wanna be serority girl

HI! I am only in high school but i really want to be in a serority for collage. What schould i do now to prepare? Is it really hard to get in? Do I have to look like a supermodel and have 4 point grades? Please help me so I can start planning my future.:)

breathesgelatin 12-02-2003 10:13 PM

The first step towards being a sorority girl is learning how to spell "serority".

kddani 12-02-2003 10:30 PM

no, the first step is getting admitted into a "collage"... how does one get admitted into a piece of art? ;)

kddani 12-02-2003 10:41 PM

It was real hard when I had to transfer and cut myself out of one collage and into a new one.

I'm kind of scared for what I'll have to do for law school! :p

What is higher education if not a collage?
A collage of people
A collage of ideas
A collage of thoughts
A collage of activity
A collage of ambitions

Anyone ready to smack me yet?? ;)

Never eat paste. Sniffing glue is so much better. ;)

How old are you?

I think that having a decent GPA, and being involved with a lot of activities will help. Though the ladies here can guide you better than I.

Lzzzy 12-02-2003 11:29 PM

Thank you

Thank you all for your positive help! Is this how mean all greeks are? Love ya all!

33girl 12-02-2003 11:47 PM

Lzzzy,

Your inadequacies in the arenas of spelling and grammar are cause for concern. When registering for sorority rush, you will be required to fill out a basic information form. These will be checked by the sororities and screened. If you do not present yourself well in your written speech, the consequences can prove disastrous.

Is English your second or third language? If so, perhaps there are tutoring courses available at your high school or local library.

JLyons 12-02-2003 11:56 PM

Lzzzy, I just sent you a private message.

ASUADPi 12-02-2003 11:57 PM

I'm curious to how someone, who still claims they are in high school, could start another thread and not only ask, but list their top three things of being Greek.

<eyebrows raised while I ponder this>

Not possible.

Unless your Greek, your not gonna know the top three things about being Greek unless you made it up.

Are you suggesting that she is not in high school, in college, and maybe, just maybe, she's a gdigirlfriend?

ASUADPi 12-03-2003 12:17 AM

I'm suggesting that she is either

A) someone in high school who is trying to pose as a sorority girl

or

B) someone in college who for some reason decided to pose as a high schooler.

Or maybe she is gdigirlfriend?

Hey it could be a complete misunderstanding on my part, but again I have to wonder.

Brianna

You should know shouldn't you? I mean you did post some favorite things you liked about being greek.

Yet, I also noticed you posted about still being in HS, so which one is it?

A collage of religions

Here's a better question for this thread:

Why does one loser dedicate so much time to attempting to antagonize GLO members on an internet message board?

carnation 12-03-2003 12:28 AM

Would it be appropriate to reprise my rhyme about trolls here?

I think so, just put it into the Shizzolator first.

PhiPsiRuss 12-03-2003 12:40 AM

This could get ugly. Very, very ugly.

With a tip of the hat to Dr. Seuss:

I do not care for GC trolls!
I say let's chase them to their holes!
Would you, could you ban them please?
Let's kick the butts of all RPs!

Moxie 12-03-2003 12:42 AM

haha - you are a TRUE poet!

JLyons 12-03-2003 12:43 AM

I believe it has already gotten ugly. I see a YOUNG girl who wants to be in a sorority and is asking questions. Shouldn't we give her a break and show her that we are not a bunch of mean witches!

Yeah, I have to agree. Don't get me wrong, I'll be the first one to call any one out and give them the hell that they deserve, but I really think that this is just a girl.

If the gdigirlfriend wasn't deleted, we could still have fun with that. I miss that thread. I really miss it. http://flamevault.com/forums/images/smilies/crying.gif

I understand your point but notice a few things first.

1. She came on here stating that she was still in HS and wanted to be in a sorority.

2. Yet, she posted another thread stating what her three favorite things about being greek were and of course two of them were for boys and parties.

So is she in HS or is she greek?

PM_Mama00 12-03-2003 12:53 AM

Maybe she's still in high school and she thinks those are the things that would be best in greek life?

If so, I will pray for her because if she goes into rush thinking that, good luck with getting a bid.

no woo woo.

I think she is in HS & her 3 favorite things about being greek that she listed are the ideas that she has of sororities from movies, television (especially sorority life), friends, GC., etc.

Dionysus 12-03-2003 01:13 AM

Leave the girl alone, she's just a teenybopper.

I think those three things she listed was hypothetical...and not far from the truth. Typical sorority life IS a lot about boys and parties.

Ditto here....if I look back as to why I originally rushed, it was because:
1. I knew no one at my school and wanted a quick way to make friends.

2. I wanted to meet guys.

3. I wanted to have a social life and not just drive back and forth to school since I was at a commuter school.

Somehow I doubt that we all joined originally because of the fabulous networking possibilities or the leadership positions or the alum groups.

Give the girl a break, if she's a troll, IGNORE it.

I'm very flattered. (blushes)

My favorite thing about being in a sorority is the support I have from my sisters, which has been amazing and awesome for me! And trust me, I definitely didn't rush for the boys. :p

I think your caps lock might be broken, you should check that out.

If she is indeed a troll (I don't know but I think an IP check is being call for) she should be taken care of and not "ignored."

Of course a lof of us joined for the booze and to meet people but that doesn't mean that those things continued to be our favorite things. In fact I think a lot of us realized the other advantages of being greek when we got a little older.

I did join for the parties and the girls but those aren't my favorite things now. I hate going to the parties because they get too crowded now and the grils are all youngin, immature fake drunks ;)

MTSUGURL 12-03-2003 01:46 AM

Sweetie, I'm going to assume you're really in high school and that the other post is hypethetical. (sp? If it's wrong, will my authenticity be called into question?)

1. Try and obtain recommendations for the sororities on the campus you choose. There are a bunch of threads on GC about this, just do a quick search.

2. Keep your GPA up! Whether or not you go Greek, your GPA is very important. You go to college for an education, not just to be Greek.

3. Be involved in activities. Find things you enjoy and take part. Stay busy now - experience high school, don't just use it as a stepping stone to join a sorority.

4. Be classy. Respect yourself, be confident, take care of yourself, be well groomed, and all that.

There's a bunch of advice threads in the rush forum. Look those up and I guarantee they'll be a big help. Did I miss anything?

cashmoney 12-03-2003 01:57 AM

Different people join for different reasons, what may seem right for one person may seem wrong for another. Matthew Mc. said being greek was all about who throws the best parties and has the hottest people in their GLO. Some people agree with him and some don't. Kevin Costner (sp?) felt the same as Matthew, as did Garth Brooks ( who was a pike). Are all of them in the wrong? It depends on your beliefs, some of think so and some of us don't. Why bash someone for their reasons? If everyone believed being greek was not about the parties and hot chicks/boys and joined solely for the "good" reasons....being greek would be very boring and there wouldn't be very many greeks on college campuses.
