Children Named After GLOs

Is anyone aware of anyone naming their children after a GLO's founders or mascot?

33girl 01-22-2004 07:52 PM

We had a cat named after Calva Watson Wootton. :D

WhiteDaisy128 01-22-2004 08:42 PM

I don't personally know any, but I do know that there are DG's that have named their little girls Hannah, after our mascot.

sairose 01-22-2004 08:46 PM

Not within SAI, but I think it'd be awesome for an SAI to name her daughter Rose. :D

rainbowbrightCS 01-22-2004 08:52 PM

My Best friend is name Hannah and I could of sworn that her mom was in a sorority, I wonder....

PhiDelt649 01-22-2004 09:02 PM

Our chapter dog is named Mojo...after two of our founders

Robert MOrrison and JOhn McMillan Wilson

as for the rest of our founders...I dont know of any brothers being named after them...could be wrong though:

Robert Thompson Drake
John Wolfe Lindley
Ardivan Walker Rodgers
Andrew Watts Rogers

nhpgator 01-22-2004 09:03 PM

my daughter's middle name is rose after our sorority - additionally she was born during our convention rose banquet (not actually at the dinner - i was in a hospital in florida while the convention was going on in virginia) and the entire executive board thinks i planned it that way -

if we have another daughter her middle name will be ruby after our stone!!

aephi alum 01-22-2004 09:04 PM

I think my kid would get picked on in school if I named him or her Giraffe... :p

honeychile 01-22-2004 09:08 PM

I know entirely too many cats names Alphie, and daughters with the middle name Violet! If I was going to go that route, I think I'd at least go for the more original Sophronia...

nhpgator 01-22-2004 09:25 PM

oh come on i think giraffe would be awesome - especially if he or she was really tall!!!

i don't think my husband would let me have any panda's either...

lol I second that! I know of many cats named Alphie!!! And it's kind of funny, but even before I started college, I've always wanted to name my future daughter (if there ever is one) "Violet" ... mainly b/c my family has this thing with "ette" in the names of females.. and its my all time favorite color :) Now I have one more reason!

MTSUGURL 01-22-2004 10:23 PM

My next cat will be Sunny... (Our symbol is the sunshine.)

DeltaBetaBaby 01-22-2004 10:33 PM

Hmmm...I don't particularly like Mary or Martha, so I don't think I could give my kid a Phi Mu name even if I wanted to.

DGqueen17 01-22-2004 11:05 PM

Hmm I could name my daughter

First name: Dee
Middle name: Gee

Haha that would be crazy!

xok85xo 01-22-2004 11:19 PM

thats it. its been decided. i am going to name my daughter owlison (pronounced like allison). her nick name will be owlie

wreckingcrew 01-23-2004 01:13 AM

One of my SNu brothers was named Pike.

His dad was a Pike.

Kitso

abaici 01-23-2004 02:07 AM

I would totally name my daughter Ivy.

Funniest. Thing. EVER!!!!!:D :D :D

HotDamnImAPhiMu 01-23-2004 02:46 AM

I've had some of the same thoughts about how a Phi Mu baby name would be difficult.

That is too cute!

breathesgelatin 01-23-2004 03:34 AM

Me and my chapter sisters went through and thought up names for the different NPCs one day. I think there is actually a thread regarding that in this forum if someone wants to search. Anyway, our Pi Phi one was Patsy Betsy Phyllis. Isn't it horrid???

CatStarESP4 01-23-2004 04:05 AM

I wonder if any of my sisters would name their children names that start with an E, an S or a P/F. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they named their pets Tiger/Tigress, Diamond or Diamante or Emerald.

Oh, come on, you know you want to name your son Sir Fideles (I think i spelled that right, if not, I apologize)....

And Shiela, I know you're son's name is going to be Hermes....

I would possibly think about giving a daughter the middle name Pearl...but Pearl is also a family name.

Might be worse if I named a kid "Fuzzie"...

were the Founders of Alpha Delta Pi. If I was going that route, I'd probably go with Sophronia & really mess up the kid's life! ;)

OleMissGlitter 01-23-2004 12:08 PM

I don't know anyone who has intentionally named their daughters after an AOII founder. However, my best friend who was an AOII and her mom was an AOII and her aunt was an AOII, her name is Elizabeth. I personally like the name Helen or Stella. I think they are classic names. Anyway...
Our Founder's:
Jessie Wallace Hughan
Helen St.Clair Mullan
Stella George Stern Perry
Elizabeth Haywood Wyman

Oh and this is funny, on the New Member's test this past Fall 2003, some of the new members wrote Helen St.Clair Muller...my last name is Muller. Anyway, I thought it was funny...

ZTAngel 01-23-2004 12:15 PM

Our founder's names are:

Maud Jones Horner
Della Lewis Hundley
Alice Bland Coleman
Ethel Coleman Van Name
Alice Grey Welsh
Mary Jones Batte
Helen Crafford
Frances Yancey Smith
Ruby Leigh Orgain

I know they were all lovely ladies but I wouldn't name my kid after them. The only ones I'd maybe consider are Alice or Mary. The rest sound like a 80-something year old's name.

greeklawgirl 01-23-2004 01:11 PM

This is something I've never thought about before, but then I had a scary realization. Alpha Gam has 11 founders, and my family shares names with SIX of them. To wit: I have a Marguerite, an Emily, a Jennie, several Marys, and a Georgia as relatives.

Wow. Maybe it really was fate that I became an Alpha Gam???? :D

What about Leigh? I like that name.

CrimsonTide4 01-23-2004 01:32 PM

I would name my son COLEMAN. ;)

NOPE!! Coleman is good and his nickname could be CJ.

AOTTAdvisor 01-23-2004 03:03 PM

This is kind of random but my dad's fraternity house in college had a dog and on its collar it said "I belong to Kappa Sigma" and gave their number and address. Well, he got lose one day and they got a phone call saying "Hello, Mr. Sigma--we found your dog".
I just always thought that was funny!

AEPhiSierra 01-23-2004 03:14 PM

Well AEPhi's founders are:

Helen Phillips Lipman
Rose Gerstein Smolin
Rose Salmowitz Marvin
Stella Strauss Sinsheimer
Ida Beck Carlin
Augustina "Tina" Hess Solomon
Lee Reis Leibert

Of those I really like Stella. Rose and Lee (though its not my preferred spelling) aren't that bad either.

That was her maiden name (I think) so I didn't think of that. Leigh isn't bad either.

nhpgator 01-23-2004 03:46 PM

That is interesting about one of AEPhi's founders being a Stella - as noted before in this discussion one of AOII's founders was a Stella as well - Stella is one name i would consider naming my daughter if we have another girl - our daughter now is Isabella Rose and we call her Bella Rose - so bella and stella would be cute together....

MiAngel711 01-23-2004 06:17 PM

My first born girl will be

Eleanor Dorcus (Pond)

Doesn't that just roll off the tongue?
