With whom do you bank?

Me and a soror were talking last night and began to wonder what banks were on the west coast. We realize that banking is (for the most part) regional, so I figured I'd ask my GCers. So who do you bank with?

I bank with Bank of America, and I think that if you're going to call it Bank of AMERICA, it needs to be all over America. I hate every time I go to Ohio I have pay fees to withdraw money.

ADPiAkron 12-14-2003 11:54 AM

I bank with US Bank...I have to agree with Ideal08 on the Bank of America thing....US Bank is not all over the US either!!

CrimsonTide4 12-14-2003 11:56 AM

Work for Bank of America . . .headquarters in Charlotte. . . I have a feeling that it really will become BOA in the next 10 years.

I bank with First Charter. It is only found in the immediate Charlotte area, but it really is FREEEEEEE BANKING!!!

Steeltrap 12-14-2003 12:14 PM

Bank of America

Been with BofA since 1995, when I was in Nevada. Back when I lived in Charlotte 10 years ago, I was with NationsBank. My cousin in Charlotte is a BofA VP or such. Also, I was with First Tennessee when I was in K-town (Knoxville) and Home Federal/Washington Mutual.

NationsBank merged or whatnot with Bank of America. (oh how my brain is filled with 1000s of BOA facts, statistics, and other HR related tidbits for BOA employees.)

tnxbutterfly 12-14-2003 01:20 PM

I bank with Community Credit Union here in Dallas. I think it is only here in Texas.

I'm trying to switch to Washington Mutual, but they refuse to take my money. If you have ever read the Broke Diaries, I'm kind of going thur the same ChexSystem deal like Angela. :o

Sahara 12-14-2003 02:29 PM

They have Bank of America on the East coast. It must only be the midwest that gets neglected.

I bank at Fleet and the Rutgers Credit Union (great CD rates). Most people I know bank at two places.

AKAngel904 12-14-2003 02:29 PM

I bank with Bank of America and Suntrust.

I banked with them before I moved to DC.

Jill1228 12-14-2003 02:45 PM

I bank with Bank of America. DH banks with the Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank). It is cool because BOA and Scotiabank have an agreement. I can withdraw money at his atm and vice versa without fees! I thought it was cool to see a BOA in downtown Toronto when I was there. Since we live so close to the US border, it is about a 15 minute drive for me to cross into the US to get to the nearest BOA (Blaine, WA)

If and when we move back to the US (man I hope so), he will most likely bank at BOA or Washington Mutual

Questions404 12-14-2003 02:48 PM

My primary accounts are with Wachovia. There are several regional banks and credit unions across the country that have some of my money. Diversity is key.

CrimsonAngel2001 12-14-2003 03:13 PM

I bank with a credit union thats for CIA employees/contractors and their families... I haven't found a bank that can give me all the perks that I get there... also doesnt hurt that my mom works there either

Diva_01 12-14-2003 03:56 PM

Right...

None of the banks mentioned are around here, if they are, didn't notice them.

I Bank at Key and Charter one...
Banked at Huntington, Fifth Third, and US Bank...

Wonderful1908 12-14-2003 04:33 PM

I bank with my teachers credit union, however I still have my accounts with Wells Fargo who is located on the west coast. Hwever I live in Texas and they are here. When I was in college in Lousiana there were no Wells Fargos.

Questions404 12-14-2003 05:33 PM

The Wells Fargo locations in Texas used to be Kelly Field Banks. This was a bank that was affiliated with Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio. When the base closed, Wells Fargo came in.

Gina1201 12-14-2003 06:29 PM

I bank at HSBC Bank and with the Syracuse Federal Employees CU. Both are been fine for me with minimal fees.

Freakin' a, does this mean there is no USBank in DC? That means I need ANOTHER bank account for next summer. :(

Prissfit1908 12-14-2003 11:27 PM

I have accounts with National City and I cannot STAND them! The only reason I bank with them is because they have an ATM on every corner and I prefer to bank that way. I only go inside the bank if I absotively-posilutely :) have to!

I had a problem about a month ago when I was going to purchase something via the Internet. I decided NOT to purchase it. Well, I was charged any dayum way! But my checking was not hit for $39.95 just once It wasn't hit twice. Why was I charged $39.95 fifteen times! Needless to say, I lost my mind and acted a natural born fool! The bank told me that since the charges had not actually cleared yet, I couldn't contest them nor could they do anything about it. My issue was if they hadn't cleared, why the F*** is that money missing from my account? They said the charges had not officially posted yet and there was nothing I could do until they did  Talk about an angry black woman! AND it was over Thanksgiving weekend. Guess who didn't get to do crap but look sad on the biggest shopping day of the year? No Wal-Mart for me!

nikki1920 12-15-2003 12:06 AM

I'd be a mad sista too!! LOL

Whist in college, I banked with FirstUnion & NationsBank. At home I banked with Chevy Chase. I am now banking with USAA Bank (for military families and their dependents). The only drawback with them is that there is no where I can go to make a physical deposit. I need to mail in my deposits, which sucks. :( I am looking at going back to Bank of America. I'd like to learn more about CDs and savings accounts and such..

Honeykiss1974 12-15-2003 01:54 AM

Bank of America since they are EVERYWHERE and both my checking and savings accounts are free with direct deposit.

jharb 12-15-2003 02:02 AM

I bank with Fifth Third and if you're in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana it's wonderful!

I have the totally free checking and haven't had any problems with them. I used to be with a local bank in Cincinnati and they drove me batty with little fees and such.

Professor 12-15-2003 09:40 AM

Bank of America

kiml122 12-15-2003 10:33 AM

I use to bank with IGA Federal Credit Union. I started with them while I was in high school. I now bank with Commerce Bank since 2002 because the credit union because a savings and loan, and all the perks that came with being with a credit union were gone.

Exquisite5 12-15-2003 05:22 PM

I bank at BOA.
#1 The ATMs are EVERYWHERE and
#2 My mom in Texas can deposit money in to my account that I can get while at school in D.C.

Intense1920 12-15-2003 05:26 PM

I used to bank with Bank of America. Now I'm with Heritage Trust FCU, a credit union from back home.

tnxbutterfly 12-15-2003 06:36 PM

I have a question for anybody that has a Visa Check Card.

Does your financial institution charge you a fee everytime you use your check card as a debit card? It seems that my credit Union charges me .10 everytime I use my debit card as a debit card. Their reasoning is that since Visa is charging them more to process the transactions, they have to offset the fee by charging us:mad:

So I'm wondering if your bank has a similar policy/practice?

treblk 12-15-2003 06:52 PM

I too bank with BOF and I love em!! But when I was in CA, BOF was the bank-of-hold-yo'-money-till-yo'-check's-bounce-America.
I swear, everymonth, BOF was messin' up a sista's account.
When I moved to DC was all happy to be away from BOF and went to Nations Bank..but load and behold, they merge with BOF and I have not had one problem with them.
I have everything with them, checking, saving(s), IRA, Mortgage

do i need to do an ad:roll

smiley21 12-15-2003 07:21 PM

We have Compass Bank here to. I wonder if they are apart of Chexsystems? I need to get a new bank ASAP.

1browngirl 12-15-2003 10:21 PM

I currently bank with Wachovia. I have an express checking acct with them that charges no fees if I don't have a minimun bal, i can write all the checks I want, and there's no monthly fee. The only thing is that I have to do everything electronically I have to either use direct deposit or use the ATM to make payroll deposits and if I go inside too many times in a month for teller assistance there's a charge for that too. Needless to say, I use the ATM and direct deposit for everything.

I also bank w/ Greater Piedmont Credit Union in Durham. They don't have any offices except in Durham, I don't have an ATM card and that's good because if I did my savings account would never have any money in it.

That seems really unusual, it definitely doesn't happen to me and they encourage me to use my check card as a debit card.
