"I Wish I Never Bought That"

(idea stolen from the DST and AKA forums)

What product have you bought that you wish never wasted your money on?

I bought expensive white eyeliner because I read in some magazine that white eyeliner makes you look more awake. Definitely needed for when I drag my happy ass into work on 3 hours of sleep. After trying it once, I realized that it looks horrid on me and I wasted $20 on the thing.

Oh, and Ruffles low fat chips (I think it was Ruffles...). They're bad. I don't know what cardboard tastes like but I'll assume it's the same as low fat chips.

Taualumna 01-13-2004 06:07 PM

I bought a sparkling lipgloss last year that looked awful on me and smelled weird.

moe.ron 01-13-2004 06:09 PM

I bought an Ace of Base cd. I'm walking away in shame now.

Oh, about half the clothes in my closet. Don't know what I was thinking at the time. I've gotten much better now.

TigerLilly 01-13-2004 06:38 PM

A used TV I got for $30. It's broken -- every 13 minutes, it switches back to channel 1. Of course I didn't know this when I bought it.

ZTAngel 01-13-2004 06:59 PM

I forgot:

I bought this awful shirt while I was at Bloomingdale's about four years ago. It's this blue leopard tank top. I really don't know what I was thinking. It was right after I broke my elbow and I was on painkillers so that could be the case. It still has the tags on it. I keep trying to convince myself that maybe I'll find a use for it but no such luck yet.

Dionysus 01-13-2004 07:46 PM

I spent majority of my christmas money on food! I should've spent it on something else since I had gift cards from my favorite restaurants.

AOIIsilver 01-13-2004 07:52 PM

what was I thinking....

I bought glitter nail polish. The glitter won't come out of the bottle;hence, I paid $10 for a clear nail polish that chips!

Size 0 pants. I said, "Oh, yeah, I will be a size 0 again in a month or two...just as soon as the stitches are out of my stomach."

This computer game about elves (Like SIMS but with elves) as a "prize" for Mr. Silver. He plays it ALL the time...until the wee hours of the morning...including date nights!

rainbowbrightCS 01-13-2004 08:36 PM

I bought "natural" looking fack eye lashes. I don't need fake ones, mine are nice as is, but they made me look like Zsa Zsa or something..... natural right.

KillarneyRose 01-13-2004 09:57 PM

An overpriced pair of prescription sunglasses that I never wear because it makes me dizzy to wear them.

A Coach watch with a pink band. REAL useful

33girl 01-13-2004 10:11 PM

Tracy, I will take the Coach watch off your hands if it is making you feel bad!! I'm a watch whore. :p

Some of my tapes/CDs do give me WTF moments. The last piece of clothing like that was a blue skintight shirt...which highlighted my gut oh so attractively. I wore it once, washed it and gave it to my superskinny friend.

xok85xo 01-13-2004 10:15 PM

my car. i bought it in a panic (see this thread). and didn't really shop around for better rates/pricing or anything, so now i am stuck paying out the butt for it for another 3.5 years and the loan is too far upside down for me to even try to try to trade it in or anything. :(

AXJules 01-13-2004 10:24 PM

Best of Will Ferrell DVD....way too short, and some skits are really not that funny. Majorly disappointing.

I have a serious problem buying similar purses/shoes b/c I try to get a "look" that differs just slightly from what the original thing gives me. Seriously it takes me about 7 purchases to get it right. I'm incredibly superficial like that. So I regret about 9 pairs of shoes currently sitting in my laundry room...all black, leather, with a heel in some form.

AchtungBaby80 01-14-2004 12:10 AM

The other night, I was in Sam's Club and of course, I was starving. So I go strolling through the food section when I see this HUGE plastic thing of butter snap pretzels like the kind we used to have in the sorority house, and I got so nostalgic (and ravenous) that I bought them. I spent $6 on friggin' pretzels...but hey, at least they'll last a couple months. :p

sororitygirl2 01-14-2004 12:14 AM

Anything from American Eagle (I don't know what I was thinking to begin with, I've always been an A&F girl) - such poor quality.

All the junk food that's made me gain weight!

FiReKraCkEr 01-14-2004 12:18 AM

I ordered this dress from J.Crew, it was like $120 and I thought it would be really cute on me. Well, it was pretty to look at but my boobs wouldn't fit into it. After I lost some weight, it still wouldn't fit. So, I gave that sucker away to Goodwill, I'm sure someone less fortunate could use a nice dress.

absolutuscchick 01-14-2004 12:45 AM

Ummm lets see where do I start....

Yes....ugly skirts I got because they were cheap and have yet to wear them.
And then....a revolting paisley shirt I got at abercrombie like two years ago maybe..Every time I look at it I want to vomit. I was thinking about it and I've worn it once....and somehow this guy STILL dated me after seeing me in it....hmmm wonders never cease (oh yea...he is a total player so I guess he didnt care...)

put a bit of nail polish remover in the nailpolish bottle and shake it up. it sounds weird but i swear it works. i'm a glitter nail polish junkie.

i wish i had never bought some sweaters that are hanging in my closet. they're nice sweaters and all, but i never wear them because i can't decide if they're dress UP or dress DOWN....i'm weird like that.

Hootie 01-14-2004 01:14 AM

There are a few pieces of jewelry that I wish I'd never wasted my money on....but hell, when you get such a great discount it's hard to resist!

MeLikey 01-14-2004 06:50 AM

silver and navy liquid eyeliners, I never use liquid, but I thought the colors were cool so I bought them... should just stick with the Clinique Quick Liner....

Clinique foundation, I bought a new bottle thinking that I was at the end of my other bottle, but I really wasn't that bad off and by the time I was finished, the new bottle I had bought was too dark because I bought it when I had a tan, and so it no longer matched my shade.

I hate when that happens! I've heard of this foundation that you turn the dial and it matches your shade! It's by Models Prefer and you can get it on QVC.

the his and her watches i bought on auction last year.
they were on the 99 cent board at yahoo. but what do i do with them.

ThetaGrrl 01-14-2004 11:33 AM

My guitar.

I think my hands are too small to play it. Talk about buying something on a whim.

James 01-14-2004 11:49 PM

When I finished high school I bought this 800 dollar proffessional quality 35mm camera . . . Why?? Because it was a toy. Its too ncie to use in most settings and annoyingly bulky.

kappaloo 01-15-2004 12:16 AM

I wish I had never bought:

* a lot of my makeup. Half of it looks like crap on me and just sits in my drawer.
* my current scale. it sucks - you have to re-adjust it ever single time you use it, and who knows if it's reads correctly? But I spent $15 on it so I'm keeping it for some reason

juniorgrrl 01-15-2004 01:24 AM

A pair of jeans at Gap. I bought them in November, and they got too big on me in about 2 weeks. So I have $50 jeans that are too big and have been worn about 10 times or less.

Same goes for a pair of Old Navy jeans. Except they were way cheaper. But they're still too big.

I have a sweater from American Eagle, that I *think* is summer because its a loose weave and it seems like something you'd wear on the beach at night...it looks like ass on me. I'm not sure why I bought it other than it was on sale.

cashmoney 01-15-2004 01:32 AM

I bought the dvd "28 days later"....its horrible.

jh124 01-15-2004 01:49 PM

Where to begin?

~A buttload of makeup
~About half the clothes in my closet. Either I bought them too small, convinced that the weight I gained will disappear (it's true that it's so much harder to lose weight in your 30's), or I bought stuff on sale that looks terrible. I return a ton of stuff after I take it home, compare it to what I own and say "nope" - but it appears that I don't return enough.
~My house. I hate my house. I should be grateful to own one, yada yada yada. Yes, I know all that. Save the guilt trip. I sold a condo I loved for a house I hate.
~My wedding ring. Shouldn't have been cheap. Should have spent an extra $200 for slightly larger stones. Looks too small next to my engagement ring.
~Many many cds (although I don't own Ace of Base. But my husband does:rolleyes: at least it wasn't my money that was wasted)
~Random household stuff and kitchen gear

So much more. I have the worst case of buyers remorse, yet my house is continually filled with crap.:(

USFSDTAlum 01-15-2004 02:56 PM

Anything that i ever bought with my credit cards and am now in thousands of dollars of credit card debt.
Damn credit cards. Damn bad spending habits.

Oh I agree with this one!

Some of the clothes in my closet. It looked good on me in the store...but when you get it home it looks like crap...I really should start returning stuff

honeychile 01-15-2004 04:08 PM

Where to start? I have 6 virginal lawn chairs, tags still on them, waiting to see sunlight. A six pack of Cleveland Browns/Pittsburgh Steelers Iron City Beer. I don't drink beer - well, not Iron City. Two ready-to-stain or paint chests - I love them, I will not part with them - but I'm starting to dispair that I'll never actually paint or stain them! Books, books, and more books - somehow, I have never clearly taken the concept of a library to heart, and feel that I must buy every book I read. Especially if it's rare, and I can only get it through an online rare book service & pay over $50. Yellow stationery that I will NEVER use, lest someone would erroneously think I like yellow. Pants too big in the hips, sweaters too tight across the bust, and underwear that would make a hooker blush - why, oh, why do I do this?!?!?!?!?!

*sigh*

Honey, you can probably unload that on ebay and make some $$$!!

Peaches-n-Cream 01-15-2004 04:30 PM

I bought two pairs of Calvin Klein jeans in a size too big. I didn't realize Atkins would work. So these jeans sit in my drawers with the tags on in case I gain the weight back. Also I was redecorating my bedroom and bought full size sheets and a comforter not realizing that I would buy a Queen sized bed. I might ebay them because the sheets are cute.

wishinhopin 01-15-2004 07:24 PM

Ladies ladies ladies! Do NOT waste your money on makeup that doesn't work out once you get it home. Most of the major cosmetics lines, as well as quite a few drug stores, have very flexible return options. When I worked at the Clinique counter at Macys, for instance, we could accept back any Clinique product, even if it wasn't purchased at Macy's. And even if it didn't have the packaging, but I strongly recommend hanging on to the original packaging, any sort of store sticker/label designating where it was purchased (I know Macy's and Nordstrom's put CRL stickers on to prove it's from their store), and the receipt. This being said, please don't show up and try to return something that is obviously well used and you just want to exchange it for a full one. It is tacky and bad karma. Not that I think anyone here would do that of course, but it's a situation I have encountered! But seriously, makeup companies know that once you get it home it often isn't the same for you, so don't feel like you're stuck with that eyeliner forever! Also a good idea to ask when you buy it.

tinydancer 01-15-2004 11:07 PM

Shoes that hurt my feet!!! That's why I have a ba-zillion pairs of shoes around the house but I only wear 3 or 4 pairs of them. Yeah, that's right ... they are the ones that don't hurt!;)

Thanks for your post! Maybe I'll try to exchange the foundation I bought for the eyeliner I'm always stocking up on from Clinique... I just wasn't sure if I should do it with Macy's because it has a barcode on the box, but when I was buying makeup there I told the woman and she was like you should try to bring it back, eh, maybe I'll just keep it for the summer, hopefully it should match my skin tone when I'm tan.

Thanks! I should look into that!

I had a cheap little fountain that lasted a few months before it leaked on the bottom and ruined my night table. I had to throw it out. I should have bought a better one instead.

I also have a little lamp that I only used it on the day that I bought it and haven't used it since. Before leaving for Florida, I unplugged it and never replugged it.
