State of the Union
I am excited to hear the State of the Union address tonight. I will be watching on Fox b/c as we all saw last year, they were the only ones respectable enough to not talk over President Bush's speech. While the Daily show is a good one to tivo, It isn't the best to watch at first, b/c it makes light of everything. Better for later that night...
|
I will definitely tune in. It will be interesting to see what hannity and colmes say about the address, they will explore both sides of of it im sure. its good to hear both sides.

I think that's where the whole "passing out as a defense mechanism" thing comes into play. ;)

I'm telling you, don't play that game. Nothing but bad news. ;) |
I couldn't find the rum anyway. :( So Kath and I are going to play with shots of water because we are that cool.
|
Be sure to check back at the site tomorrow morning...they'll tell you how many drinks you'd have to have if you're playing along. I won't be playing, I only have one beer in the fridge and I'm not playing that jammy with liquor.

The President said nucular, and I wanted to drink. ;)
I like his tie. |
Why do they let all the networks cover it? Can't they sell exclusive rights to one major network, and lower taxes in return?
|
Did anyone catch the following?
1) The Democrats cheered when Bush said the key provisions of the Patriot Act were going to expire... did ya see the look on his face:) 2) The Republican who was reading a book the entire time... He only put the book down when he needed to stand up. I watched him do this twice. I love the SoftheU! It cracks me up. (Although this may be b/c of the PSci background.) |
Oh my lord...I'm feeling sick...now I know why I'm a Democrat..
He just finished w/the "No Child Left Behind" Act (which is a bunch of bullbutter..   )and is working on the "Sancity of Marriage" deal...oye.. |
What happened to the going to the moon stuff? Did that backfire too much so he gave up?

Yeah, the No Child Left Behind Act is stupid. For those who don't know, if a Hispanic child comes in the day of the test speaking NO English, he/she will be expected to take the same test as the native speakers of English. The Special Education students are expected to take the same exam as everyone else does. Then, when schools do not do well in such areas, the school is considered "failing."
Schools are expected to make sweeping changes w/o any additional funding from the national gov. ARRRRRRGGGGHHHH as a student teacher, this topic sets me (and the entire education dept. at my school) completely off! |
The camera went to one rep from NY I think and it looked like he was asleep.Too funny. One man brought his little girl to the address. Poor thing fell asleep. I see a pattern here.
I just shook my head when he said abstinence is the key to not having sex for young people. Sure let's recall the just say no to drugs campaign of the 80's that didn't stop much either. |

I feel bad for Ted Kennedy - I had no idea he suffered from such a severe palsy! Poor man.
For the most part, I liked the SofTU address. I understand that most teachers hate the No Child Left Behind Act, but I liked so much of the rest of it. I can't wait to read the text - the talking heads are just going to push their own agenda, and probably don't even realize what GWB said yet. |

and... to cut funding for schools with students who aren't performing is just nuts. Perhaps they aren't performing because they have large class sizes, kids who are malnutritioned because of poverty, kids who have to walk through gangs on the way to school... A friend of mine has a Down's Syndrome child who will be tested the same as her daughter who has an IQ of 150! I really think all politicians need to spend a few months in reality to understand what's going on out there. Dee |

GeekyPenguin, KappaKittyCat and I played the drinking game with water and I want to pass out from overhydration. I can't even imagine doing it with alcohol. |

The speech was very good. Makes me want him back in office for 4 more years.
I watched the speech on NBC, only because they had the best HDTV coverage. It was awesome seeing the HD panorama shots of the floor, watching democrats crouch while the right cheered, the wrinkles in ted kennedy's face, etc. |
the first half of the speech was full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
I think the president really needs to stop taking such an oversimplistic view on the world |

4 more years! Bush has led us well!

I was snarking at Bush during the whole speech. That's what makes it bearable. And if I played the drinking game with alcohol I'd be annihilated within the first 10 minutes and dead by the end. heh. |
WHAT?!?
is it just me or did Bush he say he was proposing $23 million to drug test kids in school? Whatever happened to smaller government, staying out of our personal lives? 4th Amendment? Why doesn't he use that $23 million in a committment to end child hunger in the United States?

I'm under no illusion that Dems will do any better though, so for now, my vote stays with Bush. But it feels like a choice between dumb and dumbererer. |

I agree that many many aspects of the speech just showed how out of touch Bush is and how simplistic his worldview can be. The whole No Child Left Behind thing? The drug testing? The abstinence stuff? BLAH. The speech sounded fine but the amount of truth contained therein was arguable. Anyway here are some of my favorite parts of the speech/the accompianing Wisconsin kid chat: (1) When the Democrats applauded for the Patriot Act's expiration (2) How angry the military members in the audience looked (3) Ted Kennedy (4) Bush: "Too many kids turn to drugs these days because they are lacking positive role models . . ." Kath: "'Like me, you know, with that whole coke-snorting thing!'" (5) Bush: "Abstinence is the only sureproof way to prevent STDs." Kath: "No it's not. Not sleeping with dirty people is the only sureproof way to prevent STDs." me: "Like Blaine." Dirty Blaine: "Yeah, don't sleep with me if you don't want STDs." At least he admits it. (6) That whole completely ignoring the first amendment thing, not so cool (7) When my mom laughed at me as I was chugging away from my Nalgene bottle after Bush said "Iraq," "terror" and alluded to weapons of mass destruction three times in one sentence (8) How Bush looked like he was trying so hard not to laugh through the entire speech (9) How cute Tom Daschle is. Damn. I mean for an old guy. There was something about gay steroid-abusing Muslims too . . . |
No mention of OBL.
weapon of mass destruction became programs of weapon of mass destrution became programs related to weapon of mass destruction. |

23 million won't be enough to wipe a kid's ass. Get real.
And I couldn't care one bit about how teachers feel about the No Child Left Behind Act. Those unionized, lazy, corrupt people have brought down America's education system and the only act they'd love is one that takes responsibility away from them and allows them to do whatever they want. -Rudey |

The main issue w/ starving US kids stems from their crackhead parents spending the money on drugs. Stop the drug abuse, end the hunger... Look for a solution my friend, not a temporary patch. Get the drugs out of schools, they do not belong there. Bush may not be the best speaker, but he has great ideas. Granted, the Liberals in this board who bash him only bash his personal flaws. Typical. |
