What do you guys think of the latest dances?
My mom had me ROFLMBO about all these new dances.....She says if they aren't trying to shake their butts off thier bodies , they're shaking and convulsing(sp)! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
Around here there's the "Jospehine Johnny" people are around here grabing walls and tossing their butts in the air! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif One thing I'll admit to is The Cha Cha slide! I love that dance..(The electric slide with a twist) http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |

Sounds interesting. Is this a southern thing?? LEt me tell y'all about that dang on CHA CHA SLIDE. Picture it, Christmas EVE 2000, Cleveland, Ohio, my granny's house (I LOVE the GOLDEN GIRLS): http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif My family is sitting around playing BID WHIST and the CHA CHA SLIDE comes on the radio, my 40+ aunt and 21 year old cousin get up from the table and proceed to do the CHA CHA SLIDE!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif I was not amused. Has anyone else seen this "BOOTY BOUNCE". http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif I was introduced to it 2 Thanksgivings ago while home in Cleveland. It is one of the other 100 line dances out now. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif Ideal08 told me Friday while we were CLOWNING on people at First Friday's that there is a VIDEO for CHA CHA SLIDE http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif |

BEFORE THE BOX WENT OUT OF BUSINESS, THAT VIDEO GOT MAJJJJJJOOOOORRRRR PLAY! |
I am sorry, yall, but I can't get with that cha-cha slide. It looks and sounds too much like "urban square dancing". I dance to express myself. Folx who do the cha-cha slide are into being ordered around the floor by some neo-fascist Sam Drucker wannabe. Sort of like this bizarre new millennium techno B.F. Skinner hoedown or somethin'. What is this, Hee Haw Hooray?
*ROTFL* http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif O Well, to each his/her own. RM |
Either I'm old or it's not up here in NJ and NYC. What the heck is a CHA CHA Slide and a Josephine Johnny? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
|
Toocute,
I have heard the CHA CHA Slide at a couple of college parties up here, NJ, but I'm not a fan. They usually play it during the club music set. I have never heard of the Josephine Johnny http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif What is it? |
I like the Cha Cha slide, even my grandmother can do it. It was the only dance everybody in my family, (from my three year old cousin to my grandmother) did during Christmas. Now the Josephine Johnny is a dance that I'm tired of. I have seen guys do it and they look alright, but some girls...whew! People here have started doing the Josephine Johnny to almost any song. They even do it unconsciously (some one did it during service at my roommate's church and didn't realize it for a minute, then stopped).
|
http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif ok, either the Josephine Johnny is not a southern thing, or I've been in the house too long (which is not all that far fetched)...I ain't heard of it
now the cha-cha slide is the bomb....i have all 3 parts & I do it when I can't/don't go to aerobics http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif |
The Josephine Johnny is a dance that originated in New Orleans. It's a local thing. It will make its way up North sooner or later.

And as far as the one's doing the "Johnny Josephine", "Josephine Johnny" (whatever the booty-dance is called), in a sactuary during service...I don't know what it is or what it looks like (probably something "Miss" Trina would be doing with Lil Kim rallying behind her with props), oohhhhh they'd better be glad Sista/Elder-Pastor Jenkins from the old-school church wasn't there..."I don said it once...I don said it twice, there'll be no dancing in the flush (yep, flush) up in here--Devil, loose them now", she'd say as she grabbed her bottle of olive oil! LOL! Shalom~ |
Dang I am old, but you know what? I don't even care.
Cause I am going to start of by doing the prep with exquizit. "Set if off on the right yawl" Then I am going to break into the snake with AKA2D '91. And when I get to Cleveland for the Klave this summer, me and CrimsonTide4 gonna do the tootsy role. So that's what I think about these new dances. Say it loud, "I'm 30 and I'm proud!" Ok, I am LMAKAAO @ RM talkin' 'bout some "urban square dancing!" LOL! I HATE that Cha Cha Slide song. It takes no skill. HE TELLS YOU WHAT TO DO!! And the fact that it has a video is just beyond me. Kelli, there are 3 versions??? Hey, I can't even hate, he is gettin' PIZZAID!
Now being from Cleveland, which I like to call the line dance capital of the world (yall have no idea, it's a little insane, am I right CT4?), I love the line dances as much as the next person. But I'm cool with just the Trans and JB's Monorail. Some of the new ones are cute, but can't NOTHIN' touch the Trans and JB's Monorail. But yall probably don't know nothin' 'bout 'dat! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |

While I was teaching it to her we both started sweating and really getting into it. Next thing I knew we had the CD on repeat and 30 minutes had passed by! For those that think the workout tapes are too much or don't have the extra time to go to the gym, this is EXCELLENT!!!! If you get into it and work them legs, you will feel it and feel great. I plan on doing it at least 3 X's a week for 15 minutes. Don't laugh until you tried it! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |

Okay, Ideal you are killin me! ROTFLMAO I'm from Cleveland myself--gurrlll, I am on the floor! You didn't go there with the MONORAIL!! Lawd havemucy! I ain't heard that in years! I hate that dayum cha-cha song! I keep having visions of leisure suits and old men with short sets on and dress socks! HATE IT!!! |

Girl, I went to a cabaret around Christmas at home, they played the Trans AND the Monorail!! Girl, I was in HEAVEN, you hear me?! Before that, I hadn't heard the Monorail in like 8 years. I hear the Trans here in Columbus, but they don't really know how to do it, you know, putting the dances in it. They be doin' some ol' off the wall type mess. Ain't no place like home! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif I will never forget about the Monorail! I learned how to do that before I learned how to do the Trans! Girl, you know you learned it when you were like 5!! See, those songs have longevity. The Cha Cha slide will go out just like the electric slide did. I been doing the Trans and the Monorail for what, 20 years. And I'm only 26! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif *SIGH* Sweet nostalgia....... |

Yall got to leave the Cha Cha slide alone. Being from Chicago, where it originated, Everybody here loves the Cha Cha. It now has two videos!! But I must say I can't get into the new video from a D.J. here in Chicago trying to compete with the Cha Cha. It has you doing stuff like iron the shirt, and comb the 'do. Real cheesy.

LOL!!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif PIMP DADDY!!
"Well I'm pimp daddy and it's about that time....." I was on the dance floor sweatin' out my perm! LOL! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif I remember when you were still kinda safe in your local hole in the wall club........Oh well The Josephine Johnny is a bit hard to explain...You slightly bend your right knee while tapping your right foot in the rhythm http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif while your hands are balled into fists shaking up and down http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif and your elbows are bent meanwhile you're bouncing your butt. Then mid-way through the song everybody is supposed to catch a wall (hood rats race to the wall)and shake their butt... LOL...Confusing huh? It's a dance never the less...The song has never ending play in the clubs and parties. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif |
Well I don't feel old up in here, now.
Yall are gonna make me tie a piece of cardboard to a string and look for someone to break dance against. I might go buy a boom boom box right now. Um bout to get my centipede on up in this camp. Um with MN, forget the new dances, bring back the OL' school with OZONE and TURBO. |

We used to have break dancing contests in college at the DOG HOUSE, remember that Ideal08???? Maaaan times like these I miss them dear old Wittenberg days. THIS JOSEPHINE JOHNNY sounds like it should be called DO THE HOKEY POKEY with a FREAKY LITTLE SPIN http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Bend my right knee and move my fists?? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif Wouldn't you fall over?? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif When you run to the wall, does a man follow you??? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif or do they just stand there and get excited at all the booties bouncing??? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif [This message has been edited by CrimsonTide4 (edited March 06, 2001).] |

Well.....You don't fall over because you're still balanced while you're shakin' your leg and tappin' your foot! LOL http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif And when they catch the wall it depends on who you are and where you're at if they follow.......( I did say mostly hood rats catch the wall) LOL http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif 90% Of the time they just watch with their tongues hanging out watching the big booties bounce http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif [This message has been edited by exquizit (edited March 06, 2001).] |
Okay, I had to hop in on this one. I couldn't believe the Josephine Johnny myself and I'm from the South. As a matter of fact, the "artist" of this song and this dance goes to school right there at my alma mater, SU! When my sister, who is currently a student, came home and showed me this dance, I was ROTFL with tears in my eyes! And when she popped in the CD he was selling on campus.....OH MY GOODNESS! I couldn't take anymore! But like someone already stated, this song got MAJOR play! The really funny part is seeing a club full of people doing the dance to the song (eg.....catch the wall girl...)! LOL!
|
See Ideal,
That what I'm talkin about. That IS the problem. Dances like the electric slide won't go out of style! People won't let it go! Let it go, man. Just let it go! LOL People probably say the same thing about me when I hit a cabbage patch and snake it out for 'em! Some songs just don't feel right if you don't wop it out! |

Now I have heard of some crazy dances, but I never that one. Oh, and BE, don't make me dig out my phat laces, my Kango, and my Gazelle glasses and start it off. I remember being at dances and challenging everyone to break dance. Those were the days. Yawl bringing back some memories now. MN |
