Spring Recruitment

Hey guys! It is finally time for spring rush!! YAY!
It's informal, therefore, it is only 2 nights!
On my campus there are 4 sororities

Tuesday (Jan. 20th)
We go to each house for 45 minutes or so

Wednesday (Jan. 21st)
We go to the houses that we are the most interested in

I absolutely can't wait until Tuesday!!! I'm nervous, excited, anxious, and so ready to become Greek!
I'll keep you posted on any changes, etc. !!!

Sister Havana 01-14-2004 12:50 AM

Good luck! :D

astroAPhi 01-14-2004 12:54 AM

Only 2 days? Wow! But I guess if it is informal, most girls kinda know where they want to go anyway.

Good luck!

polarpi 01-14-2004 01:58 AM

Best of luck! :)

Jill1228 01-14-2004 02:38 AM

Good luck hon, and keep us posted!

SATX*APhi 01-14-2004 03:22 AM

BEST OF LUCK!!

AAgammagirl 01-14-2004 02:39 PM

Good luck! can you tell us which houses are holding spring recruitment?
thanks!
(oh and you're at texas a & m commerce?)

mmcat 01-14-2004 11:59 PM

go commerce...and go you.
may be it perfect for you.

tinydancer 01-15-2004 12:05 AM

Good luck!! We're with you all the way!

TriDeltaGal 01-15-2004 01:37 AM

Good Luck!

lil_princess05 01-16-2004 11:04 PM

I was just curious to know if there are specific rules about actives talking to pnms before the recruitment actual starts. My friends all know that I'm going through recruitment and I've begun to notice that our conversations are getting more brief. Are there penalties assesed to sororities that talk to pnms before recruitment (since it is only 2 days)?

lil_princess05 01-20-2004 03:18 PM

TODAY is THE DAY! All the informal fun begins! YAY! Can you change your member name (like, if i got into a house... and i wanted to have my name unique to that house)? I'll post sometime... either tonight or tomorrow!!

smiley21 01-20-2004 04:23 PM

i hope you get the house of your dreams!!!!

SATX*APhi 01-20-2004 05:44 PM

Woo hoo! Best of luck.

Xylochick216 01-20-2004 05:52 PM

Good luck and remember to HAVE FUN! :D

Jill1228 01-20-2004 07:16 PM

GOOD LUCK!
We want all the details!

ISUKappa 01-20-2004 07:17 PM

Good Luck! Hope everything goes well for you. :)

lil_princess05 01-20-2004 07:19 PM

Thank you! It's an hour until go time!! YAY!
*deep breaths*
It's kinda scary, the girls I know are all in one house... we are all from the same school... and so yeah... i'm not nervous about that house.... it's the other houses I'm getting anxious about!!
THANKS!

rainbowbrightCS 01-20-2004 07:47 PM

So you will find out tomorow where you have a bid for or where you are invtied for additional parties?

I get confused easily.

Chris

lil_princess05 01-21-2004 02:42 AM

Ok! I just got home from the events tonight! I think I did pretty well! Tonight was just to get us acquainted with the sororities and their purposes, etc. They aren't doing the 'cutting process' so everyone is invited back for a COB party tomorrow night. Each house has a party at a set time... allowing us to go to all the houses.

My 1st impressions of the houses:
I like farm animals so don't be offended when you read this! :)

The Sheep:
These girls were amazing. They were all so friendly, and wanted to tell me everything about their sorority that was allowed. They made it so easy to talk to them, and explained certain things. They also asked me why I was there, and what I wanted from a sorority. This house really made me feel at home!

The Cows:
These girls were really sweet. My greeter was sooo sweet, she introduced me to several girls. She also told me about their philanthropies. I felt somewhat comfortable there, until the girl kept talking about how 'when they 1st pledged, we made fun of them' or some of the jokes that she had done to some of her pledge sisters.

The Chickens:
My greeter here read my paper thoroughly(she asked specific questions from it). She was on the nervous side, and really wasn't telling me much about anything, and didn't bother to get someone else to tell me... So, I guess, I'll have to read the pamphlet.

The Pigs:
These girls were very.... crazy. The few that I got to talk to were really nice, but they're were a few that just had a 'snooty' attitude about them. They told me everything about their sorority that they could think of.

Tomorrow night, after 10pm (when the last party is over), we get phone calls from the sororities wanting to extend a bid to us! So, I will know something tomorrow night. They all seemed to be very interested in me, soooo who knows! (There were only 14 girls going through)

PrincessHeather 01-21-2004 04:24 AM

good luck tomorrow! It sounds like you had a lot of fun today.

just curious, what sororities are on your campus?

lil_princess05 01-21-2004 09:52 AM

We have:
Gamma Phi Beta
Alpha Phi
Chi Omega
Kappa Delta

FSUZeta 01-21-2004 11:21 AM

gosh, i hope that you get the phone call you are hoping for! incidently, your names for the sororities cracked me up!! best wishes!

lil_princess05 01-21-2004 12:37 PM

I was trying to come up with something that couldn't be easily detected!! Plus, I was watching some show on tv, and they were talking about cows (Maybe it was the Chik-fil-A commercial!!) I love their food!! Yeah.... anyway... I can't wait for tonight! I thought I was going to be super nervous last night... but after the 1st house... it was a piece of cake! My greeters were the nervous ones!! But they were so sweet!
We had to stand outside in 30 degree windy weather last night... doing the whole rush 5 minute knock thing at the door... so I am really feelin' it today!! YUCK! I hope it's gone by 6!!

Sister Havana 01-21-2004 01:27 PM

Good luck! It sounds like a new home will be yours soon! :D

astroAPhi 01-21-2004 02:15 PM

Oooh, how exciting! Best of luck to you.

And farm animals are definitely the most original naming system I've ever seen. One of my sisters is obsessed with sheep, so it made me laugh.

MoxieGrrl 01-21-2004 05:36 PM

Good luck to you! :)

(And those were the cutest, funniest names I've ever seen applied to houses on this forum)

Xylochick216 01-21-2004 05:57 PM

Sounds like you had a lot of fun! Good luck with the next round! We're all rooting for you :)

AAgammagirl 01-21-2004 06:06 PM

Good luck lil princess!!
can't wait to hear what's next!!

Ha Ha!! I work at Chick-Fil-A!!! Ha Ha!!!

Good luck hun!!! Have fun and we can't wait to hear what happens!

lil_princess05 01-21-2004 07:39 PM

Thank you for all the support! I'm sooo ready for it to be 10 o'clock right now!! It's about 45 minutes until the 1st party starts... and I'm getting very anxious!! I came into this whole thing with one sorority in mind, but now that I've got to talk to the girls from all of the houses, I've definitely decided to open my mind ! I'm so glad that I don't have to sign a bid until Friday... at least that will give me some time to review my notes and weigh each ones 'total package' fairly. Well, I'm going to go finish gettitng ready to go... (calming myself down, etc. ). Tonight will *HOPEFULLY* be a new beginning for me!!

rainbowbrightCS 01-21-2004 07:47 PM

I have a question. Can more than on group offer you a bid since it is informal. lets say all four call you can you then decide which one or can only one offer you a bid?

Good luck on tonight, you are getting ever so closer to finding you home. You are very lucky, I hope those groups know they are too.

Chris

pirepresent 01-21-2004 07:50 PM

Usually that is the way informal works - since no one is keeping track of what member is visiting what parties, in theory all sororities could offer a PNM a bid. I've seen it happen before. You just accept the bid that you want, and respectfully decline the others :)

lil_princess05 01-21-2004 07:57 PM

They told us that when we received the calls, we wouldn't have to give them an answer right then if we thought we might be getting more calls. So, yes I could receive a bid from all 4 houses. If that were to happen to me, I would definitely have to think about it... It was overwhelming last night, so I can take a step back for a breather...

QUESTION:
Is it ok if I forgot a couple of the greeter's names? I remember faces, but names... (they didn't have name tags on.... I don't think :S )

Just say you are horrible with names and go "oh hi, umm oh I forgot you name, sometime I forget my own, silly me"

works every time for me.

Or ask them how they spell their name, or some thing along those lines.

ISUKappa 01-22-2004 12:00 AM

Good luck!!!!!! I'm glad as the week went on, you were more open to the other houses. May you find your home in Sheep, Cow, Chicken or Pig! :D (That sounds kind of funny, doesn't it!)

I'm sure they'll understand if you don't remember everyone's names! They've probably been in the same situation! :)

Jill1228 01-22-2004 12:13 AM

I got my fingers crossed for ya

Sister Havana 01-22-2004 01:09 AM
