How do you know it's Spring?

There are special things for each of us that remind us of the change in seasons. What is it that lets YOU know that Spring (or warmer weather in general) is here?

For me, it is a few different things. When I was in high school, it was dudes on the basketball court. ALL the fine dudes came out when it got warm to hoop! And all the fast girls would be right on the side lines, LOL! We also knew it was warm back then when the cars with bangin' systems (Irocs, Blazers, 9-8's, Park Avenues, etc.) and tinted windows were just out, cruisin' and bumpin' Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince's "Summertime."

Now college... You knew the weather broke when all 150 Black folks were outside!! Chillin' on the Crenshaw wall (that's what we nicknamed it), somebody had their car stereo on for us to chill to, and we'd be eating Chillers (Wittenberg's name for Blizzards) and chillin'. Man, those were the days!!!

Fast forward to present day. I now realize that the weather has broken when I can wear lighter clothes to work. No more boots. And I don't have to get up earlier in the morning to let the car heat up and windows defrost! LOL!

So, what about you? What lets you know that Springtime is here?

How do you know it's Spring in New York?

By the snow storms and below freezing temperatures...By the way gloves and heavy coats have to be dug out of the bag marked "Winter Stuff" that you stored away when you THOUGHT Spring had actually arrived.

I know it's Spring when I can rise with the sun and not in total darkness.

LOL! I'm so confused. Like on Monday in NYC, it snowed all morning and by the afternoon the sun was out and streets were dry. If it wasn't for the fact that it's still daylight at 6pm, I'd still believe that spring was months away. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

My dog needs his Advantage for fleas.

When I am awaken at 5:30am to the music of birds. They don't seem to stop until I get out of bed and then suddenly I don't hear them.

Also, when my two favorite ducks make an annual visit to my back yard looking for their bread crumbs.:D :p

CountryGurl 03-20-2003 12:40 PM

1. Kids fighting at the bus stop after school (I live in the hood)
2. Springfest events on campus
3. Baseball games and Outdoor track meets
4. Little cousins (females) talking about prom

9dstpm 03-20-2003 02:30 PM

For me, since I've been in Michigan, I know that it's spring when I can drive my car with the windows rolled down and laugh at the children who are wearing short skirts and belly shirts and then when it's cold and snowing the next day, I can laugh at the same children who are absent from school because they have a cold. They must have forgotten that the weather in Michigan changes every 5 minutes or so.

When I was growing up in Mississippi, it was spring when you had to turn on your air conditioner because it was just that hot. Also, it was spring when you saw men walking down the street with no shirt on and plus sized women wearing junior sized sundresses.

In either place, it's spring for me when Payless has the buy one, get one 1/2 off summer sale!!! More sandals!!!! :D

Sistermadly 03-20-2003 02:54 PM

Robins!

It takes a long time for spring to...spring :D in this part of the world, so the first thing I look for are robins.

I Know it's Spring at FAMU

--when The Set is THICK on a Friday afternoon
--when girls start coming outside half naked
--when everybody has a week of events, even groups that don't do anything else for the rest of the year and people you've never even heard of "March 31 - April 5 is Black Sleepwalker Guild Week"

I know it's Spring in Philly when people actually wash the salt from the past winter off of their cars.

QueenGreen 03-29-2003 04:50 AM

Spring is the thing

I know that it is spring in Oberlin when:

- The Student Union brings TGIF back outside on Wilder Bowl
(the campus "grassy knoll" which turns into a meat market of scantly clad/slightly drunk crazy people on Fridays 4pm-6pm)

- The hippies wear their birkenstocks without socks (or they stop wearing shoes at all)

- The monsoons come (we get A LOT OF RAIN in Oberlin)

- I start thinking (insert random guy) in my (insert random subject) class is cute.

*spring fever is contagious*

. . .it's Dolphy Day @ school!

. . .it gets cold and rains instead of snows!

. . .girls come out of the woodwork with hoochgear

. . .guys start blasting their beat

. . . the car wash has a line down the street

Dedicated1 03-29-2003 12:20 PM

I know it's spring when............

I'm concerned about losing weight so I can look good in my summer clothes

You start to see everyone with convertible's with their top down

Everyone starts wearing shades

Membership at the gym increases

Women start to cut their hair

I start leaving my door open so I can smell the fresh air

I drive with my windows down and the sunroof open/music bumping

Motorcycle and Car clubs start meeting in the parking lots

Guys start wearing wife beaters

Everyone starts getting pedicures again

People outside with buckets and a hose washing their cars with armorall on the side for their tires

Okay, why did I just now see this, and find it hilarious?
TOO FUNNY!

You know it's spring when you can rinse off your car, and by the time you get to your destination it's yellow-tinted again...this time in water-beaded patterns.

The nicest winter boots you were wanting all winter long are now on sale, and you can get them for next year!;)

It starts to get dark later, or so it seems.

The mailman starts to rock shorts, (with his old arse, with like 4 gold chains...button up your shirt man) :o

(HC somebody needs to make a remix to "The Freaks come out at night", how about "The Freaks like Summertime, the freaks like summertime!")
