we just went looking today and test drove a mercedes - benz m class SUV. i really liked it....but then again i am sure anyone would like a car like that!!

anyone ever have problems with mercedes - benz??

i want a new car!! :D :D

DeltAlum 01-25-2004 06:02 PM

If you've got the $$$ to buy it, license it and insure it -- why not?

I've never had a real "luxury" car, but then again, I'm more the Porche type. I've always driven sports cars.

Luxury Cars...

It's one of the best cars you can buy. Papa Munch has two (one of which was my HS car), and they do require a lot of maintenance and upkeep, as you'll want to take it to licensed M-B repairmen and use premium gasoline. But if you're good to it, it will be good to you. The nice thing about M-B is that they have a lot of different price ranges, from the C class (about 32K), to the S Class (115K). I don't know much about the C class (I guess it's a good starter car), and the M-class is okay.

I guess it all depends on how much you can afford. They have better gas mileage than any American car, even the SUV is better than comparable cars.

I want a lexus SUV fully stocked

Rudey 01-25-2004 07:21 PM

Considering the fact that Mercedes has had a ton of troubles in the last few years and its quality has declined...well...

Oh and if you're buying a crappy class on a car it's ridiculous and people laugh. It screams i am sooooo infatuated with class and can't really afford it so i own a benz c/bmw 3/porsche boxter with no options.

I'm secretly in love with luxury towncars.
Sure, they gas guzzel in cities - but they are sooo smooth on the highway.

KSigkid 01-25-2004 07:39 PM

As far as Mercedes - the M class is a nice car, I'm more of a CLK fan myself; very nice cars.

Rudey's right - if you're going to buy a nice car, go for the best or don't go at all. No point just paying for the name.

I've driven many different luxury cars and can recommend a few things...i like benz', but if you're not gonna spend at least 70 k can. (50k u.s.) to start, don't bother. C class mercedez are not worth the price at all. Go out and get a different luxury brand for a cheaper price...You mentioned you like the suv, well to be honest with you I would say the mercedez SUV is one of the worst luxury products on the market. The car looks like a box and doesn't have the total package feel of the X5, and comparing it to the FX 35/45..soon to be 65 - hahahah, goodnight.

If you really have the bones to throw around and consider purchasing a benz, go out and get an AMG. The performance on those models is sickening. Complete car, they vary considerably in price - the cheapest model C32 AMG starts around 52, good car, mind you i'll take it's rival the M3 over that anyday :)

Personally, as much as i like German-made vechicles, i would take a long hard look at any infiniti car before i made my decision. That company is dominating, simply put, they are taking all the awards...

p.s. not sure if you're adverse to BMW or not, but the new 6 series are F%^*&#( stellar!

kappaloo 01-25-2004 10:41 PM

Speaking of expensive SUVs... has anyone seen the new Porsche Cayenne?

Ewww.... I guess it retails for some outragous price too.

Peaches-n-Cream 01-25-2004 11:12 PM

If you have the means, I highly suggest you get one. :)

I LOVE that SUV (and I hate SUV's). I just bought a BMW 330i convertible. I will pick it up this Thursday. I have never bought a luxury vehicle before but I felt like queen for a day at the dealership :).

well Rudey-I like the BMW 3 class. I could have bought a 5 series but I wanted a convertible.

I personally think the 5 and 7 series BMW are way to big and I have no use for them.

I don't have a luxury car, but I do own my dream car--a 2003 silver New Beetle. It's so cute :)

German cars are the best, IMO.

AlethiaSi 01-26-2004 02:47 AM

one word: AUDI

they are the best cars that i have ever driven or owned- my family has 3 of them- and 2 are 87 quattros- ones a sport- and the other is the 2001 A6 wagon

if you live in a snowy area- they are AMAZING in the snow and in teh summer- get a sun roof- they are a blast to drive no matter when- i wouldn't give up my quattro except for antoher audi

they are pretty expensive- but they will last 15 years if you keep them up... better than american cars that die off in 7...

i like hondas though not "luxery" they are well made and will last a long time

etahannah 01-26-2004 05:20 PM

thanks for all the posts...i hope i didnt piss anyone off!! hehe...

we are going to look at 2 right now. i will let you know what happens....we could end up looking at a completely different class than the MLs but who know....we gotta have something to tow the kids around in...

wait...i dont have kids...

yeah...we're off to see the wizard
the wonderful wizard of mercedes!!!

rho4life 01-26-2004 05:30 PM

I have owned two bmw 325's. One was totalled in an accident that I WALKED away from w/ minor injuries. That convinced me to get the second one. While repairs can be pricey, I have found that once you fix somethign once [ie get a new transmission] you won't have to fix it again. My mom had a chrysler that kept needing to go in for the same problem, again, and again, and again -differnt shops and no one could fix it:rolleyes:

I adore the 3's for their sporty feel, great acceleration and pure driving pleasure. I have also driven a 5 [taught a pal how to drive stick on his own car:p ], and the 6 and the 740 [ my uncle let me test drive his :D ].

For anyone who enjoys driving, I highly recommend taking the 740 for a spin. It is a big car, but, it was amazing. I get all tingly just thinking about it. :D The car is very responsive, and easy to maneuver despite the size.

I've also driven a few Benz's that friends have owned. Overall, if you're a driver, get a BMW. If you want to drive a luxury car, but don't really enjoy driving, buy a Benz.

cash78mere 01-26-2004 05:48 PM

i drive a pathfinder and the girl i carpool with drives the mercedes suv.

her car was like $15k more than mine. i think it's much uglier on the outside and the inside is nothing special. her heated seats blew and she was getting shocked through her seat onto her butt. it also burned a hole through the leather--this was 2 months into having it. luckily her dad works for MB so they are taking care of it quickly, but it still sucks.

my car may not be "luxury" but damn, i'm in love with all it has!

Maybach, hahaha while we're throwing money around why not a Bugatti-Veydon to go pick up my mail...jesus...

No one would consider my Honda Odyssey a lux mobile, despite the leather interior and $40K price tag. But then most of you don't have two kids under 5. Power sliding doors RULE!

oooh, cupholders.....
