What music are you feeling right now?

I love music, yall!! So I figured, why not start a topic on it?! Anywho.... after I bought Jill Scott, not much has been in my CD player since (before her it was Kelis). Well, Musiq Soulchild has done it! He's taken over!!! I LOVE THIS CD!!!! Is anybody else feelin' me?? My favorite song I think is "Mary Go Round." I think it's tight how he spells out that verse at the end of the song.

So, everyone, tell me, what music are you feelin' right now??

Strawberri 12-08-2000 10:11 AM

I'm feeling you with Musiq. His CD is on point. I was a bit skeptical about it at first....I thought that he would be a one hit wonder....but he is good. I'm also feeling R. Kelly even though alot of my friends are hating. One other CD that gets constant play is Stankonia. The boys from the ATL always are good for something.

Ideal08 12-08-2000 10:27 AM

I bought R. Kelly's new one the same day that I got Musiq. To me, it goes without saying. I am NEVER disappointed by Mr. Kelly!!! Unfortunately, he's just not getting much play right now b/c of Musiq! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

LadyAKA 12-08-2000 10:27 AM

I am a R&B type girl!! I love to relax to music, dance to it and sing it ... so any type of rap is out - but if it plays on the radio and I like the beat I will listen. Otherwise in terms of new music I love me some R. Kelly. But if we are talking about what is in my CD player as we speak, I will have to say Mary J., I love me some Mary J. Never miss a concert when she comes to NYC, well except for last night which I am real upset about :-(
Others are Monica, since she was on MTV or was it BET, last week I am listening to her music again, she sings so much better then what's the other girls name - http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif just joking, Brandy is cool.
Oh and I can't forget to mention Mary Mary, the lady that sing "His name is Jesus" - I can't remember her name now, and of course Kirk Franklin for their gospel beats.

Sorry so long, but music is a favorite pastime for me!!!

I will let some other people post and then I will tell you what I just purchased from Columbia house.

Mz. Sports Luva 12-08-2000 10:29 AM

Strawberri: I'm feeling my boy R. Kelly too! I just love him! My favorites are #s 2, 4, 14 & 15. But this cd has nothing on 12 play.
I've also played my Jill Scott cd to death, I know every song word for word. I'll have to pick up Musiq's cd, I keep hearing how great it is.

Monica is my girl! I don't really like Brandy, even though her mother is a Soror!

Inquisitive 12-08-2000 05:19 PM

I think I have to agree with Mz Sports on this one I love my new Jill Scott CD! It's one of the few CD's of which I like every cut!

I feel you, I feel you, I feel you!!!!!!

Maxwell is the ultimate WHIP!!!!!!
I would be right in line behind you for my copy of "Mary Had a Little Lamb" .
Too bad he hasn't done anything for a while.

Also, I think y'all slept on Rashan Patterson. That brutha was a bad mutha....shut yo mouth.

But I think the coolest thing going right now is Musiq. And before I go I just gotta give honorable mention to the song by Avant and Katera, and Last but not least, my girl, Yolanda Adams

Ideal08 12-08-2000 05:42 PM

I think I'm the only person I know who prefers Brandy over Monica. Oh well. I have never heard of Rashan Patterson. I'm on my way to Napster right after I post this! Yall are crackin' me up with the "Mary Had a Little Lamb" thing!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif I am so glad to know I'm not the only person who has totally overplayed my Jill Scott cd.

As much as I love me some R&B, I am feeling some rap songs. Dead Prez's cd is really nice. I don't think too many people are ready for that, though. But I love it!! I am loving this whole Soulquarians movement: Common, the Roots, Jill Scott, etc. I think it's cool how they are all on this Soul movement thing and that they are all Aquarians.

I have Rhashan Patterson's first CD, with Stay Awhile, I Got to Get to Where You Are...etc. I heard a cut from his latest CD on the radio, also I saw him on the other BET Live with Rachel and that other guy...he looks different...

Jill Scott, for sure is the bomb
Yolanda, yes indeedy!
Carl Thomas

onesavvydiva 12-09-2000 12:38 AM

Ya'll know what, I think that some people who like Monica over Brandy are thinking of the whole package to look at. I honestly cannot see how someone can say that Monica's voice is better than Brandy's...

Monica has a regular run of the mill, church choir voice, and she doesn't even have that much of a vocal range.

Did anyone catch her on the movie "love song" on MTV. Can we say that the musical arrangement was HORRIBLE!!! Was she trying to preserve her voice for something because I don't think she even took it up or down one octave...she sings sooo monotone.

Now Brandy on the other hand, she may not be as pretty as Monica, but sista can SANG!!!!

BUT>>>>>I respect everyone else's opinion...(we all know some can be a bit misguided at times http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif).

Conskeeted19 12-09-2000 01:30 AM

Yolanda Adam's cd is really great! Fred Hammond, Johnny Taylor, Wyclef-911, Isley Brothers, Lauren Hill, Kevon

nikki25 12-09-2000 01:33 AM

I'm loving "Not Guilty" by Pastor John P. Kee. If you haven't gotten this CD yet, it's definitely a must-have!

Oooh, I am a R & B fan to the max!

I got R. Kelly's new one and I really like it! If my best friend really new how much I liked it she'll kill me (she claims that's her man). LOL.

I also just purchased Carl Thomas (I know I'm late) but I am digging him too! I like all the songs on his CD.

I like Chante Moore's new one too, (then again I like all her CD's). But, none of my friends is feeling me on it.

But my all-time favorite R & B singer has to be Maxwell. I own just about everything the brother ever made. If he came out with "Mary Had a Little Lamb" I'd buy that too! I had missed his concert when he came to Cali, and was too upset!

Convinced 12-09-2000 04:30 AM

I'm feeling a song, but I don't know who sings it. He's a middle aged guy with long braids. I think he used to be in a group in the 80's. Its a slow song that they play on Midnight Love sometimes. I think the name of it is "Without You". Does anyone know who sings this? If so, email me. Thanks!

PrettyPetite 12-09-2000 06:35 AM

Ideal08, I feel you on the Soulchild CD!!! My favorite track is #7--Love. The song, to me, is so simple, but nice! I bought the CD, and downloaded it off the 'net onto my computer. I play that CD out. (I even put it on my black planet page http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Convinced, if you find out who sings that song, let me know please. I also like that song--it took a while to grow on me though...(I guess it's because I can't stand the video!)

I AM NOT looking at the total package...
Rather, I LISTEN!

Brandy's voice is REALLY weak to say the least! She sings through her nose! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif

Brandy cannot hold a 5 foot pole to Monica. There is NO competition! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

Shoot, if you want to call Monica's voice RUN OF THE MILL, Church choir, etc. I would take that ANY OLE DAY! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

So I guess Whitney's is ONLY, LET ME CLEAN THAT UP...WAS (before the problems)ONLY a run of the mill, Church choir voice?

Where is Brandy's range? In her shoe? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif

The same comparison goes for Britney and Christina...Britney is WEAK! CHRISTINA CAN BLOW!

I forgot, the arrangement for the music on the movie Double Platinum was not too HOT either! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

IMHO

Well yall I am really feeling Jill Scott, but Erykah's new cd is on point to. Mr. Carl Thomas is also the music of choice.

AKA2D'91 I have to agree with you Brandy can't sing period. What makes her songs are the beats behind her voice. She sounds like a 12 year old whereas Monica has a grown mature voice. As for Brittany Spears, whoever gave that girl a record contract, my dog howls better than her. But Christina is my girl.

Since everyone has a concensus on Musiq, I guess I will have to pick up his cd.

Also the word is that the disappearing acts cd is nice to.

AKA2D '91 12-09-2000 02:50 PM

I heard Tamia's CD is tight too! I am feeling Stranger in my House, especially when she says..."Pop Quiz..." YES INDEED! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

MIDWESTDIVA 12-09-2000 02:57 PM

My favorites right now are:

Erykah Badu-Mama's Gun
N'Dambi-Little Lost Girl Blues
Maxwell-Embrya (still love this one)
Jill Scott-Who is Jill Scott?

I prefer Monica to Brandy.

Sorry, but I ain't feeling Ronald Kelly. He is way to ghetto fabulous for my tastes.

I will definitely buy Musiq. I really like the song they're playing on the radio about the girl next door.

MIDWESTDIVA 12-09-2000 03:06 PM

Yeah, I forgot about Tamia. I like Stranger in my house, but I also like the first single. The Hall and Oates remake.

I still like Chante Moore, but I don't want her to turn into a hip hop queen. She should stick with the duets with Keith Washington and Will Downing.

prospectiverushee 12-09-2000 04:12 PM

I hope you don't mind me posting my thoughts about here. I can tell you music I'm not feeling now...

Ricky Bell( yes the same Ricky Bell from New Edition and Bell Biv Devoe) has just release his first solo album entitled Ricardo Campana. Is should really be called Ricardo Crapana. Even though it features several songs with former New Edition members Johnny Gill and Ronnie Devoe, it doesn't change the fact the the album still sucks. (I'm deeply disappointed to because Ricky was always my favorite member of New Edition)

Check it out. I'm curious to see what everybody else thinks about it.

I'm feeling what I'm always feeling!

PRINCE!

Thus the screen name.

AKA2D '91 12-09-2000 07:21 PM

Dang, I loved Ricky, too...BIG NOSE AND ALL!

I didn't know he had something out? Does he have a video, too?

Why is he using another name?

I saw Tachina Arnold (Pam from Martin) on "Oh Drama" (BET) and she said she had a song out and it was #2 on the dance charts. The thing is is that it is under ANOTHER name. She said she wanted to test the waters or something... Anyway, folks need to be women and men about it. If it is GOOD stuff we are going to buy it...if it is NOT good stuff we WILL TRASH IT!

What that says to me is that homegirl isn't very confident in her abilities.

AKA2D '91 12-09-2000 07:53 PM

The girl can BLOW though. I remember some years back, Gina ( I forget her real name) had a song out, but it did NOTHING...NADA...

oh, and the two of them had a duet for a movie...DON'T ASK MY NEIGHBOR, that old Emotons song! It did nada. I heard they had a video, but I NEVER saw it!

My favorites right now are:

Musiq-I Just Want to Sing (I can't spell the other version)
Erykah Badu-Mama's Gun
Outkast-Stankonia
Jay-Z-The Dynasty Roc La Familia
Jill Scott-Who is Jill Scott

That's about all I can say that i actually like right now, Musiq is very good. But also look out for Bilal. He's apart of the Soulquarians.

I didn't know he had a new album out till just recently while surfing around on the net. I don't know what's up with the name change. He's website is www.rickybell.com

The album just came out Tuesday. The first single is called Spanish Fly. I haven't a clue if there's a video put for it yet.

I couldn't even fine 3 songs on there that I would like to listen to over and over again. If I were hard press to name 3 have decent songs, I'd go with Spanish Fly, Have Ya Cake, and Strggle(Urban Mix)

Your comments are pretty unfair about Monica!!! I actually think both Monica and Brandy sing very well …. I happen to like Monica better for the songs she sings, the way she sings them and because did not become miss famous because she leaned on others such as Whitney Huston. Never say Never was Brandy's best and I feel that both of Monica's albums could leave that in the dust … so let's not throw too much dirt around now. Monica is just the bomb, and LOVE SONG was a great work of art …she is new to this acting thing!! I am with AKA2D'91 on the fact that Double Platinum was weak, especially since Brandy is already an actress!! Hey these are my opinions

Sweetsista 12-10-2000 10:42 PM

I'm really feeling Eryka's Mama's Gun right now. I just love its "jazziness".

Jill Scott is tight too!

Does anyone know when Tamia's CD is coming out? I bet it's probably out already and I just missed it. I've been out of it for a while because of school. Oh, and is anyone else bothered by her "Stranger in My House" video? I mean, I love Tamia and all, but I think she was doing a little too much! I wonder what Grant Hill
thought about it. I guess that's what sells though.

To those that have Chante's CD or have heard it, what do you think? I'm a little scared to get it. Although I love Chante, I'm a little skeptical about the pop escapade she seems to be on. "Straight Up" was alright, and I really didn't care for the video. I personally get annoyed when some artists try too hard to adjust with the times. I think Chante's a little too old to be dressed like Destiny's child and freaking JD.

Also, I can't forget Boyz II Men. What in the world was up with the CD they just came out with? They were probably one of the few groups that I didn't have to wait and hear opinions and ratings about before buying their CD. However, I was really disappointed with their new one. Yuck! I'd like to return it but haven't got around to. Oh, and what's the deal with the leather suits?? NOT cute!!

I'm glad to hear that a lot of other people like Musiq. My friend has been telling me to get it, but I've been a little hesitant. Now I definitely am going to go out and get it! And speaking of Musiq, was anyone else surprised to see what he looked like in
his "Just Friends" song? When I first saw it, I was like whoa, that's him? I was expecting something else I guess! But, it's good to hear that his CD is tight.
Maybe someone will get it for me for Christmas because I'm a little broke right now like I'm sure a lot of you are! lol http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

To address the Brandy vs. Monica battle, I feel that Brandy has NOTHING on Monica as a SINGER. I'll admit that Brandy is talented overall, and I'm proud that she's out there doing her thang, but Brandy cannot sing at all! I love Monica's voice! However, Monica needs to stick to singing and NOT acting! Monica had
me dying in her MTV movie, "Love Song"!! I think she was trying way too hard to act. She couldn't even walk right in the movie!!

Oh, and I forgot to mention Amel Larrieux! A lot of people are sleeping on her, but her CD, "Infinite Possibilities" is really on point. For those of you that don't recall who she is, she was the lead singer
for the group, Groove Theory. And no, that's not Amel singing on Groove Theory's new song.

Well, I guess I've rattled off enough!

One!
Sweetsista http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Oops, and I forgot Outkast!! I love Stankonia!

Yeah, Groove Theory is releasing their new album, "The Answer" in January. You may have heard their single that's out already, "4 Shure". I don't know if I like the song or not because I can't remember how it sounds! I think it's funny how Bryce Wilson is coming back with a new album with a new lead singer and still calling the group Groove Theory. I guess it's kind of like Destiny's Child, minus all the drama? lol http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I've heard some people refer to Bilal as a wannabe De'angelo. What do you guys think about that?

Ideal08 12-11-2000 09:34 AM

Amel L.'s CD is pretty tight, I agree, I think a lot of people slept on that one. I haven't heard Bilal yet. I had no idea that Groove Theory had a new CD out. I'm gonna have to listen out for that. There's a guy out who sounds like Teddy P., and I'm interested in what his CD'll sound like. Also the group Signature that has that song out, The Rain. I'm diggin that for real. I have to say that I thought that movie Love Song was a hot mess. I think Monica should stick to singing. As far as the Tamia video (Sidebar: I love that song!!), I'm not surprised. Nothing surprises me anymore in that industry. I'm not really a BoyzIIMen fan, so I'm not shocked at their CD not being great, but I do like a few tracks on it.

I thought that at first too, but I'm just gonna chill and see if his entire CD will be that way. Hopefully there will only be a few things that are alike (Not a whole De'Angelo rip off)
