LOTR: Return of the King

OK, so I am SOOOO excited about this....14 days until we get to see Legolas again!!!! WOOHOO!

Anyone have a theater near them playing the first two releases followed by a midnight showing of ROTK?? I'm planning on attending one and I'm making sure I am fully awake so I can last!!!

cashmoney 12-03-2003 01:00 PM

Dude, I can't wait till the return of the king comes out. I'm so stoked.:D

Ginger 12-03-2003 01:53 PM

We have our tickets to the midnight showing!

A local theatre here is doing the triple-play. We tried to get tickets, but they sold out within hours, and are being scalped for approx. $400 - $500. Face value was $30. I like Lord of the Rings... but not for $400!!!

ThetaPrincess24 12-03-2003 04:27 PM

They arent doing that here to my knowledge :( I wish they were though. I'll end up seeing the midnight showing by myself too.......cuz no one wants to stay up that late to watch that movie :(

TigerLilly 12-03-2003 06:12 PM

Whooohoo!!! I'm going to see the midnight showing, for sure. I wanted to see the triple feature, but I can't find a theater doing it in English here, and I refuse to watch it in German. Some things just shouldn't be messed with like that, and LOTR is one of them! I did manage to find a theater showing just Return of the King in English at midnight, though, so I'll just see that.
And I'll see it before y'all because it'll be midnight here first! Mwuahahaha!!!

PhiPsiRuss 12-03-2003 06:26 PM

The triple feature in Manhattan sold out in the first hour. :(

I'll see one of the midnight showings, for sure.

ThetaPrincess24 12-03-2003 06:51 PM

I stand corrected. they are doing that in lexington :) i'm so excited too because i just made a date for the whole thing :)

SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!! :) (now if the tickets and show times would jsut go on sale already.....)

Lady Pi Phi 12-04-2003 08:52 AM

Tickets to the Triple featire here in Toronto sold out almost instantly.

I wanted to go, but I don't know if I'd be able to stay awake and I would definitly need to take time off work :)

Is going to the movies by yourself a bad thing? I go quite often bymyself I actually prefer to go to a matinee by myself and not wait until the later showings when the prices go up. As a matter of fact that's the only reason I've seen so many movies recently, it's easier to go right after work and not wait on other individuals. But maybe that's why I'm single :)

yeah but you're a guy though so it looks different.........I dont go out to eat by myself either. If i cant find someone to go with me, i'll order food and go and pick it up, I wont stay there and eat it alone. I dont like being seen alone at the movies or in a restaurant.

kafromTN 12-05-2003 11:30 PM

I don't think it is just b/c I'm a guy. I think it is b/c I'm too old to care anymore what other people think of me. I've since decided as long as I am happy with the choices I make and happy with the way I live my life, then who cares what others think.

Just my $.02

I'm with you, Theta! I've gone to a movie by myself once, and I just felt... wierd. It would definitley be worth it for RotK, though!!

This could be an interesting chit chat topic, if there wasn't already one...

mullet81 12-08-2003 01:20 PM

I agree Ginger - totally interesting topic! I'm starting a thread on it in Dating/Relationships!

mullet81 12-17-2003 02:52 AM

Alright - anyone who went to see this tonight, let us know how it was :-)

ladyj39 12-17-2003 03:36 AM

I got my tickets for tomorrow night and I'm SO excited! :)

PhiPsiRuss 12-17-2003 06:04 AM

WOW!!!

I just came back from the theater. I'll divulge no details until Monday, just to give everyone enough time to see it.

So how was it? I'm still soaking it in, but I think that it just might be the best of the trilogy. It was definitely the best paced, and it did not feel like I was sitting there for 3 1/2 hours. The movie held my attention and delivered the goods.

It gets my vote for an Academy Award in every single category, but then again, I might be just a tad biased.

Intense1920 12-17-2003 01:30 PM

I'm going tonight! I read all of the books and I can't wait to see it on the screen. :D

jharb 12-17-2003 01:46 PM

I'm going this evening with my boyfriend and some guys from his fraternity. I can't wait! :D

I'm glad to know that the three and a half hours won't seem like that though...I'm still sick so I'm afraid I might zonk out!

mullet81 12-17-2003 01:57 PM

i'm going to see it tomorrow with my boy as part of his christmas present (and a study break!) dinner and a movie on me for once :D

Schmeer 12-17-2003 03:42 PM

I have already seen it and cannot wait to go again it was that good..but like others I will give no spoilers..thats how I went and I think it makes it that much more amazing!!

butterfly2001nc 12-17-2003 04:05 PM

i can't wait to see this! i have the first 2 and i LOVE it! One of my sorority sisters saw a midnite screening of it and thought it was amazing!!! gotta wait til christmas though!!!

also, i don't mind going to the movies by myself at all! sometimes it better that. it has nothing to do with whether or not you are male or female, but the type of person you are...

just my 2 cents!

Hugs! :)

ThetaPrincess24 12-17-2003 05:38 PM

I have just returned from seeing it :) Loved this movie.........a few parts made me a bit nervous.......but I loved it none the less. Now I cant wait till the extended Return of the King comes out on DVD heh :)

ThetaPrincess24 12-17-2003 05:44 PM

something else i'd like to add.......

How many of you expected the first scenes? hahah it was a shocker to me but I liked it. Thought it was kinda interesting.

I had a feeling it would open something like that just because of the way it ended in TTT.

Anyway, I loved it. I was on the edge of my seat most of the time and I swear I wasn't in there for 3 1/2 hours. I didn't want it to end. That's what sucks about watching these types of movies - it has to end, blah.

James 12-17-2003 11:39 PM

The first scene was actually something revealed in the first book I believe . . .

I saw it last night/morning at 1201 AM . . . it was 3:30 when we got out sigh .. .

Good flick. . . interesting changes in the story.

SparkliiQTMTSU 12-17-2003 11:48 PM

I loved this movie!! we have 2 theatres here in Murfreesboro and both had 3 theatres showing it at midnight last night and they were all sold out! thank goodness I got my tickets!! :) It was really good I was surprised it didnt even feel like 3.5 hrs long. Of course when everyone in town was out at 3:30 driving home lol I felt tired :) but this movie is amazing!! everyone should definitly go see it!!! theyre talking about making The Hobbit now so I cant wait to see how that one comes out!

kafromTN 12-18-2003 01:32 AM

I loved this movie, by far best movie I have seen all year, I might go see it a few more times in the theaters and buy a box set of the extended versions when it comes out. The battle scenes were incredible. The movie was very emotionally moving as well....I think my eyes even started to tear up, but don't tell anyone.

I heard that about the book but I never read them so I didn't know for sure. I was just anticipating it because the subject was touched upon a few times in TTT.

It was crazy to actually see it happen as it did though, I was like dayum!

Intense1920 12-18-2003 12:06 PM

I read the books and I thought that they just weren't going to discuss it. I went to see ROTK last night. WOO HOO we went to the 9:50 showing and didn't get out until after 1. We had horrible seats  but I dealt with it since the movie was blowng my mind. I can't wait to see it again. :D

rainbowbrightCS 12-18-2003 01:00 PM

I can't see it till next week becuase of my work schedule!!! :(

moe.ron 12-19-2003 11:56 AM

For some odd reason, I feel empty now. I dunno, ROTK rocked my world. But after the movie ended, it's like there is nothing else that is good to see. Maybe it was too good. I'm definately going to buy the box set when it comes out. ROTK is supposed to be 4.5 hours long.

kafromTN 12-19-2003 05:15 PM

I have hope that a Hobbit's tale will be made into a movie by Peter Jackson......That hope gets me through each day.
:)

I will go see that opening day if they make it.

OMG you have got too be kidding, that damn shit dragged on and on...that's where the academy awards will be lost...and another thing, what the hell happened to the talking dog? It's been 12 years since i read the books but i'm pretty sure there was a talking dog...3.5 hours and they couldn't fit that damn dog in there, christ that all i wanted too see.

James 12-20-2003 12:08 AM

Re: Re: WOW!!!

There is a talking Dog in the Silmarillion . . but not in the LOTR series.

The talking dog (Cuan?) was the hound of one of the sons of Feanor that betrayed his master to help Beren and Luthien retrieve the jewel from the crown of Morgroth. Both Aragorn and Arwen are descendants of Luthien.

OMG - We just got back from seeing it and it was AWESOME! Loved every minute - it does not feel like 3.5 hours! I'm ready to go see it again, and again, and again!

Sounds like someone forgot his ritalin.
Every other person agreed that the movie is well done that it does not feel like 3 1/2 hours. I guess that we are all wrong.;)
And what was Peter Jackson thinking when he left out talking dogs that never even appeared in the Lord of the Rings books?
