Aww

Awesome!

It snowed this morning about an inch, but not enough for them to cancel school :(

it's ok though, i've just got half a day today and half a day tomorrow thanks to our basketball tournament.

You guys are so lucky. The only time I get to see snow is when I go snowboarding each year.

Lady Pi Phi 12-04-2003 01:25 PM

They never cancel anything here because of the snow. even when we had to call in the army (yes I am very embarrassed but that was our stupid former mayor...thank god he's gone!), they never cancelled anything!

There's a huge one planned tonight...

There's actually not *that* much snow on the ground--Maybe an inch--but my professor lives in Charlottesville so she didn't want to drive down.

Peaches-n-Cream 12-04-2003 03:39 PM

It will snow 3 to 6 inches in New York City on Friday. Stay safe everyone! :)

ThetaPrincess24 12-04-2003 03:45 PM

I think I posted this somewhere else once......or maybe i jsut talked about it to someone once......at anyrate, every year when we have big snows here, someone/some people in teh condo building next to my townhouse always builds a penis with balls next to the sidewalk next to the road. yes I laugh each and every year.......always two days or so after it has been built for display, someone comes along and knocks off the penis leaving the balls by themselves.

I miss the snow! Just before we moved to AZ, we were given a winter to remember (a brutal one). I now envy the north!!!

Stay warm!

Ah, another person who's actually been to W&L. When did you visit?

January of 1991. I drove my car down to FSU, and stopped to stay overnight at the Phi Psi house.

Coolio. Virginia Beta, right?

My sorority little sister's biological big brother is a Phi Psi here.

Yes. Virginia Beta is Phi Psi's third chapter, and the first fraternity at W&L, having chartered in 1855.

That chapter has produced many prominent alumni such as:

George Chamberlain - former U.S. Senator from Ohio

John W. Davis - former Ambassador to Great Britian, U.S. Representative from West Virginia, U.S. Solicitor General and the 1924 Democratic Nominee for U.S. President (would have been the second Phi Psi U.S. President.)

John Otho Marsh, Jr. - former U.S. Representative from Virginia

Also, Kappa Alpha Order was founded at W&L as Phi Kappa Chi, but changed their name because it was too close to ours.

I miss snow so much. I remember when school used to be cancelled because we had 3 feet of snow on the ground and the wind chill was -70. Now everyone here has there scarves and wool hats on because we are having a cold snap, the low may reach freezing (gotta cover my banana tree!) and highs are only going to be in the low 60's! Talk about cold!

angelic1 12-04-2003 06:06 PM

since i am about an hour or two away from lexington in the hills of VA.. we have quite a bit of snow right now.. i was walking around campus with an umbrella when it was coming down like buckets.. that was the only way i could see.. haha..

though we never cancel classes either.. so dont feel bad.. we did for the first time last year in like forever only bc VDOT ran out of money in their budget..

today a bus even wrecked and the bus i was taking home tonight had to be detoured bc of that road (its just one big hill)....

Yeah, I think I'd heard most of that before. It's kinda funny to me.

It's snowing here to. It's actually very pretty - it's the BIG chucky snow flakes :) I just don't want to drive in it (blah)!

GeekyPenguin 12-04-2003 06:59 PM

I live in WISCONSIN and it's not snowing.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

If I don't get a big snowy winter, I'm seriously going to cry, because it's my second-to-last winter here.

TigerLilly 12-04-2003 07:35 PM

Y'all are so lucky! Appreciate that snow -- go play in it, make a snow sculpture, have a snowball fight, or something! I miss snow!!! (It doesn't snow that much in Germany where I am...ie, it hasn't snowed yet and it probably won't til late January or so.)

ShaedyKD 12-04-2003 08:06 PM

No fair! I've never had a snow day in college. ;) Now hurricane days are another story...

The high for this weekend in Tampa is 60 degrees - and the low is 39  I guess I better get used to the cold weather for when I go to Jersey for Christmas!

Girl, you know that Mayor Mikey won't call a snow day unless we get almost a foot of snow. :( :(

I think some of the schools upstate might have early dismissal.

It's snowing in NYC right now.

*le sigh*
*le dammit*

My daughter's school went on a trip to see "A Christmas Carol". I made sure she was properly dressed for the weather - down jacket, snow pants and snow flurry boots, courtesy of Lands End. :) She'll be the only one in the house happy that it's snowing.

lol! I remember those days. Just make sure you get the stuff ready for her snowman, and you have the camera out to take some adoooorable pics that will embarass the heck outta her someday.

It's snowing out here too, and those flakes are FLYING. It looks terrible out there.

queequek 12-05-2003 01:04 PM

Arrgh
There was 2 inches of snow this morning on top of 10 inches from the night before. And of course, school still goes as scheduled and nothing is cancelled.
Imagine if this happens somewhere in Texas .. for sure the state is cancelled for the whole month!

sigmagrrl 12-05-2003 01:14 PM

It it wasn't me, all alone, having to dig the car out, and having to move this weekend, and having to dig the car out AGAIN tomorrow morning after the snow tonight, I'd be fine. But, I NOW HATE SNOW!! Lordie, I never thought I'd say that, but it's so inconvenient!!!!

i love the warning from the weather.com:

ANY TRAVEL IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED. IF YOU LEAVE THE SAFETY OF BEING INDOORS, YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR LIFE AT RISK.

aephi alum 12-05-2003 05:01 PM

I work in Westchester County... when I left work at around 2pm, there was about an inch of snow on the ground already. I beat the storm home, but it's starting to flurry...

And I have to vent. People around here do not know how to drive in snow. Yes, I am driving slowly and cautiously - unlike you, I relish the idea of arriving at my destination in one piece. Crazy-azz Connecticut drivers...
