Oh great you Idiot!!

At the end of MTV's True Life a second ago, they played a little blurb for the new season. The blurb had a fraternity guy in his letters popping adderall while the announcer says something about abusing adderall.

Next time you want to be on tv to show your drug habits, how about you take off your letters?

mullet81 01-05-2004 04:27 PM

i totally saw that too and thought "IDIOT!!!"

PhiPsiRuss 01-05-2004 04:28 PM

was it a national GLO?

JennRN 01-05-2004 04:30 PM

OMG, I just saw that too!! I was like-you're doing that in your letters on freaking national TV??

I think it was Theta Chi?

33girl 01-05-2004 04:35 PM

I'm having a brain fart...what does adderall do? Isn't it a prescription drug?

Not that that makes the habit any better, but at least he isn't on tv freebasing cocaine.

sugar and spice 01-05-2004 04:38 PM

And there was the frat guy on "True Life: I'm a Binge Drinker" too.

For some reason I don't think these kids are too concerned with not promoting the Greek stereotypes.

Its a federally controlled stimulant used to treat ADD.

To add to that, if someone takes it that doesn't have ADD, it pretty much acts like speed or crystal meth. I've heard of lots of moms taking their kids' adderall to keep things going.

meridionaleDG 01-05-2004 04:42 PM

People use it as speed or to concentrate better on tests. People with eating disorders also use it because it decreases appetite.

It is a perscription drug, but there are different levels. Adderall is a lot higher up on the schedules than say an antibiotic or something.

People take it recreationally. Some simply swallow the pill, others crush it and snort it, and still others shoot it up. Chances are he was taking it recreationally--for a cocaine-like high, or to stay up during midterms or finals--than to treat ADD.

ETA: MeridonaleDG said basically the same thing while I was submitting this. Oh well. :)

In the 70's it was a reall popular thing to take for body builders to cut before a big competition. Large doses, really screwed with your behavior, "Roid rages".

AOII*Azra-elle 01-05-2004 08:24 PM

Well, in that True Life I'm a Binge Drinker there was one girl that had learned her lesson from drinking and had to go to court. Until it airs, he may be one of the people that have to have adderal for ADD/ADHD. Just because we see doesn't mean that he's abusing it....

Just a thought.

KDbutterfly 01-05-2004 09:24 PM

That's so weird that they're doing a True Life story on it, cause that drug is totally going around a few fraternities on my campus. I was dating a guy in one of the fraternities, and I couldn't believe how he and quite a few others in his house abused that drug. I never understood why they thought they needed it to keep up with their homework. That's so stupid that the guy was in his letters, but at the same time, I can say from experience that prescription drugs have a way of going around fraternity houses. I'll definitely tune in to that episode when it's on.

Aderall is common everywhere.

Funny you mention that... the frat guy on that True Life goes to UM. I met him at his frat's party, and they're actually very proud of that fact- they brag about it at every opportunity. Pretty sad.

It's just a statement as to the calibre of people fraternities attract. Self-regulate and you won't have that problem.

Greekopedia 04-09-2006 04:58 PM

wow... that totally sucks

macallan25 04-09-2006 06:31 PM

If you brag about taking adderol like its some great thing then you are a flaming douchebag. Go do a real drug fag.

Pilfer 04-10-2006 01:35 AM

Adderall is pretty common it helps you study and usually at least on my campus you hear everyone talking about adderall around finals week. It is disturbingly common to take it recreationally tho too.

True Life: I have ADD and I'm taking meds for it so it's ok.

Wow, that sounds like about 2 minutes of barely worth watching TV. Now, what are they going to do with the other 28 min. minus commercial time??

OF COURSE he's abusing it or it wouldn't be on MTV.

Why are all these really old threads popping up all of the sudden?

Because the newest of the trollquishas decided to resurrect them.
