With all due respect to any French Persons onboard...That's pretty damned funny.
ETA both of them. I had only seen Rudey's when I posted. |
That's pretty funny.
I'm not a French military history expert, did anyone win anything besides Napoleon? |
I think they won the 100 year war.
Charlemagne was a winner as was Charles Martel (turned back an invasion from North Africa). |

The magazine above missed out on another new piece of French Airborn Technology...
It's a special new parachute. Opens on impact. (OK, so that was originally a Polish Joke. No offense is meant to anyone -- this could be told with any nationality) |

http://www.wsu.edu:8000/~dee/REV/NAPOLEAN.HTM He won some battles, but lost the "Napoleonic Wars". I still maintain the last time the French could really claim victory in a war was the 100 years war. You might also be able to make an argument for WWI. The Germans did take most of France but they were held at the Seine. |

I was also going to argue that they could have also claimed victory in the American Revolution. They commited troops to the fight, used their navy to attack and blockade the British, on top of launching attacks on other British possessions (forcing the British to stretch out their military). The French even convinced the rest of main-land Europe to recognize the fledgling United States and impose economic penalties on British goods.... also don't forget were the peace treaty was signed: Paris. |

It is called, "The Corsican Brothers" http://images.rottentomatoes.com/ima.../47/192147.jpg |

How about if we say that they have been on the winning side in every war they have participated in on the US side. That's assuming we can agree that the French were totally out of the Indochina (Vietnam) war by the time we got in seriously. The time they oppossed us, The Franch and Indian War, we won. As I recall, they also aided the Confederacy in the American Civil War. Have I missed any? |

As for Indochina, yeah they were gone before the US commited even advisors.... but most of the troops weren't even French, there was a large number of German veterans filling out their ranks. |
This reminds me of a joke email I received some time ago about supposed surplus French rifles.
The tagline I remember more than anything: "Never fired, dropped once!" |
Or, the world's shortest book:
