The "new" GC

Apparently is a place where people who have no validation for their outside lives can come and act like their mental growth was stunted at age 9. Folks, I am very weary now of how seriously people take this site and how far they are willing to go in order to feel better about themselves. Also, I would like to apologize to anyone who has taken such offense to things I have posted and have such a deep investment in my opinion of them. For my part, I admit I have made childish remarks and unnecessary personal jabs. In the future, I will no longer make personal remarks about people, and really I doubt I will visit chit chat often at all, as lately it seems to be a breeding fround for some people who have a frightening vendetta against others. No, this is not one of those threads where I say "Hey! Look at me!! I am never coming back!!" It is just something for y'all to read and hopefully contemplate just how seriously you take GC and the people on it.

Ohhh . . . :(

You can still make personal jabs at me if you want. I don't mind.

librasoul22 12-02-2003 04:28 PM

Hey! Do not give me attention! This was not meant to be an attention whoring thread!

I think the last line was the most important thing of all. Some things that have occured on GC in the past few months have REALLLLLLLLY concerned me...such as how people use this site as a means of generating self esteem or some sort of validation, and what lengths they will go to to acheive that.

But just for the record, I am now going to march over to the intersection of AKA and DST and take many personal jabs at sugar and spice, lol.

P.S. I am still gonna be posting over here occasionally, but I don't want to fuel the environment by adding my own personal barbs at someone else's expense.

librasoul.....

i am pretty much in agreement with your post, although there's no way for me to tell if we are speaking of the same things or not. i've just seen people come out of nowhere with nasty messages to people....luckily it's never been directed toward me.

it definitely seems to be a self-esteem, self-importance complex or SOMETHING.

i don't like the new GC...or maybe i mean the attitudes that have been ushered in, but i am glad that the majority of the posts i am concerned with don't generally occur in the forums i frequent the most.

it's just sad how many people i've had to block so i can continue to enjoy my experience.

You've just summed up why I stopped going to Chit Chat (except for the occasional "It's shopping time" thread. :)

I don’t post much but the atmosphere of GreekChat has really made my posting drop off this semester…

I've had to block a bunch, too...but even those people seem to have gotten better as far as deliberately offensive posts go. Maybe I missed a lot of the really terrible things that seemed to happen over Thanksgiving, but maybe since I only look at a handful of forums and post on even fewer, I've missed out on the more insidious stuff.

I find the overt troublemakers refreshing. At least they are generically annoying and entertaining at times.

Its the people that practice sly malicious gossip, social shit talking and basically act like high school that are truly a plague on the site.

In chapter we used to call them "nasty little faggots" whether they were male or female to captialize on the malicious gossippy person stereotype that has been popularized in films.

Sorry to add to your thread Librasoul I know you weren't trying o make a production here.

Libra I know you don't want attention, but I do have to say this.

While everyone was calling me a racist bitch and blah blah, YOU were the one who was mature about it and actually taught me stuff. At times u were a lil bitchy, but u didn't go around to name calling. I think you're awesome!

Well I don't want to be mean OR start a fight, it's just that nowadays no one knows who any new person is, and because of the repeating trolls, it's guilty til proven innocent.

THe unprovoked snark was a bad sign. *sigh*

Best place to post this....a plea.

When I saw the Raccoon thread in Risk Man. It reminded me of Lil_G KABillymac-KSigkid-rc SigmaChiCard...
(Thank goodness lifesaver remains)

I spent some time running through those old threads and thought about Tom's post "Holy Shazbutt" Or however he spelled it.

Things have changed...a LOT. These days, squabbles get rather nasty. Sure, some got heated in the past, but there was wit in the retorts. Humor was highly valued and threads were so off the wall it was a daily laugh. No one griped about threads getting off topic and there wasn't all this sensitivity that causes threads to get pulled. If you disagreed on one thread, you could be friends on another...

I know we have some "personalties" that are ready to step up and try to fill those shoes, but maybe they don't want to get blasted. I am begging the members of GC to lighten up! Just like REAL life, not everyone is going to like you or what you stand for. Accept it and get over it. Quite turning every thread into an argument! Find humor in our idiosyncrasies and to not take everything so seriously, even if we do get our peacock feathers ruffled from time to time.

It is hard to put inflections and double intendors well when typing!:(

To some a joke in the posters mind is funny, HAHA, but, it doesnt come out that way!:o

It is for this reason that many Good People have quit posting or have cut back because of the inanity of the attacks that happen anytime someone asks a question or is a new poster and does not know that there are a kazillion post on GC!

If someone asks a question, answer if with some form of decorum, not flaming attacks, try using better language, do not belittle someone or you will get belittle in return!:D

I have a bad damn cold, my one employee has the flu, it is 25 and iciy roads, so I feel like hell, and I am not going to take it anymore!

Hey Carol!!!!!!!:)
