Holiday Stress Thread
This thread is for everyone who's home for the holidays and needs to unload. Me first....
Sugar Free Reese's Cups: they're assy, but thanks to familial holiday stress, I just polished off about 10 of them. *le sigh* I miss MisterMadly, the air mattress I have to sleep on has a slow leak (making me have to get up in the middle of the night to re-fill it), and my family dragged my heathen behind off to church tonight under false pretenses. I need a hug. |
I miss mr. jharb and being at school. I also miss my computer at school because this laptop realllllly sucks...:( I'm also sick of watching christmas specials with my mom and feeling like I'm back in grade school.
I talked to my boy tonight for over an hour and it just made me miss him more. Can't I just not come home for the holidays? :( |
I'm stressed out as well. I'm so broke, but I can't stop spending money. I'm like addicted to shopping. It's bad. And I can't afford to buy everyone gifts. Oh well.....
|
My main stress is coming from missing my boyfriend and we've been seperated for like a day. I am pathetic what can I say! I don't know why it feels like it's already been weeks since I last saw him, but ::sigh:: I miss him so much.
I also don't have a present for my brother for Christmas b/c he has EVERYTHING KNOWN TO MAN and I don't wtf to get him!!! :( I wish I could come home just for Christmas and go back to school right after... |
THANK YOU Sistermadly, great idea for a thread!
My online orders are late and I missed the drop off for some in-laws. Now I'll have to MAIL them-UGH! Not pleased with some of my purchases. Haven't planned the menues-cooking Christmas Eve and Day! STILL no gift for my sister. Don't know how I'm going to pull this one together. Still don't "feel" it... Think Christmas HAS gone too commercial-but then, I created my own demons on that! I want to cry.:( |

I wish I had someone for the holidays. But on the bright side, it's one less present I have to buy! I'm not feeling stressed right now. Work is easy. I will be feeling stressed on wednesday though. I'm taking the 24th off and will have to run around with my mum all day doing last minute christmas shopping/groceries/baking etc. I have to wrap all the presents this year...except my own (but it wouldn't surprise me if I had to wrap my own anyway). *hugs* to everyone!! |
I don't think I've ever been so un-excited about Christmas in my life. I still have to get presents for half my family but since I work like every single day, that's not really possible.
|
We're nearly halfway through Hanukkah, and Christmas is three days away. So far it isn't looking good for aephi alum...
I have no freaking CLUE what to get for my husband. I still owe him a birthday gift too. I'm in the process of making two cross-stitch trivets - one for my parents, one for my in-laws. I've finished one and just started on the other. I think my in-laws will be getting their trivet for their anniversary... My house is only about half decorated. We have an electric menorah in the window (a nice one, not one of those cheesy ones with the orange bulbs). I also put electric candles in each of the other front-facing windows. Are they out yet? A resounding NO! :p I want to get a new laptop, and I want to get it before year end so I can take it off this year's taxes. I got all the way through to the "confirm your order" page when the server decided it was down. (Actually, if the reliability of their servers is any indication, maybe I should get my laptop elsewhere... :p ) |
I have no holiday stress... except packing.
Leave for Winter Park, Colorado tommorow. All gifts are purchased. |

Have to finish packing, going to AZ tomorrow night to visit my parents. Normally, this annual trip is nice and relaxing and just the 3 of us. Lay in the sun, shop with mom a little, watch movies, and do nothing. Not bad. THIS YEAR, it appears my dad's sister and all of her kids will also be down (cousin in Tucson) so my nice stress free vacation just went to the dogs. I think two are even staying at my parents house. Which I think means I get to sleep in the study (which has NO door) and wake up on mom and dad's early schedule since they won't much care. You'd think retired folks could sleep in a little. Almost wish I was just staying here....... |
Great thread!
-I am stressed because I have to pack not only my clothes in a bag to fly home but all of my presents including the silver wine holder from pottery barn i got my dad that ways a small ton!! And now its an ORANGE alert, so that will make flying even more fun I am slightly in the holiday spirit but as soon as I hit Florida tommorow, I will be MISS CHRISTMAS CHEER!! |
Bless MisterMadly's heart for calling me before I go to sleep and when he wakes up in the morning, but his calls are just making me miss him more.
I had a dream that I won the lottery, flew him down here and then took off to Costa Rica by ourselves for Christmas. It seemed so real that when I woke up this morning I actually cried because it was a dream. This is the most miserable Christmas ever. :( |
Yeah, I'm just not in the Christmas spirit this year. Of course, I never really am...
It's Dec 22 and I've bought 3 presents. I still need several more for my mom, one more for my fiance (which I have NFC what it will be - we were supposed to skip presents and get a MiniDV cam - turns out we're doing both!) I also need to get something for my mother-in-law to be...I'm thinking something cheesy like a picture frame with a picture of FI and me as babies (yes, we have one) and leave the other side blank for the wedding picture). Oh, I also realized today I should give presents to the partners in my firm. I am SO cutting out of here early today! |
My main stress is having nothing to do until mid January when school starts again.

Just don't touch the holy water and you'll be OK. :p Think of this as racking up good karma points. --add |
Thanks for the hug, Adrienne. I kept telling my mom and sister that they should've taken a handi-vac with them to church for when I turned into a pile of ash after being struck by lightning. ;)
It's too bad though - I kind of went in there with an open mind, and had everything that I don't like about churches/religion reinforced within the first hour. The music was good, though. |
I am stessed about being home. I love my family to death, but they still do not realize that the majority of the time I live by myself and I can take care of myself and get things done on my own. UGH!:o
|
I'm getting more stressed...back in November I had a slight run in with my car and am finally getting it fixed...BUT...I might not have my car for TWO WHOLE WEEKS!!!  My insurance won't give me a rental car either b/c I'm not 21!!
Why can't the holidays be better?!? |
This Christmas should be made into a movie and titled "When Good Families Go Bad."
I should preface this by saying that I love my family. They are all wonderful people, but Christmas is always a rough time of the year for all of us. This year seems to be shaping up to be one of the worst, though. It's not helping that I am trying to bring up going away to graduate school, either. Oh, and I'm joining the invisible man group. Mr. Cluey needs to hurry up and get here, pronto. |
Too blessed to be stressed... Stressed spelled backwards in desserts
I am having MIL HELL... The B is psycho... Trippin' 'cuz I havta see my close to 90 year of g'mom that lives 30 minutes away...
Oh, everybody lives in Florida, too... And my flight is dayum near 6 hours. Thank God I bought Mr. AKA_Monet that portable DVD player for his birthday!!! And we's lucky that we even could purchase the dayum tickets... I hate being stripped search... But the best thing is purchasing most of my gifts on line and having the automatically shipped to their destinations... Then the if it had not been for the UPS store, life would truly suck... However, I ain't gonna Grinch somebody's Holidays... Let's just remember the reasons for the seasons... |
AKA_Monet, you are soooooo lucky! MY GIFTS STILL HAVEN'T ARRIVED!!!
So, I went out and bought MORE! Got home and the lady who put it in the box must have SHOVED it in...one is BROKEN! Went around the neighborhood delivering candy, tripped and FELL. RUINED my best black wool pants! Busted my behind as well. Couldn't find whipping cream at KROGERS! What grocery store runs out of CREAM during the holidays? No cooking string either!!! Found some cream but still no string!!! Son rolls in at 3:45-wakes me up-can't go back to sleep, but the pies almost done! NEXT Christmas, I want to leave town and find a cabin in the woods! |

Starting last weekend... Mom's side Christmas get together hour away. Tried to get apartment settled for family visits. Father arrives to half organized apartment. Helped my father do his shopping. Brother needed to go to emergency room, his jaw looked like a grapefruit settled in for the holidays. Trying to finish my shopping. Getting everything wrapped. Was up until 3am wrapping Santa gifts. Still surrounded by boxes. Getting Dad to airport today. Sister and Bro-in-law arrive tomorrow. Other sister has wicked flu. Mom is upset because we haven't done anything with her while Dad was visiting. Not sure if out of town relatives got their gifts, haven't had time to call them. The worst of all... Haven't taken my munchkin to get picture with Santa this year. I have got like three hours left, and I am stuck at work until 2pm. :( I put the tree up on Monday. At least that is something! It will be pretty to look at while I drink myself into oblivian Thursday night. ;) |

At the ST family home
I was prepared to be in mad hostile mode. Why? We were going to have a guest who I don't care for -- my nephew's female companion's child. Not coming. Thank Goodness.

Yep, I am SO over xmas. I swear I think the city of Lewisville shut down at 6 p.m. today. What do us last minute shoppers do?????? So I have no stocking stuffers for my roomies, and no gift for GuyRoomie. Grrr I HATE christmas. Thank goodness it is almost over. Random-Anyone out there know anything about Simon & Garfunkel the group?? GuyRoomie is like the #1 fan-Yes, I know he needs to get out more. I still need his gift!! |
Simon and Garfunkel were one of THE best duo performers-
Excellent singers/songwriters. Mrs. Robinson, Bridge over Troubled Water, Cathy's Song...the list goes on and on. They have several albums including a live performance in Central Park. I like their studio cuts better though. http://freespace.virgin.net/r.kent/ Christmas Eve went well, but the brother-in-law found a way to make it uncomfortable. Called over here first thing this a.m. griping about Son and Hubby holding up the golf game. T-time was set for 9:00. He called at 8:40! He does this every time. Tonight it's MY side thank heaven! I am betting he shows up though... :( The gifts arrived...of course, he goes..."So basically, you gave me a toy?" He has NEVER given anyone in this family a gift at Christmas NO BIGGIE. This year he kept telling me what he was giving everyone ahead of time. He spent more than he should and I told him EACH TIME that it was WAY too much! I guess he thought we would spend the same on him! WHY does everything have to come down to a price tag for some people? Good grief if I added up all the food I've stuffed into his face and all the gifts we have given him he needs to sell his stock if he wants to play "even stevens". I honestly can not stand him-that's an awful thing to say about someone you are going to see the rest of your life... |
Ooooh, I'm starting to relax now although we still haven't had the big meal or the grand family gift unwrapping. It's downhill from here because Mr. Carnation and I finished setting out the Santa gifts last night at 3:22 AM. :)
We thought we were done buying presents and then ASLFRose came to us and asked if her 3-year boyfriend could stay with us over Christmas as both his parents had to work Christmas Day. Aieeee! We love that boy and went out Christmas Eve and shopped madly for him. Now I'm gonna go chill with some cocoa while the pumpkin pies are baking.... |
I have to spend Christmas with my two faced extended family. One of whom I found out a few months ago reads my Lj and prints out my entries.
My mom cooks all this seafood for other people and doesn't think about me. So what do I get? Chicken strips and corn she threw in the microwave. My sis in law gave my 97 yr old grandma corn and peas, and she's not supposed to eat vegetables. That'll be a nice mess to clean up. Thank God it's not my responsibility. Then my cousin asks where the "quiet one" is... aka my asshole Uncle who lives with my grandma but does shit. Aunt Lj Printer Bitch mumbles "who phyllis".... you damn bitch I'm sorry if I don't feel good and I'm not talking. I got up from the table and left. And who's fault is everything? Mine. Cuz I'm hard to please. I'd like to take this time to give my whole family the finger. |
The Holiday crap is winding down and I'm glad it's pretty much over.
I didn't really start my Christmas shopping till this past weekend and I really wish I didn't wait so late. Most of the gifts for the friends ended up being gift certificates and giftcards to their favorite stores. TC's gift was the one that gave me the most stress. Most of the stores at the mall didn't carry his size so I had to trek it to Waikiki's Niketown. God bless old friends from HS who hook it up with the discount. I don't bother wrapping Xmas gifts because I'm too lazy, but I always go all out for the kids because they like to open stuff. So I spent an extra $20 to get someone else to wrap the gifts. Last night no one made comments about my weight, which was good. Everyone seems to love their gifts so far...I haven't opened mine yet. So..in a few hours I'll be roasting with my beer at the game. Kickoff's at 3PM HST and it'll be on ESPN. It's UH vs. UH! Go TC! |
OTW, do not turn into a Beer Barrel, would not look good on you!:)
Carol, what can I say Love! pm-mama, yep remember the good ole days too! This time 5 hr drive to and fro. not bad in 1 1/2 day give or take! Dad and I were alone for Christmas Eve, boring as hell! Smoked more than at the Smoke Shop. Brother was gone that night. Hell He and I even carried along a conversation more than a paragraph. Took a tour around Home Town, well for @ 30 min. I have come to the conclusion from what we all klnow about the Holidays, that screw the Damn Relatives, and lets just have one for us GCers. No gifts, just Christmas Cheer and being with Our Friends!:D Hell, we may as well be related, damn, We fight like it!:D |
We had a happy ending to the Christmas saga!
MY side had a blast. We were laughing all night long. There was enough food to feed an army and it was sooooooo good. Picked up a new recipe that screams calories!!! Played Taboo after dinner and boy were the cuss words flying- Do you know how hard it is to NOT say a word on one of those lists? So funny! The GOOD brother-in-law dropped by for a short visit. My family really likes him. All's well that ends well! Next Christmas, my nieces go to their Dad's family. THAT's why I want to leave town. I dread the day Christmas will be without young people due to their own traditions, extended families or location... It was good to hear that others tried the Christmas escape. I told Hubby that you guys said it was great. Maybe there's a shot! Now, we can look forward to NEW YEARS EVE!!! |
oh my word. my bf and i spent four hours at the mall today. we did some shopping but the four hours were due to the chaotic crowds. it was so hard to walk around. i wanted to scream. but i got some great sales. i bought a pair of Sketchers boots that was marked down from $54.99 to $17.99!! and the best thing about it was that i didnt even know they were on sale until i was at the register. boy was i shocked!!
