Favorite Christmas Songs??

My ALL TIME favorite Christmas song is "This Christmas" by Donnie Hathaway, but the Temptations' "Silent Night" runs a close second. :)

In the newer than dirt category, I like Boyz II Men's "Let it Snow"

:)

All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey

and

O Holy Night

BirthaBlue4 12-02-2003 06:20 PM

My favorite ones

Let It Snow

the song, I don't know the name of it, but its sung with many different parts, and it was on Home Alone, and its say merry merry merry merry christmas in the chorus part.

Silent Night (the regular version, the Temptation one gets on my nerves)

Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas Song

Angels We Have Heard on High (I don't think that's the official name though lol)

Joy to the World (Mariah Carey's version)

This Christmas...(Donnie Hathaway)

The Salsoul Orchestra Christmas Album......(My Dad used to place that to death along with The little drummer boy..anybody's version)

Hark the Herald Angels Sing

and a song that goes:

Ding Dong Ding Dong ...... La La La La La La La La La La Christmas is Here! (It's classical sounding and it's usually sung really fast)

That's the Carol of the Bells. That is a really beautiful song, too.

The Kirk Franklin & The Family Christmas CD gets played year-round by me! "This Christmas", "Silent Night", "Let It Snow" and "Carol of the Bells" are all favorites of mine also.

I also love "The Hallelujah Chorus" on Quincy Jones' Handel's Messiah project, "Joy To The World" from The Preacher's Wife Soundtrack, "There Would Be No Christmas Without You" by John P. Kee and New Life, and "Christmas In Hollis" by Run DMC (remember that one???)

Jill1228 12-06-2003 09:41 PM

My all time favorite is "This Christmas" by Donny Hathaway!
I also love Luther's "This is Christmas" CD

I was digging up my John P. Kee this afternoon!! That's my jam. I also like "Soul Holidays" by Sounds of Blackness.

All I got to say about Christmas in Hollis is... You gotta love lyrics like this

It's Christmas time in Hollis Queens,
Mama's cookin' chicken and collard greens...

:)

Ditto on This Christmas. I really like Alexander O'Neal's rendition.

I like the classic songs like "Do you hear what I hear" and "Little Drummer Boy" no matter who is singing it.

bluethunder 12-19-2003 04:32 PM

"this Christmas" by donnie hathaway is tight work forever, BUT...
luther vandross' "every year, every christmas" is something that i look forward to hearing every year around this time... also, i love carla thomas' "gee whiz, it's christmas"...

jojapeach 12-22-2003 10:44 AM

Donnie Hathaway's "This Christmas" is a given. It's absolutely lovely even after Christmas.

There's just something about Carla Thomas' "Gee Whiz, It's Christmas".

Call me a nerd, but I've always liked "Jingle Bell Rock".

I've always liked the music behind Kurtis Blow's "Christmas Rappin'". It's funny hearing him as for a stere-u, but he got away with it.

Y'all might have to be mad at me for these last two: James Brown's "Santa Claus Go Straight to the Ghetto" and that Quad City DJs' Christmas song. (No one knows the actual title.) I'm a hip hop lover from the South, and Christmas just doesn't jump off for me until I hear that song. And what girl doesn't want "$1200 and 5 months free rent"? LOL
