Weird Habits...Have any?
So I did a search and I couldnt find a thread or topic on "weird or odd habits"...
SO! Do you have any weird or unusual habits that other people find different or you just can't live a day without becuase you're so used to doing it?? OR...do you or did you have a roommate or friend who had weird or annoying habits??? MINE is that I can't fall asleep at night without white noise, so I usually have a fan next to my bed, even if its 10 degrees outside. And if I'm staying at someones place or vacationing, I always can't fall asleep because I don't have white noise...so weird!! I also had a roommate in college who used to have this fear of open closet doors at night. It wasn't a big deal for me at all, but everynight before she went to bed, she would be sure to close my closet door because she had this childhood fear of things jumping out at night or something... Weird.... |
Ok here is mine. I can't go to sleep wihout washing my feet. My family is all military so clean feet were a major issue. I would fall a asleep but wake up knowing somehthing was off. So get up and put my feet in the tube with some soap and wash them. Then I take me feet out, dry them and then but some lotion on them and then off to bed I am.
I do this in the day; like I will get off from school and wash my feet before I get ready to go to work. Christia |
I also cannot go to bed without having clean feet.
I also can't sleep without having the TV on mute. I don't know why, but my closed eyelids need some kind of stimulation in order to go to bed. The not-BF can't sleep without having ESPN radio on so you can imagine how it is when he and I try to go to sleep. With every fresh new pack of cigarettes I always turn the first one upside down. Most people call it their lucky, but I just do it out of habit now. I also get a lot of weird stares when I'm at the beach. I meditate before I go out surfing. |
i can't fall asleep without the tv on either.. i use to have to have it on all night, but now i just need to fall asleep with it on just set the sleep timer.
|
If hubby is home I have to turn the TV off to sleep - not because he needs it that way, but if he's not home I have to sleep with it on but muted
|
I have to make sure my closet doors are closed when I sleep, it makes my room feel more open and apparently I need that when I sleep. (I don't know, I am weird) I also have to crack the tops of my feet (yes you read it right) before I do anything else in the morning otherwise I feel offbalance the whole day.

I post on GC all the time...
|
This is a very weird habit, borderline paranoi....
But everytime I hear a plane flying above me, I have the need to look at it. I might be talking to someone and just look at the sky and just follow it with my eyes and sometimes get distracted as I do.....I guess 9/11 had a profound effect on me....actually, i used to do this before...but more so now. |
i have to have the tv on when i fall asleep. i usually shut it off in the middle of the night without realizing it. also, if i have to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, i have to turn my light on when i walk back into my bedroom just to look around, then i turn it off and walk to my bed.

I'm the same about the white noise - hubby sleeps with a fan on anyway (even if it is 10 degrees outside - sorry, forgot I'm in Florida, so it's not 10 degrees where I am) and I've gotten so used to it that I find it hard to sleep without it. He even leaves it on for me when he goes to work in the mornings. . . And about the open closet doors - I always make sure my closet door and bathroom door are closed as well. Not afraid of things jumping out at night, but it just seems that if they're open, there's this "black hole" in the middle of the room. :( |
I can not go on a road trip that I am driving without 3 things:
1.) Joshua (my beanie baby like monkey - I"ve had him for almost 8 years now) 2.) my Bible - it always stays in the car with me during trips 3.) one Large McDonald's coke I don't know what it is.... but I have to have these 3 things. And my monkey Joshua has to sit in the passenger seat. :D |

Ok.
I never really thought I was weird. But, since I have been with my husband, he has advised me that I am a freak:) I eat pizza with two forks. I cannot stand touching the pizza. I use one fork to hold the pizza and another to sort of tear it apart. I also have a fear of mold/bacteria/fungae, etc. I refuse to keep anything in our fridge longer than 7 days. (This means jelly, ketchup, anything...) I have antibacterial hand gel at all times. I make sure to use antibacterial dish soap, etc. I have to anti-mildew the shower once a week. I have a routine that I go through each and EVERY time I leave the house: check heaters, stove, lights, door locks. And, I have to check the door to see if I locked it at least twice. Perhaps I have a mild form of OCD where the routine and mold issues are concerned:) |
I sleep with a (satin) pillow under my head, and another one over my head.
|
Munchkin,
I sleep with a pillow on my head as well as under my head, too! (Although, it's not a satin pillow.)lol |
This is ultra weird and this habit formed only last year... the sides of my underware have to be hiked up... now I know this can't really be done when I'm wearing low riders, but when I'm at home I need to pull them up for some reason, not that they fall down they just need to be up. My sister in fact just called me weird for doing it today, she was like don't you have weggies? But I don't....
|
When I go to bed my curtains must be pulled completely shut...not even a sliver of light coming in. This is due to a very frightening dream I had as a child.
I also have to tuck the covers under my feet and (unless I'm really tired) make sure my hair is covering my ear. And (unless I stay at Mr 33's) I have to have music on to go to sleep. This is especially important at my dad's in the middle of nowhere since my home here in Pgh is next to a major highway and I've gotten used to the sound of cars. I will only drink milk out of a glass glass or a mug...never out of a plastic cup. |

thought of another one!
I have another one that I just thought of!! WEll, actually , my ex boyfriend has a weird habit. He had a small mirror placed on the shower wall under the shower head that he used to shave his face in the mornings to save time getting ready for work or class. Every morning after he finishes shaving he barks (yes like a dog)in the mirror at himself to "get him ready for the day". I can only imagine what his roommates thought...

w-e-i-r-d
I find myself locking my car doors (again) before I make any sharp turns.
(I've never been in a serious car accident)...? |
*I have this thing where I stick my tongue out a little bit when I am thinking REALLY hard.*
I've tried to catch myself from doing it, but I can't seem to stop. My friends say it's 'cute', I think it's horrid! |
I have to have my feet sticking out from the bottom of the covers to sleep...my roommates make fun.
|
I gag myself with my toothbrush when I brush my teeth. Not like I'm trying to throw up or anything, I just brush my tongue so far back, that I end up gagging. It freaks my family out when I'm at home.
|
I always sleep with my fan on, even when it's 0.
I usually need my tv on too. I rarely touch anything in public restrooms with my bare hands. I use paper towels to touch things with. Whenever I get textbooks, I try to get new ones, despite the price. I have this thing about dirty old textbooks. (Today I had no choice, all of the books were used! The process of finding the cleanest ones took like 20 minutes) I hold my breath whenever I walk through crowds. I don't want to get the flu by inhaling their germs! Whenever someone starts coughing, I get away from them as far as possible! Before I step out of a car, I peep at the ground to check for vomit. I have had the unfortunate experience of stepping in it once...ewwwwww! |
Weirdness......
I count everything in seven's and I always try to find some sort of combination of red, white, and blue in everything. For instance: You have on a pink shirt and blue jeans. Pink = red + white, blue jeans = blue. EX: I see a blue care with black tires and white writing. black = red, writing = white, blue = blue, No idea where the hell I came up with this, but I find myself ALWAYS doing it, now more so the sevens. I'll be watching TV at home and will count the sofa pillows, 12345, and then the sofa is 6, and then the pillows and sofa is 7. Cant explain it. Super weird and I do it all of the freakin time. I can't stop myself. |
Yeah. I stay up much later than I should knowing I have to be up the next morning. Is that a wierd habit or just being self destructive? :(
|
Dionysus-I rarely touch anything in public restrooms with my bare hands. I use paper towels to touch things with.
This is sooo me. Straddle the door-elbow-foot anything to hold it open so I can toss the paper towel in the can. Some places have a trash can on the outer side of bathroom doors. I appreciate that! Odds-I like things in odd numbers, especially decorating and displays. My sister is WAY more concerned with "evens". When I'm angry I'll walk around talking or muttering to myself all the things I WANT to say to the person who has upset me. I do not do this in public-except perhaps the car. Actually, it gets funny because Hubby's hearing is not too good and he'll follow me around and ask, "Are you talking about MMMMMMMEEEEEEE?" I KNOW he misses most of what I'm saying, so I can say it and get it off my chest without causing a big fight. |
Okay, here's my wierd one...
When I'm thinking really, really hard about a conversation that I'm either planning to have or am remembering, I'll sometimes unconsiously say my part out loud. This unfortunately tends to happen when I'm in public, and blurt out a random sentence. Embarassing! |
No, I'm perfectly normal.
Right. |
