Alphie1851 01-23-2004 11:41 PM

bobby eakes, soap star

jean smart, one of the designing women

kate capshaw, from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Dune (she married some dude named Steven Spielberg...i know, who? ;) )

jessica capshaw, actress and daughter of ^^^

that's all i can think of off the top of my head

polarpi 01-24-2004 12:33 AM

Here's a list from Baylor (Zeta Chi's) website:

Famous ADPi's

The only thing about Bobbie Eakes is that it doesn't give a chapter designation, so I wonder if maybe she's an *honorary* ADPi???

She's on just about every list of ADPi's, so I'm guessing it's safe to say that she's a member.

One somewhat infamous ADPi was Ginger Alden, a former Miss Tennessee (?) who was engaged to Elvis Presley when he died.

Michelle Pfeiffer pledged but did not get initiated into Alpha Delta Pi (to my knowledge).

skerbow 01-24-2004 02:08 AM

I have been told Susan Lucci is an ADPi as well. But i dont' remember where I read that, or how to find it again. LOL

Hello ADPi friends! :) (I love this topic of famous Greeks!) I was in school when Bobbie Eakes was Miss Georgia -- I know she attended University of Georgia. I'm loving her on "All My Children" these days. I'm curious about Susan Lucci's affiliation too. I do know for certain that her daughter Liza Huber was in the Chi Omega Chapter at UNC-Chapel Hill (and Susan & Helmut attended Parents' Weekend!)

Well, that would put Bobbie as a Beta Nu chapter sister :)

WLFEO 01-24-2004 05:49 PM

Guess what? I just got an email saying on the new ADPi web site it will have a place that lists our famous alumnae. I think the web site will be up sometime this summer- not quite sure about the time frame. But it will be nice to have an official list! :D

honeychile 01-24-2004 09:11 PM

That will be fantastic!! It's so frustrating to play "she is - no, she isn't!"

Tell me about it....and what a great PR tool to use for recruitment, especially for those whose recruitment is in the fall...I'd be checking the website everyday :D

ASUADPi 01-25-2004 11:58 AM

I do not believe Jessica Capshaw is an ADPi. I'm not even sure if she attended college. I say this because just about every ADPi website I've visited lists famous ADPi's and she has never been listed. Kate Capshaw has, but she hasn't.

Let's not forget:

Danica Mckeller (Winnie from the Wonder Years)

Judy Woodruff (CNN Correspondent)

Brianna

I was going to say, you better not forget one of my chapter's famous alumna, Judy Woodruff (Omicron)!!

USFAlum 02-24-2004 01:45 AM

Michelle Pheifer (is that how you spell it???)
Kate Capshaw
Kathy Bates and
Golfer Sandra Plamer
are all ADPis
I have also been told that Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O Connor is also an ADPi, but I have never been able to find any evidence except the ADPi page on my university's GLO website. Hope this helps!

Alphie1851 02-24-2004 01:51 AM

i heard somewhere that michelle pheifer was, but after further investigation, found out that she went to something that was more like a community college. pretty sure sandra day o'conner has greek ties, but not to adpi. that's something to investigate...

Where did you read this? I ask because every ADPi website I have ever gone to, which is a lot, NONE have ever listed Michelle Pfieffer, Kathy Bates or Sandra Day O'Conner as possible ADPi's..
With that said, I don't believe that they are in fact ADPi's.

Hey if I'm wrong, great.

If someone can list their possible chapters of initiations that might help.

I mean we (ADPi's) keep claiming that Bobbie Eakes (from Bold and the Beautiful) is an ADPi, but we have no idea her chapter of initiation, so how do we REALLY know if she is or not.

Sorry, I'm in a very pondering mood tonight.

Alphie1851 02-24-2004 02:04 AM

this link is pretty accurate. anyway, according to this, sandra day o'conner is pi phi

ASUADPi 02-24-2004 02:12 AM

alphie1851, thanks for the link.

I had no idea that Ashley Judd was a KKG. Pretty cool.

I have to say that as far as all the greek sororities go, the total list is pretty impressive of all our famous greeks. Go Us!!!!

FirstAndFinest 02-24-2004 04:26 PM

Francine Neff, Secretary of the Treasury (maybe the first female one, too)!!

USFAlum 02-24-2004 07:09 PM

Whops! Thanks for telling me- ill make sure that gets corrected on USF's web site!
Loyally,
USFAlum

Yes, she was the first one! At the Convention after she was appointed, the favor was a dollar bill, hand autographed by Mrs. Neff! (no, I don't have one, I just thought that was cool!)

Actually, she was the Treasurer of the United States; she was the first female. More info on the Treasurer of the United States:

skerbow 02-24-2004 11:23 PM

Thank you so much!!!

ASUADPi 03-01-2004 01:25 AM

oh I just found out that Kathy Nail is actually Kate Capshaw. I was reading greek101.com and they listed both names and of course I'm thinking 'Kathy Nail, actress, who the heck is she'. Well, another GC member mentioned on another thread that they are one in the same. So there we go and now we know. LOL.

speaking of I just watched Steven Speilberg give the award away for best picture. He he. No wonder I was thinking of her cause that's her hubby.

Yeah, and as he was walking out on the stage all I was thinking was "His wife's my sister!!!" I almost said as much to my mom, but she probably wouldn't have gotten how exciting that is to me! :)

ASUADPi 03-01-2004 03:13 AM

I was totally thinking the same thing last night as I was watching The District. Jean Smart was guest starring and I was like 'she's my sister'. And of course I have to brag about it every moment I get.
My mom was like 'you just like her because of Scarlett' (the mini-series that she starred in back in like 1995 I think) and I'm like 'yes, I like her because of that and Sweet Home Alabama but mostly because she's my sister.' :)

dnll7272 03-04-2004 12:37 AM

Deanna Carter is an ADPi from Tennessee. I love her!!!!!! She is a country singer.

rolltideadpi 08-02-2004 03:04 PM

Jett Williams

Jett Williams,
Hank Williams Sr.'s daughter was an Eta and Univ of Alabama in the 70's. Her name at the time was Cathy Duepree I believe. If you remember Deana Carter dont forget our other country singer!

This is on IMDB.com (internet movie database) and answer that question...

Biography for
Jessica Capshaw

Mini biography
Jessica is the daughter of actress Kate Capshaw and salesman Bob Capshaw. She is also the step-daughter of Steven Speilberg. She was born in Columbia, Missouri where both parents were students at the University of Missouri. The family moved to New York when to pursue Kate's modeling career. Her parents divorced when she was 3 and Jessica got drawn along in her mother's new world. Kate married Spielberg when Jessica was 15. Among her three parents, she is one of 9 biological and adopted siblings. Jessica graduated from Brown University in 1998 with an English degree.

So do we have a chapter at Brown?

Not according to the list of chapters I have...we only have one chapter in RI, and that'd be at the University of Rhode Island (which if I'm not mistaken, was FirstAndFinest's alma mater!)

ADPiAkron 09-05-2004 02:17 PM

Polarpi is correct-- there are only 2 sororites at Brown and they are Alpha Chi Omega and Kappa Alpha Theta.

ASUADPi 09-15-2004 07:44 PM

So I was watching TV the other night and a preview for a new sitcom came on, guess who I should see starring in the sitcom....

none other than our lovely sister....

Jean Smart!!!!!!!!!

I ALWAYS get so excited when I see her. (yeah I'm a dork)

Oh BTW does anyone know what chapter Sandra Palmer is from?

skerbow 09-15-2004 09:52 PM

On first glance of her history, Sandra Palmer went to NOrth Texas State.....which is now known as the University of North Texas. That would make her a Gamma Upsilon sister. I will do a little more research. What a great thing for GU to use during recruitment!!

ADPiAkron 09-15-2004 10:03 PM

On my website I have Sandra Palmer- Gamma Upsilon- University of North Texas!!

skerbow 09-15-2004 10:18 PM

According to the Baylor website, she is credited at GU. BUT< i want to confirm she was at UNT while Adpi was adpi. I still haven't found a year of attendance and the years I have, are not that far from the time we were became ADPi on campus.

Update:

I can confirm she attended UNT, or what was North Texas State University and graduated with an education degree in 1964. Assuming, she didn't take more than 5 years to complete her degree, she would have pledged around 1959 or 1960. Gamma Upsilon became an ADPi chapter in 1953. Viola!

Short Biography

Man I wish PO was up and running. That sure would have made this easy.

Preaching to the choir sister :)!!!!!!!!!!!

At least we know now.

Oh I noticed that one of the websites listed Ellen Cho (I think that is her last name) as a 'famous alum' because she was on Road Rules. Honestly, when I saw her on TV (not knowing she was a sister). I was like "omg, she's horrible" and "oh she is not whining about that" and "what a B&*^%". Feeling pretty awkward now.

ADPiAkron 09-16-2004 07:53 AM

Email EO-- they will tell you-- especially since that is your chapter right? I emailed about Sandra Day O'Connor-- and they let me know right away that she wasn't an ADPi. So just go to the website and fill out that contact sheet and ask!!

WLFEO 09-16-2004 08:56 AM

Sandy Palmer IS an ADPi! I confirmed that with EO this summer. I went over a whole list with them.

There is someone else who is usually listed as an alumna but she has cancelled her membership- PM me if you want the name- I don't want to post it. Now whenever I see her on TV I think, GGGGGRRRRRRRRR.

While you're gagging, Ginger Alden (Elvis Presley's fiance who was living with him when he died) was an ADPi also...
