. at VT classes are hardly ever canceled. They were today though bc of ice.. we rarely have ice.. one other time since I was in school we had classes canceled bc the school just ran out of money to plow... there was snow always on the ground that semester so eventually they ran out of money..

ice is the main reason i think that certain parts of the south get out more bc when there is winter weather everything becomes straight black ice..

Hootie 01-27-2004 12:54 AM

The malls around here finally closed at 5 pm. All area schools are closed already for tomorrow...I'm hoping the same applies to the mall! At least I don't work until 1!

AXO_MOM_3 01-27-2004 01:54 AM

Ugh - Wake says we have to come in as 12:00. I'm SO not happy! It's not like anything has melted since yesterday or the roads are any clearer! I may never get out of my neighborhood! Better get busy on this journal summary!

aephi alum 01-27-2004 02:15 PM

So I decided to telecommute today because of the impending storm...

It's 1pm and there hasn't been so much as a flake of snow.

I feel like a very big chicken now... :p

PhiMuLady150 01-27-2004 03:52 PM

UNCC is on its second snow day...but honestly we could of gone to school today....

AGDee 01-28-2004 01:38 AM

Spent the weekend in St. Louis for some AGD training and wasn't able to leave on Sunday due to an ice storm. Monday, left at 6:20 am and was at work in Detroit by 9:30 am. Picked up kids from latch key before the ice started here. Held my Cub Scout meeting.. went home and crashed. Tuesday, kids school called a snow day and it wasn't really that bad (but they were saying 3 to 6 more inches of snow on top of the ice we got all night.. but we only got about an inch). Stayed home with them, eating up a vacation day.

Snow days are not as exciting when they eat up your vacation time. I'd rather have a nice July day off instead!

Dee

Ready to move south.. so tired of winter.

ETA: Being stranded with 25 sisters is a lot of fun, once you accept that you're just not going home!
