About AIM Chats

A bunch of us, myself included, are SICK of seeing fights from AIM chats being brought into these forums. I'm sorry it if it seems like I'm picking on the people involved in the latest battle. I'm not. There have been several occasions before this where AIM chat fights have escalated into GC.

Please use this little phrase:
"What happens in AIM chat, stays in AIM chat."

If you have a disagreement with someone on AIM, keep the disagreement there. If you can't possibly do that, PM them. People who are not involved do not need to hear about it. You get a bunch of people involved that shouldn't be. It's not fair to everyone else. There is no defense as to why an AIM fight should be brought into this forum so, please, don't make up one.

I know this has been mentioned before. I think 33girl has made a post about it and people are STILL bringing their fights into GC.

You wanna know why GC has gone down the crapper in the past couple of months? It's because of these chats. Rumors and gossip spread and then are brought into the forums.

I'm not asking you all to stop the chats as I can see many people enjoy them but I am asking you all to STOP BRINGING ISSUES FROM THESE CHATS INTO THE GC FORUMS.

These disagreements don't involve Greekchat as whole so they have no place here.

Thanks,
The Bitchy Moderator

Cosign. There's enough drama as it is, is there a need for chat drama?

There's always room for two bitchy moderators. mwhahaha! ;)

Perhaps this could have been discussed in PMs with the involved parties instead of bringing AIM drama onto Greekchat.

Imagine that!

Thats EXACTLY why I dont participate in the chats anymore(though I was never that huge a fan of them anyway) and why I'm only on GC twice a day anymore for a short period of time at most. That's all I'll say about that.

Dionysus 01-06-2004 11:12 AM

I have a better idea. Let's put this into reverse. Let's take all of the board fights to the aim chats. There it is unmoderated. So there will be no more drama about mods deleting things. If one misses an aim fight, they can have someone copy and paste the fights and forward it to PMs.

:D

The thing is, though..is that this isn't an isolated problem that involves just the two parties in the recent battle.

I thought that the post was a good reminder to us all, not just them.

PM_Mama00 01-06-2004 12:15 PM

Yes I apologize for going over the edge last nite, however Sandy is right and this included everyone in the chat and I have no clue who that would be and I wanted to let all those people know that. So again I apologize.

Sorry this is a repeat topic. Please merge. And for once I have never agreed more with Munchkin. For most of us, Greekchat isn't our lives and we would rather just not hear about all this drama you guys have in your "lives". And I find it funny how you all got upset at AIM chats but not the trash talking and fighting that goes on in the mod forum.

ztawinthropgirl 01-06-2004 12:29 PM

I totally agree with this! That's why a few of us that don't desire to read the drama in the chat rooms have branched into another chatroom. We have a no drama chat unless someone infiltrates! What a concept! No Drama! :D

I don't like reading about drama that happened in a chat room the night before, etc. in the GC boards. It's time to grow up ya'll! Yes, I am breaking out the Southern slang! :D

Rudey,

I interpreted Munchkin as saying Phyllis and Craig and whoever the other person is could have sent PMs to each other, rather than making an open topic about it. But I have a different interpretation of "The One I Love" too, so what do I know. :)

I would have started that other thread even if I wasn't a mod. Being a mod (or the state of relationships between mods) has nothing to do with all the AIM crap that has gotten transferred here.

Heh heh. Yup, I got invited to that no drama chat room once. Still, only got invited one time. :D

absolutuscchick 01-06-2004 01:27 PM

All the drama is exactly why I've stopped talking in the GC on AIM chats.

Peaches-n-Cream 01-06-2004 01:32 PM

I guess I am out of the loop, but I didn't know that this was a big problem on GC. I really never understood how or why someone could dislike someone so much based on what they typed on GC or in a chat.

Jen 01-06-2004 02:03 PM

You know, for those of us that have NO idea what's going on, these posts don't really help to foster that community feeling.

I don't post much on GC anymore because everyone seems to have their little outside groups and in jokes, cliques and private chatting areas, but no problem with telling everyone they have these things. Those of us that aren't involved really love that exclusivity. So thanks!

Can everyone just take ALL the crap outside...and leave it there?

That's what ZTAngel is trying to say...so I really hope you're not upset with her for doing it.

For all who want to know, there was a post in CC where someone said what happened on AIM is this and that etc etc. This is in response to that thread and asking that people don't do things like that anymore - and also if they are fighting with Joe on AIM to just stay away from Joe on GC.

James 01-06-2004 11:54 PM

I am with you Cream. Also, i miss all the good chats obviously. There never seems any drama when I am on there.

I don't really notice any drama starters on the chat--but I have the most notorious ones on Ignore, so if there were problems, I would not have noticed.

James 01-07-2004 12:04 AM

Does ignore work in chat ?

Peaches-n-Cream 01-07-2004 12:06 AM

I think so, James.

Yes it does James. I have 4 people currently ignored, and I don't see anything they type when I'm in chat. I know that drama's going on when those not ignored on my BL type things in retaliation.

There is as much drama on GC as there is in the chats. Probably more. Although granted I haven't been chatting very much lately, when I did there was not all that much drama -- it's just that for some reason people felt the need to bring ALL the drama onto GC. Leave it for your friends' only posts on LJ, kids. ;)

I agree that people need to keep their AIM drama on AIM. And I also agree that AIM has caused the recent "downfall" of GC -- but not for the reasons mentioned above. I talk to all the GCers I really want to talk to on AIM, either in the occasional chat or more often, individually. I don't need to come onto GC to find that "community" feeling that it used to have because the community feeling has moved off GC and onto AIM because it's a more personal form of communication. It's human nature to form divisions and cliques and inside jokes, and it's not like none of that happened before AIM chats -- it's just that now it takes place off GC and people are realizing how much they really weren't/aren't included.

Although I think that if you're worried about being "left out" on an online message board, your social life probably has more issues than any of us can help you with. :p

Exactly, it takes place off GC, and that's where it should stay (good and bad).

AEPhiSierra 01-07-2004 12:43 PM

I keep on reading about all this drama on GC. As a GC user who doesn't really post in chit chat that much I find that the only way an average GC user finds about all this drama is through posts specifically whining about there being too much drama or asking to stop the drama. I have been actively reading and posting on greek chat for about 5 or 6 months (though I have been a member longer) and don't really understand most of the drama references you are making and I am sure I am not alone on this. If drama starts in chat rooms leave it in the chat rooms. If someone tries to bring the drama on the boards ignore them. And try to stop bringing more attention to it with post like this - PM exists for a reason.

I am saying this because I feel the main problem with GC right now is a certain level of cliqueyness that I see existing. And while it doesn't appear to be purposeful it is there. For the casual user is often hard to get into GC because its hard to get into "the know" and get over the initial feeling of being an outsider on the board. For example, I see junior members post new threads and older users immediately post links tersely saying this was discussed already with the link. And while this is being done to be helpful for the "unitiated" this comes of as kind of harsh when they are unfamiliar with gc etiquette. Inside jokes or references on the general board when a new gc'er has posted asking for advice can also make feel new gc'ers feel excluded or unwelcomed

Please don't take this as an attack on GC or the more active members. My experience with GC has always been very enjoyable. Just keep in mind (particular outside of the chit chat on the general boards) that many readers may not be very familar with greek chat. Pay attention to users post counts when you're respond to their posts, they're there for a reason.

I think the reason you don't see girls jumping into this is b/c we have no place here- my only logical way to jump into the coversation would be to 1)say craig is/isn't hot or balding 2) say i like or hate jews or 3) insult or stick up for Russell. Most of us know Craig's comment was ridiculous and don't need to post that to make it clear.

Craig, as someone whose highschool was 79% Jewish, believe me there are annoying Jews. There are also just as many annoying Christians and good people in both religions. I think it's an epidemic- it's called being a person. Unless you see someone wearing a yamulke eating at seder, you cannot say their acting Jewish. And let's just say you can....let's say you have the right to say that....there is no way you didn't know that wouldn't offend someone. Let's say your comment was just A.O.K Fabulous....well then you know people on here are oversensitive....I'm hoping you can see how your actions make you look like you were just looking for a fight.

I believe Kitso actually has a point, but that doesn't really matter. Everyone knows this thread is going to either get locked/erased and probably carried over someone else until russ and craig get banned, which is another reason no ones jumping in.

And decadence.....the secret's out.....your posts are crap and you have sex w/men, although in Russell's defense I'm sure it wasn't with him. Really though.

Thanks- Jules' rating for this thread is THUPER GHEY.

Edited b/c my post won't be taken seriously unless I add a lil PIR love...and what a hottie he is!!!!
