Carbohydrate Addicts Unite!

Okay. Lunch at work is getting weird. I am seriously one of the few who is NOT on Atkins or South Beach. And if I had to do it, I think I would go crazy!

For instance: Today for lunch I had a cup of chili and the top off of a cornbread muffin with some water. Everyone else - A low-carb bar thingy or some other breadless/sugarless thing.

When I got home from work I had some gummy peaches and a couple of those peanut butter log candies. Oh, and then the rest of that cornbread muffin!

Then for dinner, I just had rice, new potatoes and fish. Oh yeah...and some Coke.

How can people stand to give up carbs?

i know just what you mean and only too well. i had to laugh when i saw this post as i had leftover spaghetti for breakfast, lunch AND dinner today!

sugar and spice 01-20-2004 09:21 PM

I would eat carbs all day long if I could . . . and sometimes I do.

I think I would get very very grumpy on a low-carb diet.

No way I could. I'm a rice-aholic.

Me too! I would eat rice with every meal if I could.

There are so many low carbohydrate products (including pasta and bread) out there, that it's not all that difficult. They're more expensive than their high carb counterparts though.

Yeah, but its not the same. I haven't tried low carb pasta yet, but I've had low carb bread and all sorts of low carb candy and ice cream. Nothing beats a pint of Ben & Jerry's or a Lindt milk chocolate bar. I really miss the good stuff sometimes. This thread is making me teary eyed.:(

I've been on the Atkins Diet since the last week of September, 2003. I weighed 216. Today I weigh 179. 19 more pounds until I hit my goal weight.:D

I AM very grumpy on the low-carb diet. It totally sucks, but I have been on it since Jan 5 and lost 4 pounds. I would give anything for a Dr. Pepper right now!!!!!! If I drink anymore water I may float away.:(

NO WAY. I couldn't do it. I like pasta and bread and things way too much. I am sure I would lose weight on Atkins, only because I'd practically be starving myself! (99.9% of what I like to eat is on the Atkins no-no list. :D )

Rio_Kohitsuji 01-20-2004 10:46 PM

Both of my parents and 3 of my bio sisters are on the Atkins Diet. Oye. Talk about having some odd dinners...I miss dinner rolls :( I'm gonna be chubby and you can't do anything about it!! *taunts parents* :p

rainbowbrightCS 01-20-2004 10:53 PM

I *heart* bread and there is nothing you can do about it.

give me rice any day...

this is one girl that can live off of bread and water and be very happy.

I love pasta too much to do anything like that. I'm not one of those people who has to have potatoes and a roll with every meal (like my daddy, who will eat chicken pot pie and have a roll too!). I figure I work out and I don't eat (that much) junk food, I can go carb-wild!

tinydancer 01-20-2004 11:03 PM

Nope, can't do without bread. I would have a bread sammich if I could.

AGDee 01-21-2004 12:17 AM

I successfully lost 40 pounds on the Protein Power diet. You are allowed more carbs than Atkins but still eat more protein. That one wasn't bad. I could essentially have one serving of a carb with each meal. When I made spaghetti and meatballs for the kids, I would eat mainly meatballs and a 1/2 cup of spaghetti. I tried to mix up which types of carbs I ate to get a somewhat balanced diet (milk with breakfast, fruit with lunch, bread/pasta/potato with dinner). I think the key to success on that one is doing weight resistance training. It's focused on building muscle to increase your metabolism. Most people I know on Atkins aren't doing that part of it, but I don't know if it is emphasized with Atkins as it was with Protein Power.

Can't do without carbs! It's impossible...if I couldn't have my macaroni or bread, I would be very grouchy indeed. My parents are now on the Atkins diet to lose a couple pounds, and all I hear about is carbs carbs carbs carbs are bad don't eat carbs don't buy any more carbs, but it just goes in one ear and out the other. If you don't eat carbs...what else is left? Lettuce?

meat. lots and lots of meat.

astroAPhi 01-21-2004 01:27 AM

I feel dead without SOME carbs. That's why I told people I was going on a medium-carb diet. Screw low carb. :D

Damn the Italian in me!

FiReKraCkEr 01-21-2004 03:20 AM

I'm doing the low-carb thing too...try being in Korea (where rice is the main thing) and doing Atkins. It's pretty hard.

I miss rice and chocolate the most. Mostly, I miss B&J's Chocolate Fudege Brownie ice cream :)

But after a little bit on this diet, you start to lose your cravings for sweet stuff. I haven't had sugar in about 2 weeks, and this is coming from someone who was addicted to chocolate!

aggieAXO 01-21-2004 03:29 AM

since I don't eat meat the Atkins diet is out for me. I LOVE carbs and that is my main diet. I do eat alot of soy products and have started eating some fish again (went 10 years without eating fish, can't stand it anymore). I love bread and potatoes and pasta and so on and so on. for dinner Sunday I had a dinner roll, macoroni and cheese, mash potatoes, salad and some salmon-ummmmmmmm

KillarneyRose 01-21-2004 04:07 AM

Mmmm, I can't think of too many things that taste better than a big bowl of pasta with marinara sauce, and fresh, crusty-chewy Italian breat slathered in butter to mop up the extra sauce. And a can or two of Pepsi (non-diet).

Needless to say; the Atkins diet wouldn't be my thing!

ZTAngel 01-21-2004 10:50 AM

Carbs rock! I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't have pasta. My favorite foods are all pasta dishes.

cashmoney 01-21-2004 11:58 AM

I don't think I could go one week without Apple Pie, the kind publix makes with the little crisscrosses on it. Its really good when its cold.

why does that matter in whether or not some people could go without eating carbs?

SmartBlondeGPhB 01-21-2004 02:30 PM

I'm joining the carb lover club..........

How can you live without grilled cheese sandwiches??????

lovelyivy84 01-21-2004 02:40 PM

I am not really part of the carb lover club, but the reasons I can't do Atkins are as follows:

pasta with meat sauce (russelwarshay, don't waste your money on low carb pasta, it's DISGUSTING! Either give it up completely or splurge and have some of the real deal, but don't go halfsies)
garlic bread
chocolate ANYTHING
corn muffins
toast- with butter, with jam, with both, it's all yummy to me!
biscuits from KFC.
cinnamon raisin bagels
cake/cookies

Granted I only eat these things about once a month, but I think that if I knew I couldn't have the I'd want them way more. I just watch my serving sizes and I do pretty good.

Here's the thing... I need to lose weight, LOVE carbs and don't eat meat.

What do I do?

Also, I can't make myself eat meat. I would turn anorexic. It makes me sick! hehe. No, I can't stand the texture of meat.

adpialumcsuc 01-21-2004 05:44 PM

Low Carb is bad

I did the low/no carb thing once and ended up having trouble with my kidneys even after all the water that I drink. (my husband always make comments that I need to save some for the fish in the sea). The high protein really did me in.
Now I try and just watch the carbs that I eat and make sure that I don't eat a ton at one time. I also make sure not to over do it on the protein.
The low/no carb diet does work though. I lost 30 lbs before I got sick.

cutiepatootie 01-21-2004 06:18 PM

All i have to say is give me P A S T A I cannot live without it

cutiepatootie 01-21-2004 06:19 PM

oh yeah a can or two of pepsi or dr pepper with garlic bread

dzsaigirl 01-21-2004 07:20 PM

To answer the question, yes, I am thin.

But I don't think that has anything to do with my ability to eat or not eat carbs.

I think it has more to do with my Irish ancestors surviving on taters :) Yum!

Huh...I said taters...:)

eat soy products. Get some soy hot dogs/lunch meat/bacon etc...-if you have a Sun Harvest they have many of these products. I also eat this fake salmon called "Veat" which is really good with garlic and rosemary-ummmm. Of course some of these products have the texture of real meat so you may not like them.

I'm a vegetarian, also because I can't stand the taste/texture of meat. Morning Star brand makes some pretty good fake meat stuff, and you can find it in Walmart. But don't buy the bacon! It has the taste/texture of cardboard. I've had their hot dogs, sausage crumbles, chicken wings, etc, which have all been good.

Where does one get this "Veat" stuff?

As for carbs...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....I like me some carbs. (This being typed as I'm eating a lovely bowl of Ramen for lunch.)

carboadd 01-05-2016 04:51 PM

so are any of you carb lover's still out there? I'm still trying to lose weight with less carbs...any tips?

jolene 01-06-2016 08:39 AM

Have you tried South Beach? I've had some friends lose weight with that. Came across this cauliflower breadstick recipe:
