Speed Dating??

Has anyone else tried this? What did u think of it??

I tried it when the USC Hillel sponsored speed dating my freshman year. It was kinda fun but I didn't make any matches or anything...oh wait maybe one....but nothing ever came of it

Peaches-n-Cream 12-07-2003 11:20 PM

I have never tried it, but it seems to be growing in popularity.

SmartBlondeGPhB 12-07-2003 11:22 PM

It was fun, the women were more fun than the men I met. I went out with two but nothing past a first date.

MeLikey 12-08-2003 12:47 AM

I think Oprah had a segment about it on her show last year... I could be wrong about it being on Oprah though, but I saw it somewhere on TV. I have never tried it, I think it would be fun just to experience it though.

CatStarESP4 01-12-2004 02:06 AM

I have never tried it, but I am not sure if I want to.

honeychile 01-12-2004 02:07 AM

Everyone I know who's tried it thought it was a positive experience, whether or not any dates came out of it.

James 01-12-2004 12:25 PM

What is it exactly?

You take a lot of speed then go on a date. ;)

No actually, it's kind of like a structured mixer - there are equal amounts of girls and guys and you talk to each one for 5-15 minutes. If you want to see any of them again you notify the coordinator. Then you find out who wants to see you again.

James 01-12-2004 12:54 PM

Had to be a sorority girl that thought that up . . thats like bid matching from formal rush :p

This is an irreverant thought but I can just imagine them playing the "speed racer" remix at the mixer . . .

Rudey 01-12-2004 11:23 PM

This must be awesome if the guy gets speed sex and finished in 37 seconds.

--AWESOME!

James 01-12-2004 11:44 PM

Oh is that considered fast lol ;)

I'd do it as long as I didn't get any stupid stalkerish types that thought you were in love with them because they had your phone number!

PM_Mama00 01-13-2004 03:56 AM

I have a few alumni sisters who've done it and had a lot of fun. One of them actually met a really great guy. They met last March, started talking and started dating in August.

DeltaBetaBaby 02-27-2005 07:11 PM

Ressurecting an ancient thread because I did it two weeks ago...

ETA: If it is good enough for Miranda, it is good enough for me!

Of 23 guys, I think I said I was interested in 9 of them, and I matched with 6 of them.

Had a terrible date yesterday, a good one for lunch today, and three more to come (the 6th one never called).

It was a Jewish singles event, and I think that is a key part of why it works. You have Jews looking for other Jews, as opposed to just a random room full of people. For the most part, though, there were quite a few unattractives.

My favorite was the guy who bitched about the $5 he had to pay for parking.

And yes, James, all I could think about was sorority rush...even down to the little notebooks where we were all writing about each other.

Speed dating = Good idea.
Speed sex = Bad idea.
Speed sex with all the women from Speed dating at the same time = A bad idea made good.

Can you beat a girl with electrical cords if she was a bad speed date?

Yes, this sums up the essence of Speed Dating.

I didn't know you could sum up the essence of something.

Some people might just say "This is the essence" or "This sums up". Most people wouldn't combine the two.

--I hope you enjoyed your English lesson for this morning.

33girl 10-22-2005 12:15 PM

Bumping because my little and I are thinking about doing this.

It's part of a big old singles fest and one of the sponsors is Captain Morgan, so it can't be that hideous.

James 10-23-2005 03:52 AM

I think it would be great practice for guys . . .

The trick would be to as charming as possible but not to actually ask for anyone's number or anything . . that would remove any pressure.

Do a couple speed dating events and you would be a pro.

Hurry Up and Date
How I Scored with 11 Men in Under an Hour

BY CIENNA MADRID

It was seven o'clock on a Wednesday night, and I was crouching alone in the corner of an unknown bar with a glass of vodka. The scene would have been familiar if not for the 11 middle-aged men patiently waiting for their chance to date me.

Tom Earp 12-26-2005 04:50 PM

Wow hoosier, How to Screw up a "Realy Neto Thread!"

God this sounds like so much fun I want to Puke!

Have Your Sex Life Structured. You can gpo to Church Single Socials and get the same thing or troll the streets!

You went out with two of the women? :D

And I'd like to try speed dating once for the hell of it.

Okay this'll be my last necromantic act of the day. :D

JonInKC 05-12-2006 04:43 AM

This thread made me think of the Simpsons. As they were about to begin one woman asked the coordinator "Is this how you met your husband" to which the woman replied "No, we met each other through friends like normal people"... I guess you had to see it, but it was great.

BobbyTheDon 05-15-2006 01:16 AM

I'll try it one day. I plan on lying my ass off. I want to play the role of a murderer, attorny, banker, shy lonely boy, and a convicted puppy killer.

Chicks dig the long ball...

bestrong 09-13-2006 12:52 AM

(Since this thread was resurrected...)

I saw this episode the other day. Hilarious.

Although I dont know if this speed dating is referred to any new form of dating, but if you people mean to say that all the things here are done at a rapid pace then I would say that this is perhaps not the right kind of thing. As dating after all is all about making new relationships and making things hasty there cannot let you find the most ideal partner for you. It requires a lot of patience and companionship before one can firmly establish a relationship. So if I am wrong in my opinions then I would gladly like to ask any one of you to negate me with valid points.

Did you eat lead paint as a kid, and I don't mean chips either?
